If you look closely you'll see that is a nozzle style vacuum sealer not a channel style. Most vacuum sealers are of the channel style. In a nozzle style sealer a small flat tube is inserted into the bag which is where the vacuum is drawn from so it will pretty much seal any type of bags with the exception being retort type bags. Channel style sealers require textured bag to draw a vacuum through the channel. Nozzle style sealers can use any bag smooth or textured. It is only limited by the temperature required or the size of the bag.
Thank you very much. I can't wait to get it. I am sick of having to buy a new foodsaver every 12 to 18 months. I do love the idea of the Snorkel being able to do mylar bags!
ma'am, some time ago I started watching your videos and in one you mentioned gentleman who gave you a recipe for biscuits,I tried that recipe and it was perfect!!!! just like momma used to make but......somehow I lost it, and can not find the video now was wondering if you could either tell me the recipe or his name so I can have it again as I love a good biscuit. And you my dear lady are a wealth of information I so enjoy your videos you have shown me many many different and new things about prepping, and not just long term SHTF but short term disasters as well.I grew up on a farm and it is so nice to know how to raise my own food,my fiance never knew what farm fresh was like till she came here lol. Anyway keep up the great videos and information as there are millions who need, it take care and thank you so much.
Sir, I noticed your comment, and I know where you can find the link, as I had just watched another of her videos, where it was mentioned, and the link is in the description box below the video. The name of the video is "about storing wheat and flour". I hope you see this and it helps you if you haven't already found it before now :)
A regular Foodsaver won't vacuum seal mylar. They require the textured bags. The unit she is using is a "snorkel" style sealer that creates its own channel for the air to be sucked out. You can definitely *seal* the mylar bags with a Foodsaver, but it won't suck the air out.
I just ordered this machine.. please tell me you still love this machine and whether it has had any problems with it. Also when I watched the video at Sorbent Systems it said it would seal some mylar. Are there certain mylars you buy for them to work and if you do which ones. I could find no info on which ones! Thanks!
I just bought a food saver thinking it would do the job….the heat strip just doesn’t get hot enough to seal the silver Mylar bags but do great with the clear bags that com with it
Is it less expensive to purchase the 5 gallon bags and cut down as opposed to purchasing smaller qt or gallon bags, or are you doing this to make your own custom size bags that are unavailable? Also, that looks like a SINBO Vacuum Sealer DZ-280/### model, that is what I'm looking to purchase. The one I'm looking at on Amazon does not come with the plastic bags. What type clear plastic bags do you use? Where do you get them? Thanks
Hello and thank you for the video. Would your purchase this machine again if you had to? I'm looking for a better vacuum sealer than my basic model Food Saver. Thank you.
Yes i did buy this machine again after i wore out the first one. I must've used it thousands of times before it quit working. I also have a Foodsaver and i definitely would not buy that one again. The Foodsaver bags are too darned expensive.
@@imstillworkin Thank you for your response. I have a basic model Food Saver, and it just does not vacuum properly for me (even with the straw and all that other nonsense). Have you used this machine with 7 ml mylar bags or just 5 ml? Again, thanks for the video and the reply :) It's very helpful.
I've only used it with whatever thickness i said in the video. Sorry, it's been a long time and i don't remember. There is a button on this machine so you can set the length of sealing time for different thicknesses of bags.
thanks... may i ask how much it was... the website does not give a price and i would rather not fill out their form just for a price quote.... thank you...
Is there any chance you could do another video doing the mylar showing us the settings etc that you do to get it to remove the air from mylar.. I really don't want to waste a mylar bag practicing.. Thanks and help is appreciated!
I finally found the bags you were talking about. You're right it is a tad difficult getting around the site. I could not fine how you would get a discount on the vacuum machine though. Do they just take the $15 off or you have to mention it?
I use my foodsaver to reseal all kinds of bags...cereal, frozen veggie, pretty much anything that comes in a plastic or mylar bag! I live alone, so it takes me a looooong time to go thru a box of cereal. I cut the corner off the bag the first time, reseal, cut the other corner the next time, reseal...and so on. The last serving comes out just as fresh as the first. Same thing with chips and frozen foods. When in doubt....try it!
I'm not sure of the model number but it's the one that is sold on Sorbent System's website. I believe there is a link to it in the description box. They only sell one like mine.
oh please send me that link ! i am new to this and my husband has bought me 2 sealers ! they had to go back won't work for mylar at all ! i am going nuts ! oh love the video's ! thank you !
Past 2 years now i've been saving all my family size Dorito's bags hoping i can do this. I have the same vacuum machine you have but have'nt tryed it yet so i hope the piles of empty bags here are worth it. I found a store that sells 40# bags of rice for next to nothing but i still to find the oxygen absorbers.
I would love to have recipe on the biscuts also but did not see link under video. I am new to trying to work you tube still confusing to me where things are. please help
hey workin' girl!! Excellent information! I see you have a lot of other videos...i am definitely subscribing!! I've just received my ox/ab and mylar bags, and have been very hesitant to use them... I also have some kind of bag sealer i've never used, & it never occurred to me to use them together! I'm so clueless i don't know if this is even a dumb question, but do you not need to put in an oxygen absorber when you seal your bags this way? Thanks in advance!
WoW...that is BRILLIANT recycling!! i would so do that too, but i rarely buy things in that type of bag...or so i think....maybe i will have other types of bags i could use?? .... hmmm .... does anybody know it the opaque white bags that come in a cereal box can be sealed? (excuse my ignorance)
hey sis, I just bought a food saver and went crazy sealing everything! my hubby was cracking up! squished my blueberries but that bag sealed :) I need MORE bags, lol. They are not cheap and I need them, anyway I am going to make apple pie filling and your strawberry glaze. God Bless
My Foodsaver 4840(?) won't pull the air out of mylar bags. Only works with bags that have the textured surface inside. And I thought I bought a top-of-the-line machine. Somewhat disapppointed.
The problem with the channel style vacuum sealer and that the mylar is too smooth. It needs the texture to extract air from the bag. You can hack it by putting a little strip of the regular, textured bag in the mouth of the mylar bag.
Mylar is much more durable and this is an important quality because some food you vacuum pack can have sharp edges that may puncture a standard clear bag when they're packed or transported. Also, thin layer of aluminium (it's in the middle of the three layers and doesn't touch the contents) prevents gasses and liquids from leaching into the bag over time, giving the contents a longer shelf-life. That's why industrial food companies use them and why preppers like them. I like them for hiking as they hold up better after being jostled for 4-5 days and I can put whatever I like in them. It's tricky to seal them in the at-home vacuum sealer though, thus the video.
I bought the bags from the same place I bought the vacuum sealer, from Sorbent Systems. A link to their website is in the description box. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, shape or form.

