    I think it’s so easy to view Mel blanc as a great voice actor, which he is a legend, but also as a comedic actor he was phenomenal.

      It's mostly forgotten now, but in January 1961, Blanc was in a near fatal car accident, and was in a coma for weeks. The doctors didn't think he was going to make it. I''ll turn the story over to the pros now:
      As a result of what happened, 15,000 letters and cards flooded Blanc’s mailbox as he fought for his life. People from all walks of life and all ages wanted to wish Bugs Bunny well and prayed for his recovery. Well, those prayers worked. While Blanc was in critical condition and was in a coma for 21 days responding to zero treatment, his doctor, Dr. Louis Conway, had an interesting idea that he thought might help.
      “How are you feeling today, Bugs Bunny?” Dr. Conway asked Blanc. This earned him an immediate response. “Eh, just fine, doc. How’re you?” It was an absolute miracle. Without a doubt, Blanc was dying, and out of nowhere, he slips out of his coma in true Bugs Bunny fashion. “Mel was dying, and it seemed as though Bugs Bunny was trying to save his life,” Dr. Conway recalls years later.
      After that moment, Blanc was on the road to recovery and he did fully recover. He wouldn’t actually pass away until 1989 from complications of both emphysema and advanced coronary artery disease. Blanc will always be that Looney Legend we know and love.

At the time I was fortunate to meet a gentleman who had the last profitable great Books door to door operation, and he had the most amazing door I've ever seen. He could talk his way into almost any house. I really learned a great deal from him. I eventually went on to selling home improvements, which is 'Tin Man' is one of my very favorite movies in the world.

      @@KairuHakubi I can still remember the first time I gave an in house sales pitch. It was really a harrowing experience first time round. Training just doesn't prepare one properly, but after giving a few pitches it starts to get much better fairly quickly. I still remember one woman who protested as I started into pitch by saying 'can't I just buy the books?" I did say yes, but after a while one learns that's not always the best way to go, but I sale stuck anyways.

    • @thomasjamison2050
      @thomasjamison2050 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KairuHakubi The bane of direct (in home) sales is the sale cancellation. If you don't give the pitch, except in rare cases, the odds that the prospect will cancel the sale within the three day rescission period are very much higher. The dumbest mistake is when the salesperson says 'and if you decide you don't want it you can cancel the sale within three days and get your money back with no questions." I knew one noobie who made thirteen sales that way in a week and every one of them canceled. When you get a rapid buyer, it's best to summarize the pitch points as you fill out the paperwork. When you get to the rescission paperwork, you want to get them to commit to the fact that they have absolutely no intention of using it. There are some other things like this it is best to do. We would call that 'buttoning up." It is extremely important that it be done right. As Zig Ziglar would say 'selling is a transference of feeling." You have to take steps to insure that that feeling remains alive after you leave the house. People who will buy no matter what are actually very rare, and the higher the ticket item, the rarer they become. People normally willing to change their mind about a relatively expensive purchase are dead common.

    Annie Fargé is instantly likeable and compelling, a real sparkler. I never heard of her before, or this show, so thanks for bringing me here through Mel Blanc. I would have wanted to see him going and going with fewer cut-aways, and maybe it's remarkable that they let the routine play out as much as they did. Reminds me of that moment on Taxi when Reverend Jim takes a driving test and asks the meaning of Yield, and the gang respond Slow Down, and so he more slowly asks the question again, and they Slow Down again, and the cycle is allowed to go on, over and over, in painfull glee. But that was 20 years of post-Beatle post Andy Kaufman later.But as to Annie Fargé , I wish she did more TV or film work; in a more modern TV development they might have found more inventiveness and a different actor for the husband and a long long life. In comparison it shows the strength of Desi Arnez.

    This aired 76 days before Mel Blanc's front end collision car accident on Sunset Boulevard that very nearly killed him. He was in a coma for two weeks and did not respond at all when spoken to until his doctor tried "How are you feeling today, Bugs Bunny?" After a slight pause, Blanc answered, in a weak voice, "Eh ... just fine, Doc. How are you?" The doctor then asked Tweety if he was there, too. "I tawt I taw a puddy tat", was the reply. It took him about a full year to recover enough to begin to make appearances on television again -- although he did do voicework by studios bringing recording equipment to the hospital and to his home throughout 1961. Largely because of his accident, the city of Los Angeles restructured the roadway at what was then already known as "Dead Man's Curve."
