My visit to Berry Gordy’s Detroit Home The Homes of the Legendary Motown Stars | Ultimate Detroit Motown Tour | Marvin Gaye, Stevie, & More
• The Homes of the Legen...
Forest Lawn Memorial Park - Hollywood Hills is one of the six Forest Lawn cemeteries in Southern California. It is located at 6300 Forest Lawn Drive in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The first Forest Lawn, in Glendale, was founded in 1906 by businessmen who, 6 years later, hired Dr. Hubert Eaton, a firm believer in a joyous life after death. He believed that most cemeteries were "unsightly stone yards", and pledged to create one that would reflect his optimistic beliefs and be "as different, as unlike other cemeteries as sunshine is to darkness, as eternal life is unlike death." He stated "I shall try to build at Forest Lawn a great park, devoid of misshapen monuments and other customary signs of Earthly death, but filled with towering trees, sweeping lawns, splashing fountains, singing birds, beautiful statuary, cheerful flowers, noble memorial architecture with interiors full of light and color, and redolent of the world's best history and romances."
Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills is the second oldest of the Forest Lawn cemetery properties.
By 1946, Forest Lawn at Glendale had bought some 490 acres (200 ha) of land which had been known as the Lasky Ranch, the Providencia Ranch, which had a house and outbuildings, including stables and corrals, and part of the Hudkins Ranch, also known as the Old Lasky Ranch. The Lasky Ranch had been used as a film location since the early 1910s, and films made there included All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) and several of Charlie Chaplin's early comedies, including Sunnyside (1919). The 1,000-acre (400 ha) Old Lasky Ranch had also been used for filming many movies, and Warner Brothers had leased it in 1929. D. W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation (1915) had been largely filmed on the Providencia Ranch.
In 1950, after a four-year permit process, Hubert Eaton began construction of a new cemetery on his land at Hollywood Hills. A curving and irregular road, laid out by 1951 among the rolling green hills, gave a rural effect in the heart of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The first buildings, a mortuary, an office, a garage, and a maintenance warehouse, were also built in 1951, and the new cemetery was opened for burials on March 4, 1952.
Part of a mausoleum called the Court of Remembrance was constructed in 1957.
Motown is an American record label owned by the Universal Music Group. It was founded by Berry Gordy Jr. as Tamla Records on January 12, 1959, and incorporated as Motown Record Corporation on April 14, 1960. Its name, a portmanteau of motor and town, has become a nickname for Detroit, where the label was originally headquartered.
Berry Gordy III (born November 28, 1929), known professionally as Berry Gordy Jr.,is an American retired record executive, record producer, songwriter, film producer and television producer. He is best known as the founder of the Motown record label and its subsidiaries, which was the highest-earning African-American business for decades. - บันเทิง
Robert Gordy is actually interred in that very same gated outdoor private family "room" as Anna Gordy Gaye but on the opposite facing wall (meaning to the right, or south, side). Other Motown-related notables @ FLHH (and all located in the Courts of Remembrance section) include: Melvin Franklin (founding member and original bass singer w/ the group "The Temptations"); Frankie Gaye (recording artist and younger brother of Marvin); and Norman Whitfield (composer/arranger/producer/songwriter).
Years ago I sometimes would view Red Skelton's TV show and found him rather humorous. (I believe that my Auntie Gloria appeared on his program on an occasion.)
Craig you are the best! Miss you man can’t wait to see you again!
@@SCOTTONTAPE Ditto...we certainly will connect again and real soon, I'm sure. Always gr8 vlogs of yours, too.
@@SCOTTONTAPEShit, I'm late to the show here, brother, but some interesting info I got for ya on Motown most prob don't know? Hopefully you & your friend here can see this???🙄 But y'all should check out Joey Diaz Chong interview!!! Chong was a contracted guitar player for Motown before he became a comedian mastermind, I know cause I saw him with Cheech & also in a small club without Cheech & believe it or not, he was better solo! Anyway, in that interview he tells his whole story & blows everyone's mind when he recounts Micheal Jackson's very first gig ever with Jackson 5 WAS OPENING FOR CHONG'S BAND!!!🤯
🤣🤣🤣
Hope somebody sees this?😅
From Nashville, may you & yours have a Happy & Blessed New Year!🙏❤️
See ya!
✌️🌎❤️
Hi Craig! I really enjoy when you hang out with Scott!
@@anneiwanowski9653 Much obliged for that. Scott is definitely one of the very few "bests" among the very few "greats ". And I'm so pleased and grateful in getting the opportunity to share any knowledge I have along w/ him. After all, what's the use of learning something if it can't be passed on (no pun intended) among others yet perhaps may end-up rather lying dormant instead and therefore no real good of use to anyone?
The singer Teena Marie, loved Berry Gordy, like a father. She was on Motown records for a while, before she up and left for another record company. She and Rick James recorded together. He wasnt interested at first. He was doing his own album , but it might have been Berry Gordy who wanted to put them together. Teena Maries story is very interesting, with the motown addition, that you would like😊
Marvin Gaye was and always has been and still is my favorite singer
Since I probably will never run into you out in the world I’ll say it to you here, “Thanks for what you do. I really enjoy your channel!”
Born and raised in Detroit and then suburbs of Detroit, Motown was our GEM!!! I’ve Been gone from Mich for decades tho.

@Scott on Tape Hi Scott, I love your videos! I live in Harlem in NYC and Berry Gordy and Diana Ross daughter Rhonda lives right around the corner from me. She lives in the building the "Carter " that was in the New Jack City movie.

Oh great video! Rest in peace to Anna 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 that property is amazing! Wow 😮
Good Evening Scott and Happy New Year to you and your Family 👋🏾🙋🏽🎉 I love the intro music 🎶💗
Mjs first death certificate did have the Hollywood hills address on it but I’m sure he was kept in the mortuary area before being taken to Glendale . The mjs estate court documents revealed his family was paying forest lawn weekly checks to hold his body in refrigerated holding vault but I’m sure that was at Glendale because from what I’ve heard the great mausoleum has a temporary holding vault some levels below the memorial terrace section I know Douglas Fairbanks was held within the vault in the great mausoleum while his tomb was being built at Hollywood forever.
Good on you for helping the elderly couple ❤
If by Ridyard Kipling is my favourite poem, my grandad wrote it in my brothers 18th birthday card.

Love The Motown Music 🎶 🎵 😊
MJs casket had to have massive security if they did hold it in vault area of Gordy family ...wow what a neat secret.
My poor Daddy died 1/9/o4 and he was to be buried up north about an hour away from Mackinac bridge...a huge snowstorm hit Michigan very bad. It was horrible. The funeral home got his body to the church and graveyard was behind church , for his Catholic funeral but then they held his body/ casket until last week of April . In a fridge somewhere. Horrible because i was 5 mths pregnant when he passed unexpectedly and the week the frozen ground could be dug up for his actual burial was the exact week I was hospitalized w complications of my pregnancy . So I was there for his church service but not his burial ..broke me terribly.
Really interesting. Thank you Scott. Would you consider covering Gilda Radner?