Just use a straw.
missing you guys so much!!! Blessings 💗
Thanks for the demo. Does it have the hose to seal the mason jars?

Thank you sir, and you are very welcome! I'm anxious to try them myself :)

Thank you. I was afraid I couldn’t use my Food Saver to vacuum seal my mylar bags. Great video. Thanks again.

Thank you very much for sharing so much. I used my food saver sparingly because of the cost of the bags. I can't wait to order this one.

Uh, which sealer model are you using in this video because it seems to be working great sealing off Mylar which is hard to vacuum seal with a sealer.

What kind of vacuum sealer is this? It seems take less space in the kitchen.
Cool thanks for sharing. Cant wait to get me a vac sealer. Its on my list along with a dehydrator.

Hmmm.... I wonder if my machine will seal mylar too. I've never tried it.
my food saver will not seal mylar bags. Is your machine an older one
+John Grab Mine either. A clothes iron will though!
need to make a space with something. vids on youtube for it

@snaps81625 I can't tell for sure but it looks like a SnorkelVak vs 280
If I put powder in it will the vacuum sealer suck the powder out?
Thank you
No pueden explicar bien como usar los botones yo tengo una igua y no se como usarla
Y pone la mano y no se aprecia bien
It doesn't seal 7 Ml bags
Sorry Ma'am, you could seal Mylar bag, but not this way
Sorry Sir, but I absolutely can seal bags this way. You saw me do it, you moron.
