The one about the 4 year old hurting her baby brother makes sense in a dark way. If her parent is willing to beat her instead of being an actual caring parent, then yeah she's going to think it's acceptable to do it as well. Perpetuating a cycle like that is pretty sad. Also, don't leave kids home alone even for a quick errand, that should be obvious.

Exactly, like the kid thinks that that's what you do to children, that that's what discipline looks like, she's not old enough to know better than what her parents have taught her.
Plus leaving two children that young home alone is a recipe for disaster.

That one with the person getting locked outside overnight in the snow in nothing but a shirt and pants over a spilled cup of milk that wasn't even their fault is one of the saddest things I've ever seen, along with the one about the 4 year old attacking her baby brother "because she felt like it".

My mom when I started highschool would call me numerous times worried. I would often time either be watching cartoons. Or my phone died and I would forget to charge it once at home. She would call a few times on my phone then if I didn't pick up the phone she'd call the landline phone. This started 7 years ago! I would pick up the landline phone and she'd be on the other side at work in despair. Like: "Oh my God Nikita! Is everything okay with you?! Why are you not answering me?!" and then I'd tell her something like: "Mom I'm fine! I was at home watching tv and my phone died. You don't need to call me!"
I'm 21 and I sometimes receive messages from her during the day asking how I'm doing. Expecially now that I had some gastritis related issues. And when I respond short texts she thinks I don't care. And if I'm not quick enough she'd flood the chat. Until I remind her I'm not always on my phone nor do I care to read every single message I receive.

My aunt and uncle went on vacation so I got to stay in their huge house alone and watch their two dogs. It was a breeze, I was very familiar with these dogs since I practically grew up around my cousins. One night, I had a major panic attack and tricked myself into thinking someone was outside and trying to break into the house. It was to the point I heard voices, it messed me up. I had never felt something like that before. I stayed in the same position the entire night until the sun came up, just staring at the only window that I didn't close the blinds for.
Obviously, I was tired af. So I took a nap for a while after taking care of the dogs, they took a nap too. Things were good. I wake up to knocking on the door, so I look out the little window on the side and it's my dad. I open it and he says "I'm very disappointed in you" and starts going on this screaming, yelling rant about how he's been trying to get a hold of me. I try explaining to him the situation and why I had missed his calls but my dad is a stubborn shit who doesn't know how to calm himself down. He doesn't listen to anything you have to say. So he's screaming at me and I'm sitting here just crying, because it's been a rough 2 days. Keep in mind, I had kept in touch with them the entire damn week. It had been fine. I was literally 19 almost 20 when this happened. Like how tf are you gonna yell and scream at your adult daughter like that? Wtf are they gonna do when I eventually move out. It's very clear neither of them trust me (my mom was in on this too, over the phone) to take care of myself even though I've been doing it for years.
I looked at my phone and there were over 30 messages of him sending "ANSWER YOUR PHONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
I can't wait to get out of this hellhole.

That's exactly why I'm no contact with my mom. Telling a teenager at 11pm to pack her things because "You're not my daughter anymore" and "I'm going to drop of you off at an orphanage" just for some random shit that's not even meaningful like not being hungry for dinner.
She did that since I was little. Tormenting me until I'd cry and beg her not to leave me and then she'd be all like "Aww mommy is here, no worries, you're a little b*tch but you can stay I guess"
    And then I'd be grounded.
I remember when I was in elementary school and I cut off a bit of my dogs hair in summer (you could not even see it) and she locked me in my room for an entire week, only allowing me to come out if I needed to use the bathroom, I only got once a day food and it was just a slice of dry bread and a glass of water. She made me write a single sentence the entire day 100 times, the entire week about what I was punished for.

Reminds me of the time my sister (23) was having a mental breakdown, crying in the bathroom in the dark. Mom wanted to know why, but my sister didn't know exactly why. Probably because she was going through the emotions and couldn't think straight. Mom got more aggressive in asking, but my sister just kept on crying her eyes out, and wanted to be alone. Mom then says "Quit your crying or I'll throw a water bottle at you, then you'll have somthing to cry about."
I have no idea where that came from, but I might have punched my mother if she did do that. I say might becuase my mother's mother abandoned the family to start like 3 different family's. So she never really had a supportive mother to begin with, and she probably doesn't now how to handle this kind of situation. But threatening to hurt your own daughter, when her anxiety and depression has taken over her, to the point where she dosent even know why, is like putting water on a grease fire. I've never been one to talk back, but I would've thrown hands man, no matter the punishment.

