  • #keybored Don't Buy A Keychron... Get This Instead
    Whenever someone asks me to recommend a good, available keyboard at a reasonable price, I usually tell them to get a Keychron. However, I think I have finally found the perfect "Pre-Built" that's actually a better option... The Luminkey Series. Check out the Luminkey 65!

    Was wondering if we were going to get a new Scott video this week and was quite excited when I saw the title! Just got my barebones this week, typing on it now!!! As I had some GMK WoB and WS Heavy tactiles that I love I just got the barebones. You get everything, case, stabs etc... with it you just don't get the caps or switches. They even sent the plate foam separate just in case you didn't want to use it. I love my Neo65, been my main since Oct. While I have a Neo80 on order, for over a month now, I got my Luminkey65 in like 3 days from China to AR US. The sound with all the foam and the components above is very poppy and thocky at the same time, definitely one of the best sounding boards I have and the look is very classic. I also like the placement of the FN key, it's silly but I've always used the right CTRL.
    PC plate as you note doesn't support screw in and I didn't know it came with them to I already had some Durock V2 lubed and ready when it got here so I'm just saving the ones they sent (which were already put together). However the PCB has a lot of options for those who need them.
    Fantastic video as always, I'm with you on the recommendations. While it doesn't have the flex of many of the Q series, the look and sound is definitely superior and not everyone wants a lot of bounce anyway! I have a feeling this is my new #1 for a while...

In fact I have all 3 luminkey. happy with all of the, except I didnt like the baby racoons on the 75 so I changed them out with Gateron BOX INK Black v2 and it is now devine.

    • @MarbsMusic
      @MarbsMusic 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have both, just finished my Luminkey65 (did barebones). The Neo offers more option in regards to looks, colors weights etc... however if you like options and weights the Luminkey is an easier build and sounds a little better to me. I've been switching back and forth since I got it and it's very close. I have WS Heavy Tactiles in both and GMK caps and the Luminkey is a little poppier... which is a little odd to me because it's got the PC plate and I have the FR4 in my Neo. Both sound great and are fantastic keyboard, can't go wrong with either so just go with looks and plate options / sound IMHO.

    Edit: It does support VIA!
    Doesn't look like it has QMK/VIA. I like my keyboards thocky but QMK/VIA is far too useful, especially on a 65-key. I'd get the Q2 over this for a prebuilt, and if I'd ever consider a barebones for this, I'd still get a barebones Q2 instead.

    Give me a solder or hotswap pcb with some more layout options for r5 and I'd cop, even if it was an additional purchase. I do think they should have some sort of customization option for the colour on the piece of metal that surrounds the light. I feel like it works with the silver but not the other colours.

  • @ToyKeeper
    @ToyKeeper 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Things I care about in a keyboard: Physical layout, hotswap, repairability, standard open-source firmware, per-key RGB to use as indicators, decent stabs, a hard reset / bootloader button, ideally also a knob or touchpad or joystick or other extra inputs. Bonus if it comes with DSA/XDA/AFSA/MT3 caps and top-bump style tactile switches like Durock T1, Boba U4, Akko Purple, or even Pandas.
    Things I don't care about: Sound, flex PCBs, gaskets, accessories, blue/brown/linear style switches.
    Things I try to avoid: Metal cases, weights, branding, screens, pouch batteries, manufacturers who don't cooperate with upstream firmware folks, OEM/Cherry caps, anything bigger than 75% or smaller than 65%.

    I actually just got my first and last keychron 3 days ago. The keyboard is wonderful, however it came in DOA due to the usbc not being plugged in. I’m new to the keyboard community and frankly didn’t consider that because I assumed the usbc would be soldered in (gaskets make that impossible, duh). I went through their entire help page steps and nothing worked. I spent 2 hours on the process. Anyway once I figured out the reason I was happy. Then I thought they should update their help page so future costumers who have an unplugged cable can save time. I went out of my way to be nice and let them know of my experience and how they can prevent their future costumers from having a similar experience. No apology or thank you given. No common courtesy is just 🤮. Never buying any keychron product again and I’m a massive nerd who also has other nerdy friends so they missed out on at least a grand of potential revenue.

    That is a nice looking 65% keyboard but it’s definitely not worth $100 more than the all aluminum Yunzii AL 71 which can be picked up now on Amazon for only $72. btw, Im not affiliated with yunzii in any way other than i purchased an AL 71 and enjoy the board.

  • @impointr
    @impointr 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That spacebar sound is super generic. I don't know if you're forcing yourself to say something positive about it, but this just isn't it lol. In its stock configuration with all foams it just sounds like any other foam-loaded keyboards.
    If you remove all of them though... That's when this keyboard actually shines and it's a real shame that you didn't even showcase a more customised build.

    Nice board but I think most people would rather avoid a 65%. In my experience, most people I know want a 75% at minimum and if you want something cheap but good quality, the rainy75 is huge bang for your buck, being $100 fully built and having way more colour options, depending on where you get it. By summer they're supposed to be in stock in vendors like Amazon too. This board seems more enthusiast leaning than casual.
