Big Country's Mark Brzezicki was a huge fan of Phil Collins' drumming, so much so that he waited outside a Brand X concert and did get to meet Phil - who encouraged him and wished him well. This was before Big Country made it. The two double drum on a Midge Ure live track.

She was a good performer. But she wrote none of her own songs and played no instruments. Not sure how she became the queen of rock. Chrisy Hynde wrote songs and played electric guitar. Or what about Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart. They were known as the female Led Zep. Or how about Janis Joplin? Tina Turner should not be the queen of rock.

Because music is as good as dead now. There is no creativity, just trend following. And while I accept that music of all eras had trends especially the 80s and synth music, however it never felt like Depeche mode and Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet and OMD were all the same, each one had their own unique identity and different styles. However now days it’s ALL the same, Mediocre rapper vs mediocre rapper, song about a tough upbringing Vs song about a tough upbringing. It all comes down to the fact that in the before the 2000’s, to make music you had to actually make music, have a band and an idea and a plan. Now days you can just press some buttons on an app and you have an entire song. Now when one person does this it may sound great, but an entire industry of upcoming “talent” all making music with their iPhone, well that leads to the hollow pool of music we have today. It’s not all bad though. I think there will be a music renaissance soon, and we might actually see some new talent appear, something which isn’t just another talentless hack talking to a beat and calling it a “song”.
