This tree is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. The balance between the deadwood and the live tree as well as the movement are just unbeleivable. I totally agree that the price tag on this is on point.

20 or so years ago a common juniper bush was planted outside my kitchen window and it has had a slow steady growth. I have had an interest in bonsi but I have never attempted to create a tree. As I looked at this great video I thought about what it would look like if this thick juniper that is about 4 inches in diameter but only about 2 foot or less tall. I will take a picture and send it to you. I probably should wait until deep winter before digging it up in order to not kill it.
I'd honestly recommend spending a few years practicing with less special trees first, to build up some skills before going all in on something so old. Also, if you re-pot it you have to wait at least a year before putting too much stress on it, the stress of re-potting alone, if it spent it's whole life in the ground, is pretty shocking to the plant for a good long while. You may also consider potting it in a very large pot at first, and then year by year reducing the pot a little bit until it is the ideal size. Some people just go straight for it, but a tree that is over 20 years old is special. I'd go and buy a dozen or so trees of the same species to practice on.
These people commenting doesnt know how many generations/years pass, in order to create such piece. The price is kinda bargain if you think about the time and effort of people before him to create such art.
no, its actually not worth the price. if you ever research bonsai... you can realize that the price is actually paid by NON-bonsai enthusiasts who don't actually know anything about bonsai. i think people in the youtube-verse need to do more research... outside of youtube.... go to your local bonsai society.
The only reason it does not cost more is because it isn't demanding in resources and can be done concurrently with other projects. Still, the sheer amount of effort that is put into each one of those is something to behold.
Although it is 90% of the time that music is distracting for the video (even I make that mistake) this was unbearable. I know I can mute audio but, man, use something softer. Anyhow the bonsai trees are phenomenal. Your work is also fantastic on them.

I messed up, I got into Bonsai at 13, and spent money I had been saving for over a year to buy my first tree and supplies to care for it. The tree caught root rot and I felt such a level of failure that I gave up the hobby. Here I am 17 years later giving it another go. This time I accept that I may lose some trees, so this month I am planting 500 trees with some in the ground, and some in pots (incase they need to come inside for winter). I'm using a combination of seeds and cuttings of around 20 species. I have been spending entire days searching and hunting for trees that I want, and asking the owners if I can take around a dozen small cuttings. I want to have roughly 1000 in my greenhouse by next spring. Looking forward to taking dormant cuttings and seeds from some Japanese Maples once they are wintered. The temptation to just buy a tree is pretty strong, but I must be patient.
try looking for some 10, 20, 50 year old stressed trees growing on a roadside bank or some hard place where you can carefully rescue it and transform it into a bonsai. Another option is getting old plants that people want to discard from their garden, cutting them back or breaking the top off and turning them into a bonsai. This $200K tree started off as a prostrate conifer, probably discarded or unwanted in someone's garden but then rescued to begin life as a bonsai.
i really appreciate the effort that goes into something like this. much more impressive than a nice car or a house. this shit takes several peoples dedications over several generations. truly amazing
Another difference is it only takes a short while to manufacture a Lamborghini, but a tree like this takes years and years and years of work and constant care.
@@imjustaguy4340 Not only sunlight (which would be provided next to a window) but also the change of temperature throughout the seasons. Unless you want to get your house down to 0°C during winter so that you can keep a Juniper alive inside, you'll have to choose a different plant.

If you don't respect don't expect, it's simple... professional Bonsai scissors run at 25000 USD and the tree alone takes 24 hour care from a trained master.. It's an art not known to most if only a select few
Most bonsai take decades to grow which is usually why it’s worth so much. Bonsai also takes a lot of patience. You don’t see the results of an idea until a few years later
Amazing. I don't know anyone in the same era and age as Byorn that has this level of skill when it comes to refinement etc. I think fujikowa school is definitely understated and deserve much more credit. I put them in the same league as Kimura school

I also started in bonsai when I was 12, I got out of it for a few years, and then got back into it, I've read many books on it, I'm very self educated, India was actually the first country and people to "grow minature trees in containers" the Dr.'s would have medicinal "minature trees" in containers, or small pots, so they could get the leaves to make a sirum, or some kind of medicinal elixir wherever they traveled. Curently I have about 41 trees that I've created, bonsai is ever changing, and the older the tree is, the more interesting it looks. It's a very addictive hobby, but it soothes the gremlin within me! Maintanance I am getting pretty well, but in my collection, I have 2 small Shimpaku Junipers, and would LUV to get a close up view of how these branches were wired. So is the white part of the tree trunk dead wood? if so how does it manage to live with it attached/ how does it not break up the dead wood with the growth?
The Art of Bonsai predates Japan, going back to China. It's an ART FORM, like paintings, sculptures or any other artistic expression. Considering that many of these high end Trees are several hundred years old, maintained and trained all that time, cost is going to be there.

Even though it's 3 years.. don't place them in your room. it kills them, those need to be outside in seasons otherwise they will die.

I believe you can grow it indoors in a controlled environment just like cannabis.
