- Built in 1982 and designed by Leandro Locsin, the National Artist of the Philippines for Architecture, this 42-year-old mall was closed on April 1, 2024.
This a 3-part walking tour.
The first tour was on December 30, 2023.
The second was on March 27, 2024
and the third tour was on April 1, 2024

My fondest memory of greenbelt is not the actual mall but our way to get there. Walking from Park square, then to Quad (Glorieta), then to Landmark. Crossing that mini-bridge over the pond was our way of knowing we reached greenbelt 😂

Oh my. Like many commenting here...my youth. That Greenbelt 1 lobby outside National Bookstore was the "ultimate meeting place". From student life to work life, dining, movies to memorable dates, meeting future husband...& even filming in the driveway one evening as a lead talent😆..smiling at the owner Fernando Z who would line up at Jamaican Patties...(He always smiled back). Awww . ( I miss the smell of the Aviary's wood too). Thanks for this walk-through...have not been there in over a decade🥹farewell
My office is located in Perea st in 1983 up to 1994 and has fond memory of Greenbelt and all the restaurants nearby and long gone. Gasparilla, Larry's Bar, Schawzalder, Josephine, San Mig, etc. We used to park at open parking frinting PAL office that parking became parking building.
My husband and i will miss The Spa. Massage is always my daughter's gift to us and we had our massage at the couple room.. Thank you for the 32yrs of good memories Greenbelt 1 and 2 .

That is where me and my wife used to date during our college days.
I do wish, Ayala Malls Greenbelt will reconsider or will bring up again, it's #Aviary, wherein, before the advent of the Greenbelt Park Mall, the #Aviary within the greenery park, was once it's primary attraction by promenaders. Greenbelt was my (& my officemates too) a stress-reliever-of -sort while leisurely traversing the mall & park, after a hard day's work within the cofines of legazpi village concrete jungle (ca.80's~85's).
i have pics of myself, my sister and my grandmother walking around the aviary in what i believe was 1981 or '83. great memories. yes, my lola is still alive. she's going to be 100 this september!

We live in Dela Rosa St. in Makati and we used to visit the Green belt Aviary... Those were the days...
Outstanding video. Made me nostalgic. The very first place I went to when I arrived in the Philippines was Greenbelt 1. I’ll never forget that day. It was right across the street from my hotel and it was my first exposure to Filipinos in the Philippines.
OMG nag close na pala ang greenbelt? Every sunday I used to attend the mass there in the chapel...then I love the rows of restaurants there because it's very convenient.
Thank you for the video. Some of my fondest memories of Greenbelt 1 were my morning routine back in 1994. Grabbing a chocolate croissant and freshly squeezed orange juice from the French bakeshop close to Bergamo before walking across the street to my workplace. Then in the evening, window shopping with my BFF before traversing the park then finally at Landmark.
i will miss greenbelt 1 and 2 😢😢 the Spa in greenbelt 1 was my favourite pampering place for me.

I am based in the province but would travel to Manila not only for short personal visits but oftentimes for seminars/conferences or meetings at our head office in Makati. While in Makati, my colleagues and I would frequently go to Greenbelt 1 and its neighboring malls to eat, shop or just walk around to see the latest displays and products being offered as we usually stay at the nearby hotel, The Charter House. I will surely miss Greenbelt 1 and 2 as a dining, shopping or r&e destinations in Makati. 😢

Had So much memories in greenbelt, 41 years ago I used to work in Salcedo and legazpi streets and greenbelt was my favorite place to spend time after work, it’s really like a forest with big trees and green grasses behind the building, there were no yet greenbelt 2,3,4 and 5 that time, just Greenbelt. Sad, now all those beautiful looking forest in that areas were gone!

The new Ayala malls will be different and game changing in Makati. Based on their press release, they will have more walking avenues for shoppers, cherry blossom trees, open air. I guess Ayala wants to do more of "BGC" like shopping environment. BGC is now the "IN" place in Metro Manila.
Lots of fond memories made here. This is where i discovered japanese cuisine via sugi. This is where i attended a friend's wedding with my best friend who later became my girlfriend. I told her my feelings for her while sharing a plate of palabok at via mare hahaahaha. This is where my parents took us on sundays after church. This is also where i watched the original jurassic park where the lines occupied two storeys. Oh well like everything else, nothing last forever. Bye GB1, cant wait for your rebirth
I worked in one of the commercial rooms of Peninsula Hotel. One of The first Shakeys Outlet was in Greenbelt during the 90s. It was our favorite joint after office hour. Too bad, it is closed now.
The first Shakeys in the area is along Makati Ave, fronting the park.

