- We tied a special fishing rig to test out its effectiveness while beach fishing. Its a long line fishing rig with 6 long shank hooks and we plan to use our swell pro drone to drop this long line fishing rig out into the ocean to see what we catch. This seems a bit excessive but if it catches us a ton of fish, it will all be worth it. Lets see how this idea plays out!

40 years ago in Monterey CA I used 10 long shanked hooks #1 and tied red or yellow yarn on them and used to catch squid as bait for fishing that day. VERY effective since I followed the squid professional boats in my 12 foot aluminum boat & saved the big ones for bigger fish on the bottom
I did some kayak fishing from the beach in central California, Pismo beach. It was a different set of fish out there. I bought a sit on top 14 foot ocean kayak, Neckey Dolphin, used for 700 dollars. Safety first, all gear, and paid attention which way the wind is blowing. You don’t want to be blown out from shore! Your surf is more tame. The Pacific is colder and rougher where I fished. A farmer John wet suit was always worn, pfd was always on as well. But with practice and safety, it is a totally different experience, lots of fun memories.
When you drone out at a long distance, it is harder to set the hook as the line is less responsive. Seems you were using J hooks, which needed some solid hook set. Maybe you can try circle hooks with heavy sinker, such that when fish bit and swam away, the sinker will help the circle to set it. Then you "just" need to reel in.
Yes. I noticed the line stretch the further it was out when in my wet suit following my line from a cast from shore. It’s an exaggeration, but it is more like a rubber band the further out the line goes.
Definitely use circle hooks when the line is so long and unresponsive. With circle hooks, the fish hook themselves, and stay hooked.

Brendan, Your drone chicken rig would work great if you first FIND a school of fish (using a drone or binoculars) then drop it right on them. So definitely potential there. Good to see you consistently trying new things.
I've done the same - like using a small electric battery powered reel for deep slow pitch jig fishing. At first people looked at me funny but at least I wasn't getting sharked as often. Now Johnny Jigs sells then and has videos of him doing the same thing 4 years later Lol!

I'm more of a single fish fisherman😊 but the ones I usually catch are fine specimens just a little wild😊 because if you've ever caught a small mouth in a small Creek Channel It's a Fight for Your Life😊

Try the same thing again using circle hooks vs J hooks. Your hook up and catch rate should increase a lot. A bit smaller cut of bait will help too.

You guys near coastal waters should try powerline fishing if you don't have a drone. It's common here in Chicago for coho and chinook salmon. Just google powerline fishing and you'll see how to set one up. You can shoot out a line with up to 50 hooks around 200-300 yards.

What if you used circle hooks on the long line. You would not need to set the hook, maybe you catch more. Only problem I see is that's a short shank, so some line could be cut.

i really admire your fishing technique. how i wish i have rods and reels like that. hope you have "old" one to spare.
Skipper the problem with your rig is its to long. There is to much string ND the if you have a small nibble on the first hook you may not even be seeing the rest of the hooks get bites. What u would suggest is putting a float on each end just enough to keep it off the bottom so you can see the bites
In Romania, Europe, it's illegal to have more than 2 hooks/rod. And maximum 4 rods.

In Philippines, fishermen used kitang for fishing. Long line with many hooks and baits.

Zero cheating if the regulations say it’s ok. When the water temps are colder downsize your hooks and you’ll have more luck. You’ll be surprised even the bigger fish will eat an easy meal

If you are catching bait fish, ... It's all good... Other than that it's called long lining…. a commercial fishing rig… and yes, it's cheating…!
In some places, .. Big fines…. I think treble hooks are cheating as well, .…it only takes 1 hook to catch a fish….
I've replaced all treble hooks with inline or assist hooks…

TL;DW : More advertising of their products. They caught a few undersize fish, some spanish mackerel to be used for bait. nothing too exceptional. Dad as always had a stellar performance.
