    At the top of the climb the group of tourists said “good job, clapping hands for them. How did they manage to ride up here?!” 😂😂 5:22

    Man, back then I did Mae Kampong and stopped there! Didn't want to torture myself further into Kiew Fin! Kudos to you and Game for this feat!

      Mate, kudos to ride up Mae Kampong, some crazy ramps up to 25%..! Kiew Fin is just stupid, if it's raining not even a pro could ride up there XD

    Great video mate ! A photo with the kiew Fin sign at the top is the reward followed by a coffee stop or two 😎👌

    Amazing that you could climb up and visit the view point. I gave up after I fell to the side. Need to go there again. Was a nice tour anyway.
    I think downhill is more tricky than uphill 😄
    03:33 oh my goodness. Memories coming up 🥺☺
    03:55 from there the hell started 😄

      Thanks! It is another level steep, so I would recommend a 1:1 ratio... there is a 500 meters straight at 30% average hitting 37% (according to Strava) sometimes! After you pass that there are some "rest" sections at 10% only 😂 and a few more 25% ramps but easier than those hellish 500 m.
      Downhill is actually ok, the rough concrete is very grippy, just need to stop 1 or 2 times to cool down rims (or disc rotors).

    Wow ! Yes looked tough in your short video but now seeing the descents too it really shows. Good Ride guys!

    I tried this with a loaded Trek Touring Bike on my way to Lampang.Silly me!Made it just to Mae Kampong,even pushing up this climb was nearly impossible.Luckily a park ranger gave me a lift on his pickup.Thumps up for you!👍

    • @CyclingChiangMai
      @CyclingChiangMai  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice one, Thanks!! What gear ratio did you use? Anyway, if you had a loaded bike on a 37% gradient you made it exponentially harder! We left our spare kits and pumps just to save a few hundred grams 😂

    I ride up that stretch once and never again. If you pass any cars there's a good chance both of you can't control your vehicles well enough and could collide. Especially scary on the way down.

      Absolutely agree, it's definitely a dangerous downhill, not recommended for riders without experience and great handling skills. Cheers!

    You should try Penang Hill... Also around 30% for 4.9km

      Thanks! Heard about it :) Last time in Malaysia I was riding fixed gear, managed to ride up to Gunung Raya in Langkawi but nothing to do in Penang with that setup haha, next time for sure!

    I've ridden to Mae Kampong on my Venge with 53/30 and 11-30 cassette, and it was quite tough. I didn't know about the next climb, but I don't know if I could drag my ass up there on my S-Works Venge.

    • @CyclingChiangMai
      @CyclingChiangMai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You mean 53/39, right? I don't think anyone can go up there with that gearing haha but very impressive to get to Mae Kampong with some ramps up to 25%! ✌🏻👌🏻

    How long is the distance for the steepest part of the climb? 2~3km? The hardest steepest climb I ever done is around 1km climb with 30~38% gradient using compact gearing 50/34t with 34t cassette

    • @CyclingChiangMai
      @CyclingChiangMai  ปีที่แล้ว

      The steepest is only 600 meters where never gets below 30% and peaks at 37% or so, but this section is within 2.5 km at 20% average so it's really harder than just those 600..! Also the surface is very very rugged and bumpy, making it really hard to get traction 😳

    • @tovinpoh
      @tovinpoh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CyclingChiangMai yes, any climbing with above 30% gradient is very difficult especially more than 35% gradient. For this really difficult climb of more than 35% you really need minimum 1:1 gear ratio to get through steep climbing distance of 1km or more for 700c road bike. I always pedaling in sitting position exerts high torque at stable low cadence pace , this require lot of mental patience rather than putting high cadence pace and high torque strength using off saddle pedaling method as the front wheel will lifted easily also the rear wheel will lost traction and slipped if using too much pedaling force especially in off saddle position.

      Vegan food is abundant here mate. Enjoy!