I love watching movies at the Greenbelt theaters with my boyfriend, now my husband in the early’70’s. The theaters were really cold & clean. Oh well, times change. I don’t recall when the theaters closed! I pity the many restos & shops that will be close & their staffs😢!
I have so many happy memories of going there with my friends to shop or just to windowshop and to eat at our favorite restaurants, or to stroll through on our way to Landmark and Glorietta. So sad we can't do that anymore. Hope the park and the chapel, our most fave places in Greenbelt just to sit and talk for hours, will always be there. 🙏😢💔

My jacket I bought there, white satin still wearable , kept in my closet. A memory I could not forget, was never be erased.
It was memorable for me as a returning OFW to watch "Sunday Beauty Queen" 🎉💃 (2016) at Greenbelt 1 cinema after a lunch date of bacon cheeseburger 🍔🥤🍟 at Wendys.
So shocked greenbelt has been my tambayan before pandemic so enjoy this place since my daughter worked somewhere in makati..hope what will be rebuilt will be as spacious and with relaxing ambience🤗

I didn’t know that it already closed. I used to buy anime cds from 2rats here, iirc. We also hear mass in the open garden. Finally, my ex and I used to watch movies in the cinemas upstairs (GB1, I think)

Used to come to GB1 for church every Sunday, yes meron. It was a protestant church holding services every Sunday as theatre.
It was our favorite hang out. I was working in Ayala and after office hour we just wàlked from Pacific Bank to Greenbelt. We used to visit and hear mass at the chapel, the aviary and the pizzas and the very noisy bands But I loved it.
My favorite memory was watching Repertory Philippines shows at Onstage theater ❤

Thank you very much for the walking tour. Best memories of living in Makati was at Greenbelt1. The Jamaican patties was an original, circa 1994, and beside that was that Mediterranean (Greek) restaurant (forgot the name, sorry). Memorable too was the French cafe and their famous baguettes which was beside the Reyes barbeque. Of course, Via Mare was the top place for merienda and certainly Dulcinea for their Spanish meals. Bruno's barber shop was for recharging as and getting the latest scoop in politics & business & almost anything under the sun. I also remember GB1 rennovated twice. Compact as it was, Rustan's provided all your grocery needs. Oh yes Sugi and Pancake House were back-to-back neighbors at one time. GB1 was a happy place. And it will be again.
I remember working in fine dining restaurant in greenbelt near the park and chapel, the restaurant I remember were tia Maria cafe adriatico, beverly hills deli, Thai resto and a lot more, so many good memories from greenbelt

Back in my college days, I would buy Jamaican patties and Frosty from Wendy's before going to the cinema. My drink (iced tea) would always be a difficult choice between these two places, as well. I won't forget Italian is glorietta 2 because it was pandemic and my small family of three really wanted to go out.my kid is a pandemic baby. We ate there as if it was a momentous occasion
I have fondest memories of Greenbelt when i was still working in Makati Legaspi Village, from 1996 to 2012- Greenbelt 1 ang entrance ko going to Greenbelt 2 then derecho sa landmark at Glorietta at last ang SM. Andun kasi sa SM ung paradahan ng mga sakayan pauwi sa haus. From 2013 till now hindi na ako nakapunta ng Greenbelt coz im currently living Down Under. Ma-mimiss ko ang Greenbelt sobra. When I was younger there was Makati Commercial Center, then naging Ayala Center Makati then nag e-evolve siya into Glorietta and Greenbelt. Outdated na ang mga ito sa ngayun. So time for re-development.

While studying at AIM across it, Greenbelt 1 was our go-to as student boarders for food and for our needs.
I'm currently watching this video on a bigger screen to have a "POV or literal virtual" tour of both Greenbelt 1 and 2. Me and my mom rarely went there but when I did go there by myself, it is to have a mall "walk though" (bago naging uso ang video tour/s of malls)
In fact, I have never ever been on the top floors of both Greenbelt 1 and 2. So thank you for your video 🥲🥲🥲

This mall was my favorite back then. It is quiet, clean and not so crowded. My girlfriend and I used to go there a lot to eat & then to watch a movie. This is one of the places I love to remember when I was in the Philippines. Thanks for the memories.

1980 I work in greenbelt cinema.
Sometimes i still prefer an old mall which you used to visit before because it reminds us of so much memories however its current condition once renovated it also erased out said memories but the designer could have manipulated it in such a way that its old glory could still be felt.

Most probably! As far as I can remember, this is the first Cafe Med I saw in Manila.
I still remember that Glico on the upper floor but not sure if its situated in grnbelt 2. But yes, those upper floors are dead spaces now. Yet it is so sad for things to let go if memories are attached to it. Stores that used to frequent are now gone, like that Tower Records i used to go to in the 90s