They stole from me and it was a common "joke" that I was not as "important" as my siblings. I am now in my mid 40s and we are still patching things up but a huge part of that was that the moment I turned 18 I stopped putting up with their stuff, I stopped attending any and all family events and was very vocal about why, especially in front of friends and family and would basically tell them I was simply reacting to how I had been raised. Years of mistrust and bad blood, but now we tolerate each other and are slowly moving forward. To anyone going through stuff like this, just remember, you are your own person and regardless of how someone treats you you are wonderful and strong and can make it through this.

Ugh, yes. Since around 16 or so, I’ve become more vocal about my mistreatment in my family. For the last couple of years, I’ve also begun opening up to people about the abuse and how I’m treated. After watching our interactions, people are now telling me they agree that what my family is doing isn’t right and I shouldn’t put up with it. It’s such a huge relief to be told I’m not the bad guy here and that I really have been wronged. For years I’ve been gaslighted by my family into believing I deserved the abuse and treatment and that I was overreacting and making shit up for no reason. Even my siblings tell me I have some memory problem and that my mother isn’t an abusive pos. But now that I’m letting my friends into my family secret, they’re telling me they thought it was wrong too. I recently found out my friend who’s father has narcissism and a family friend both believe my mother suffers from the disorder. I’ve speculated for years about it, but I always convinced myself I was just trying to find an excuse to hate my mom or find a reason for her actions. But no, thankfully, I’m not the only one, and the other two came to the conclusion completely independently of me. That really helped my suspicions about my own reasoning behind my belief. Unfortunately, I can never bring this up to any of my family, because they’d simply tell me off, then go tell my mother. And my mother would beat me for even speculating that she may suffer from narcissism. Hopefully one day she gets the help she needs, because even if it isn’t narcissism, something is deeply broken inside her, and the people around her suffer for it. I can only imagine the suffering she must be going through on the inside too.

He understands when I really have too much pressure on me, he speaks to me. He even knows that some of my interests aren’t traditional to my family, an example being that I like reading the symbolism of tarot cards, not reading tarot cards, reading the symbolism. Even though my mom says they’re demonic, saying something like, “Don’t act like you know more than me” when I’m the one reading the fucking things and she can’t separate the US and Philippines.

My room was in the open basement, no walls separating my room from the laundry room. I had to tell my mom to knock before coming down for years, as I entered highschool I just started walking around the room nude. She stopped searching my room around the same time because I started using home alone style traps in my drawers. The joy I felt when the mouse trap snapped on her hand while I was in the kitchen. Her biggest mistake was relying on me for so much of the home upkeep she literally couldn't live without me. All cleaning, 70% of the cooking, the laundry, even bills as soon as I got a job. I was able to threaten her with leaving because she needed me far more than I needed her. When I finally moved in with my grandpa as his caregiver I almost never go back because the house looks like a dumpster. She's too lazy to clean herself and too lazy to make my little brothers do it. She still can't get by without my constant help. That is karma at its finest. She lost all power over me and can't control my brothers because I did more parenting than she did and now they barely listen to her.

Like, you know what kind of HORRIFYING shit usually goes down at those places? I’d DARE them to send me. With all the schools scouting that kid, they prolly have full rides lined up. If that were what I was looking at ahead of me, they’d be lucky if I didn’t burn down the “church” upon arrival. That’s fucked.

Okay, the one where the parent goes through her 14 year old kids phone frustrated me, like yes you pay for it but if you don't trust your kid enough then don't let them have a phone or put parental controls on it. You don't need the child's password to their social media accounts either, just follow your kids account and when your worried about what their watching ask them to show it to you and if they refuse to let you look then it's time to take the phone and look through it. I know from experience that always checking the kids phone makes them feel like they can't tell the parent anything without the parent freaking out about it just to figure out if it's appropriate or not. I can also touch on the "active parenting" too, active parenting is being there for the kid at all times and trusting them, having talks about what to stay away from and what's safe. P.s. any person who got to the end of this long rant, thanks for actually paying attention. And if your a parent, please take all this as an option when giving your kid(s) a phone.
