This video single-handedly turned me from an axe-spamming ne’er-do-well into a Simon main who actually knows what he’s doing. I wish more Belmont players online would watch this video.
I started playing with Simon just yesterday and one of my very first opponents online thought I was a spammer, and started spamming his fireballs with Mario. And I basically told him, "Oh no dude, don't worry, I'm not here to camp, let's fight". He got the message and we had a great set.
The fact that the speedrunning strat of classic castlevania, of jumping and hitting at the end is implemented into smash as a way to remain fast is yet another depiction of the dedication to stay true to the characters.
Just want to add a few other notes from my own experience with the Belmonts. Holy Water into Dash attack does work a bit better on opponents who got caught a bit higher up in the flame than forward smash, as it will usually miss at that height. It's also a slightly better bread and butter combo for 2v2 fights. Forward smash can be angled downward or a slight bit upward if charged, making the edge guarding a little better. Finally, Boomerang Cross (Side + B) and Dash attack can guard against some projectiles.
Hey I don’t know if you knew this but 7:40 up special can have much more knock back with the final hit if you mash the special during the attack I’ve been able to get a kill as early as 90 if I start of with a d-air
Tip Some characters can actually break simons axe with nair and up air(like yoshi) allowing for simon to be punished. If anyone wants me to go into character persifics, just ask
You are very welcome! Ill say that my guides aren't made with as much time and care as Izaw, but I hope they can come out faster and help more people as a tradeoff. Additionally Izaw does an amazing job at showing of everything from basic to advanced while im focusing on helping out newer players get into characters so you'll find my videos dont go as indepth. Glad to hear you are enjoying them though and Ill keep up on them :D.
Another difference; because Richter's down B isn't fire, it will kill Olimar's red pikmin. Simon's down B won't kill the red pikmin because it's immune to fire.
As a richter main, it is important to space properly and know which aerials to use a right time. If you space perfectly youll be like a wall. Dont forget to aim them too. For juggles, use nairs more than uairs unless youre aligned properly and spaced. THROW THE CROSS WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE IT MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE. if you bounce a holy water off shield, you may be able to catch it Space your axes to snuff approaches, edgeguard and if you can, break shield.
Please don't say 'Axe' when you're talking about the Cross. It takes me out of the flow of the video because I get briefly confused about whether you're actually talking about the Axe or not. for example at 5:00
If you’re directly below stage and someone is throwing a F-smash or a charged projectile you can use Up-air to catch the ledge and wait for a better time to get back on stage, this works for grabbing ledge with forward and back air but not many people know that Up air works as well. Another little tip is that down air spikes people and is useful for killing people that are too low to go for a wide recovery and are headed for the ledge. The only downside is that they have to be at about 40 percent to kill and if it miss, you die.
Thanks for making this video! I really enjoy playing Richter but I'm garbage at him and I know that I'm missing something so this should really help out!
The Belmonts have a TON of problems I find. Something I've noticed is nearly all that claim how strong of a character they are don't actually main them lol. Funny enough, I find the Belmonts to have more in common with a character like little mac. They got high dmg, but are very limited in options. They have absolutely abysmal aerial and ground movement, lack nearly any practicle combos, have an easily reversible down B, and imo worst of all, get *very* easily gimped off the stages with only one real method of recovery that *also* happens to be ur *only* viable aerial attack option, making you even more predictable and limited. I guarantee as this game grows in age, these characters are going to go lower and lower on the list, sadly lol.
Pit can really mess up Simon. Arrows can catch his double jump and kill him instantly. Falling nair can edge guard his tether very easily too. He also has orbitals to reflect projectiles and upper arm dash (side b) to super armor through some of his ranges
change your c stick to tilt stick in control settings. Its what pretty much everyone does to do tilt attacks. And then smash attack by pressing direction + A at the same time.
I'm confused what smash stick has to do with extending your cross range. I can hold my movement stick (left) a direction and press be and it throws shorter, but if I quickly flick my movement stick, it flies out further.
Yo Konami, Nintendo just made your next Castlevania game so maybe you should give the fans what they want. Expecially since your Netflix series was a smash hit and you have a lot of new fans that don't have an easy way to play your best games (symphony and rondo).
Depends on who you are fighting olamar is very slightly weaker to richtor anybody who is weak to fire Simon is better but richtor gets +1 cause he look better 😂
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I killed quite a few people with Richter's fthrow. So... I don't know what "officially qualifies" as a kill throw, but it's happened to me quite a bit at not so high percentages. :O
@@JoeKSmashBros I genuinely don't recall the exact circumstances so don't quote me on that. :D Great videos, btw. Haven't been big into Smash since Melee and your and ZeRo's videos are great videos do not get completely left behind. :)
@@rosewarrior706 gotcha. is there like... a clear definition in the scene on what makes a kill throw? i guess technically all/most of them can kill at some point but is there like a percentage threshhold or sth?
@@DHellfridge It depends a bit on circumstances like stage size and the opponent's weight, but for the most part a good kill throw will get you a k.o. reliably at around 120ish%, give or take. It's a rough estimate, but that seems to be the general threshold.
I already made a WYSM for them. I want those as intro guides for people new to smash looking for a fun character and these videos used to teach people how to actually play those characters (at least from a beginner level).
Unlike those who main Little Mac and in some form need to put themselves in harm’s way to punish, it takes a very complex form of Aspergers to main one of these characters, as all you need to use are Down B, side B, and neutral B. The axe that kills after two good hits, the great value PK fire, and cross that always seems to mess up combos when it returns are sure to land you in elite smash in no time flat.
Really? Because that seems like a recipe for failure. Richter/Simon are all about mastering the whip. Just like in Castlevania, your subweapons are helpful but if you can't handle the whip you ain't going too far. Besides, reflecting projectiles is a thing. Trust me on this. For Richter/Simon, ftilt and fair are the key. Also, Aspergers? Really?

To be fair, double belmonts online dont need to know what they doing

Rhythm Rice A little late, but you just flick the movement really quickly in one direction and hold it.

You can actually catch the holy water projectile, I accidentally figured this out in online mode when I was getting ledgeguarded by it.
That is true, I think I edited this part out by accident, thanks!
Also, if your opponent shields the bottle and you do not catch it yourself, it will backfire on you.
Another difference; because Richter's down B isn't fire, it will kill Olimar's red pikmin. Simon's down B won't kill the red pikmin because it's immune to fire.

I’m co-maiming Simon and I rarely use projectiles unless I know they’re going to help me. His whip attacks are hella good.
Doesnt simon fire not kill red pikmin but Richter's does?
Yes
Who plays olimar
Btw, you can also aim his fsmash, which is great for getting rid of opponents who like to hang onto the ledge.
Please don't say 'Axe' when you're talking about the Cross. It takes me out of the flow of the video because I get briefly confused about whether you're actually talking about the Axe or not. for example at 5:00

Play Richter against Olimar.
