I think the reason why people love the Pee Wee Herman character so much is because he does what we all wish we could do. Just enjoy life. Pee Wee lives in the moment, goes cool places, meets interesting people, makes funny comments, and has a great time just being alive. He reminds us what life is all about.

Real talk, the Pee-Wee Mindset of "it's okay to be different" and just know that many others are different and thats okay is what led me in my 32 years of life to be so much myself and just do whatever shows up. Being outwardly genuine to who you are makes others around you comfortable and willing to be kind back to you. I'm a fuckin goofball of a goth/punk thing. I make many heads turn simply by existing but have that met with a genuine "whats goin on" take on others REALLY lets you explore the world and open your eyes to the world around you.

@@scottblackson5606 I was a kid in the 50s and like most middle-class kids in the 50s, I grew up watching Howdy Doody, Micky Mouse Club, and my favorite, Capt Kangaroo. Shout out to the Captain. the brilliant Bob Keeshan. The great thing about those kids shows was they knew their audience. Sure, the shows were geared to kids, but they didn't treat their audience as stupid and Baby Boomer kids definitely weren't stupid. The stupid didn't happen until later in life when they grew up and became Democrats. Paul was able to recreate that perfectly through Pee Wee. God bless him may he rest in eternal peace..

This is so awsome, thank you. I don't think I would have been the same person if I hadn't watched Pee Wee as a young child. I named everything, a jacket 'jackie' a chair 'cherry' (a straight copy) but even though my hateful older siblings made me ashamed of my love for Pee Wee seeing Paul Reubens' renaissance gladdened me and I owned the fact I was one of Pee Wee's 'kids.' Paul Reubens may not have had biological children but children like me who watched him automatically became his. A conflicted person but an awesome person. I really mourn him.

That is really awesome! I lived in and grew up in LA at that time and although I never got to meet him, I remember hanging around the Sunset strip one time I imagine it must've been 1981 (!) And seeing a little poster at the Roxy with an advertisement for a Pee-wee Herman show with that iconic lettering and an animated version of Pee-wee on the poster. I had no idea what it was until years later (and yes, of course 2020 hindsight, I wish I had gone to the show).
On another side note, I'd say you might want to edit your comment and change the word "sad" to "set" (which is what I'm guessing you were trying to say?).

I had just moved into my new apartment and had started a new job.

It was the perfect choice. They were huge Pee Wee fans, and for weeks, we'd quote lines from the movie
I now have the DVD in my permanent collection so I can watch it whenever I need a pick-me-up and escape from reality. The opening sequence of PW waking up, all through the breakfast sequence until he's out the door, is pure unadulterated joy and perfection...

I was an art student when I discovered Pee Wees Play House and loved it immediately for the design and STYLE! So whimsical and fun, the characters engaged me and allowed me to embrace my lost childhood. I had to grow up too fast and Pee Wee allowed me to heal that innocent time by embracing his silly antics. I have good memories watching Pee Wee’s Playhouse reruns on Adult Swim. Thanks so much for covering Paul Reubens!

Oh man that's a memory. I remember being kind of confused why a children's show was on ADULT Swim as a preteen, then as an adult I understood why.

@@profoundwanderer1441 It was not cp. It was vintage erotica, and at first they didn’t find anything that pertained to cp, but for some reason, some top dog in the ever so corrupt criminal justice system wanted to charge Paul. I think the main reason Paul pled guilty was due to his dad being very ill, and Paul wanted to take care of him. He didn’t want to go through with the whole trial and not be able to be in Florida to take care of his dad.

@@walpoleandworcester Yes, I remember being up one late summer night to find something to watch on TV, and then I stumbled on Pee-wee’s Playhouse. I fell immediately in love with the show and with Pee-wee. I was 12 at the time. I even watched Paul’s interview Late Night with Conan O’Brien when it came on. It was the one where he shared that story about how he acquired his sister’s tea set (She didn’t want it.) and had a tea party with his dad.

He invoked the same kind of genuine love from people, that Gilda Radner invoked. The character Peewee Herman was so creative and hilarious, with just enough childlike innocence, that melts your heart!

What a beautiful and honorable telling of the Paul Reubens story. Thank you for not dwelling on the scandal that, thankfully, didn’t end up sinking his career. ❤

Paul Ruebens was brilliant!! I remember his show in 1981 on cable I was 11 years old then.I was 15 when Pee Wee's Big Adventure was released in 1985 and his CBS Saturday Morning show was released the following year(1986) I watched it!!! There was even a Pee Wee Herman dance complete with a video.COOL!! I loved him. The moments when Paul got emotional are touching. He impacted my generation and many others with this lovable character 💛💛💛 It was sad hearing about his death almost a year ago this month.

I was a youngster when I saw the HBO capture his show at a Club. I was BLOWN AWAY that it was all adults loving this Zaney dude. then you experience the endless variety and follow your dream attitude..... then he flew at the end, and you (I Felt) felt like you came out on the good side of someones experience. Yeah, Pee Wee Rubens was Legit Creation of something wonderful. cool to see some many great comments.

I watched the movie in 1985 when I was 11 and I was a big fan of the Saturday morning kids' show. He was an awesome character. As a child I always thought Pee Wee was a man portraying a child and he gave some many kids permission to be kids and just have fun. You will be missed Pee Wee.
