Nice analysis. Todibo's performance was refreshing @phew. Do the panel think the double training sessions, so early in the season, have been of benefit to any others in the squad ? Congratulations and thank you to Mikhail Antonio, on becoming the first West Ham player to achieve 100 PL goal contributions.( hat tip to Analytics United for being one of only two West Ham fan site's to bother mentioning it.) Most others claim he will never be a club legend while simultaneously celebrating, the next player to achieve this feat, club captain and English international Jarrod Bowen, as such, fickle much ? If playing wing backs becomes a theme then Ollie Scarles, deserves serious reconsideration.
You've actually made me feel positive about things! Amazing!! You can actually see what JLo is / may be trying to do, whereas for many of us we just can't see it. Loved this, thank you.
The substitution was held up 12 minutes because Brentford had us penned in and the ball was mostly in play, and when not, ref was not wanting to bring the subs on to enable Brentford the option to play the fast throw in, though vaguely they didn't. As soon was we finally got our own throw in in the Brentford half, the ref allowed the subs. But yeah, 12 minutes Ings was waiting to be allowed on.
Thoughts on trying Kudus at 9? At face value would go against a few of his obvious strengths, but I think he's versatile enough to be useful there. Hopefully no bridges burned with his hissy fit at half time
Its where I would play him , with Bowen on the right ( his assist stats are to good to play him anywhere else ) and Summerville on the left . Kudus has played there before , for club and country and has done well , think his obvious strengths would make him ideal in Loppy's system .
Kudus is fast, strong and direct all the things that made Antonio a success. I said way back when we signed him he should be replacing Antonio in the 9.
Agree with your analysis guys. Not a perfect performance. I see green shoots of growth, yes it was a boring game in some respects, but we looked organized (after the first minute) and the subs worked. A lot of negativity out there about Kudus going off, and Soler coming on. For me Soler has been a good signing and I enjoy seeing him on the pitch. I would prefer him over Paqueta right now - unpopular, but for me true. Would like to see Kudus on the right as a winger with Bowen inside him, Summerville on the left. Hoping JL stumbles upon this soon.
Positives: Kilman-Todibo AWB Mavropanos Soler Soucek Negatives: Paqueta Antonio Honestly, controversial, but, Kudus For Ipswich I really hope Fullkrug is ready, even just for 30 minutes. Antonio feels largely like a waste of time. I’d also consider dropping Paqueta for Soler. I feel he may be targeted to be dispossessed otherwise. Alvarez in for Rodrigues. Would genuinely really consider starting Mavropanos right back as well!
Sounds like coaching issues for me. Set the overall vision(philosophy) game plan and in-game tactics for both collectively & individually. Clear two-way communications and clear tactics
Soler is key to us getting momentum at the start of games by controlling the ball and being adept at counter pressing. I am sick of conceding the first goal.
something i've always been interested in is how one would quantify the value of a block vs a tackle... i appreciate that there are certain aspexts of Soucek's game which stand out, e.g his blocks, distance covered, (lack of) mistakes leading to a goal. However, can the value of these traits be ascertained and compared to the attributes normally considered valuable for a central midfielder... i.e dribbling passing tackling
At the level we play at, we will not have many 'complete' players. Listen in to other teams talking about their players, including the likes of Arsenal and Spurs, and you'll realise that only the very elite teams have the luxury of filling their teams with complete players.
Considering that he's been our most hardworking player over the last 4 or 5 years, it's pretty weird how there can be so much hate for Soucek from his own fanbase. Way too weird tbh.
@@jamesbong4928 because there was a 50+ game period where he should have been dropped and instead played every minute. He also has some of the worst passing and dribbling stats of any midfielder in the entire prem.
@@freakydeaky1435 the hate is based on the 50+ games where he didn't have his form and should've indeed been dropped, which of course didn't happen. What is true though, He gave enough evidence to be a useful benefit to our game if managed correctly. The game against Brentford was an example of that.
We don’t mark when we defend as we see with their goal 8players in our box against 4 attackers. .? Soucek finds space in their box. But runs around like a headless chicken when in defence. Which creates confusion as a defence.⚒⚒⚒
I think he's amazing, but why did we sign him, knowing he was the same position as Bowen? I'm glad we have him, but unless he plays Nr10/False9, he doesn't fit into the team. Paqueta needs to be benched to allow Kudus to play.
I'm surprised you're asking why we signed him because we had someone already in that position. Don't you think it's important to have competition for places? Also, when Bowen played in the middle, him and Kudus linked up well, so that have us not just competition in that right side, but also cover and versatility.
@@512Squared Bowen played well as the Striker but it's not his natural position. Both Bowen and Kudus are best on the right. Kudus was bought to replace Paqueta NOT to compete with Bowen. If it were to compete one of them would be benched each game!
@@carlstoakes6240 hmm, not to compete with Paqueta, or was you said, we'd only see one of them play. You seem to be confusing two things. Bowen playing in the middle was nothing to do with thinking that was his best position, though he actually did a great job with that, accepting that he couldn't do what a no9 normally does, which is have a physical duel with the centre backs. Rather, Bowen played a positional role when he was our no9. But that allowed him and Kudus to play at the same time for long parts of last season. Still the reason they are both on the pitch now is because Summerville hasn't yet made the left spot his own, so it makes sense to put Kudus there. But as the hosts pointed out, he just wasn't effective enough there against Brentford even though he was trying to carry the ball, it just wasn't leading to anything meaningful, because Brentford are very strong against dribblers.

Yeah, that was an incredible wait to get them on, and I think we had a least one chance to tonk it out but we tried to play and lost possession again.
