First viewing of this feed. She reminds me of the most beautiful Amish woman I met in Sugercreek Ohio. She stopped me in my tracks and all I could do stare. I was like a deer in the headlights. It's good to see a good man with a good wife enjoying life and feeding the world.

Sometimes I allow myself to watch too many of the freaks on the internet and I become completely disenfranchised with my fellow Americans. And then you two kids pop up in my "recommended" feed and watching you for just 5 minutes gets me feeling right with the world again.
You guys totally remind me of my wife and I and how we worked together back when we were in our late 30's - early 40's.
Thank you so very much for sharing your daily activity and reminding us all how real Americans in "flyover country" live their lives!

Laura and Grant, you make a great team! Back in my agriculture days where flood ditch irrigation was the norm, your rubber boots were known as "irrigating boots"--as they were worn when "setting" water in the irrigation ditches and furrows. We also had small shovels called, yep, "irrigating shovels" for removing or placing dirt to start or stop irrigation water from going down a ditch or furrow. I still have a pair of irrigating boots and an irrigating shovel, even though I haven't been in ditch irrigation country for years. And, yes, Grant, farm girls make great wives--I know, I'm married to one.

    • @robertreznik9330

I understand, I married a farm girl and our son married a city girl. an irrigated farm needs attention 7 days a week. People in the city think summers are for vacations.

Flood ditch irrigation was used in the arid area of Pakistan, not far from the Afghanistan border, where I spent a year as a 7 year old 65 years ago. I was fascinated by the process and I can remember our gardener using a special shovel to open and close drainage paths leading to small plots. He didn't have boots :-) I wonder where the technique was invented.

    • @robertreznik9330
      @robertreznik9330 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@roadie3124 Flood irrigation was developed in may places. There were millions of acres in this area in the 1940's. From Lubbock Texas to Denver Colorado . This is the Western High Plains. Most plots are 160 acres. The hand shovel we used was the California irrigation shovel. There were 1/2 mile long furrow made where crops would be planted. The ditches from well to furrows were made by a V ditcher pulled by a row crop tractor.

Good to see this! I was born in Southern Idaho and raised my entire life on a large ranch/farm… as we raised crops as well. I was in FFA all four years and 4H. Was driving our old Ford pickup around the canals and ditches as a real young kid. I fed the livestock with teams of horses in winter (sleigh) and wagon the rest of the year. Milked cows and sheered sheep, even castrated the lambs the old fashioned way (a true country boy raised around sheep know what that is…and can’t be afraid of the taste of blood 😐) Biggest part of my life was centered around irrigation…wheel lines, center pivots, solid set hand lines and some hook and latch hand lines both 3” and 4” as well as ball and socket. Cut corrugates and set siphon tubes. Mode of travel was a Honda 125 3-wheeler. Drove swathers and harrowbeds. Planted everything from taters to seed alfalfa. Tractors from a small MF 135 , and old Oliver 3 wheeled tractor w/ pipe trailer up to the Big Green Machines (Steiger), Gleaner combines. Joined the military for 21 years and never returned to the farm. Miss the quietness of it all, which I hated the hell out of as a kid. Moving up to 25 lines a day did get me in excellent shape for football though. Great channel and keep up the work! 🤙🤙🤙

The end gun was set up on one side of feild. And walked its self accress the field dragging the water hose behind it. Far as i know its still sitting out to farm.

4:30 am,wake up. Then do it again at 4:30 pm.
    I was 16 years old.
    I earned $70.00 a week in 1968. [$280.00 per month]
My dad worked as a foreman in a saw mill.
He made just over $ 320.00 a month.
So as a poor farm kid I made almost as much as my dad.
Now with those huge wheel lines it's much more automated than when I worked on farms.
Laura, you very much remind me of my sister.
She drove all the guys in my small farm town crazy ,with her short cut offs, and tough as hell personality.
She was a barrel racer for many years, lol.

Enjoy your videos - they take me back home! I grew up in the tri-state area where KS/CO/NE meet. My best friend from college still lives in Kearney. Left there in 1969 and have been a Floridian for about 50 years, but I still love traveling back to visit every 3 or 4 years. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

I know farming can be a very stressful way to make a living, but you two seem to just take things in stride and get things handled. Grant, you are a fortunate man to have a beauty and a cutie like Laura in your life. And Laura, you didn't do half bad yourself, girl. 👍🏼
