  • Hey guys, in today's video I turned a super old log thats been sitting in my garage for a long time. Even before it got in my garage, I picked it up from a local firewood lady who said it's been there for years. I love turning pieces like this because you can really see an incredible transformation from a log you'd use for firewood, to a nice bowl you'd put on your dining room table. I think it came out great. Let me know what you guys/ gals think about it in the comments! If you enjoyed the video, hit that like and subscribe button! Thanks and have a great day!

I use a Forstner drill (larger than drive spur) to create flat spot plus it gives a good centre

I just got a small drill press so I’m definitely going to be doing that. I’ve tried putting the forstner bit in my drill but was never able to make a flat spot with it

@@Blackhillwoodwork I also found the drill bit needs more pressure than can be provided by a hand drill and so, I use a drill press. The hole just needs to be below the bark exposing the grain to ensure the spur grips.
      Good luck

I use that type of wood for the firepit. The cracks are just too dangerous.

You think so? I cut the log in half where it’s biggest crack was
