      Qwertworks bringing in a high end phone with high end price isn't going to do shit until they sort out their platform stability issues and solve the app problem. Hardware is not enough at this point.

      ***** no, it is not. That was not my point. My point is, that there is currently no Windows Phone that appeals to me and I would really like to have one again.
      The App problem also is something that will take a long time to solve, but they can only do this with endurance. With Windows 10 they really got a lot of people interested again (especially developers and companies) but in the end they messed it up with sub-par devices and buggy software. The only thing that will ever get Windows Phone out of it's niche would be a consistent strategy and not continuing on a half-assed zig-zag-course ...

      People who complain about the app gap on Windows mobile have never really used windows mobile for more than 20 seconds.
      I was a hardcore android user and I was able to switch to Windows mobile with no issues in regards to lack of apps. I either found an alternative app on the store or I use the mobile site. Not a big deal Imo...

    • @Applerumcake
      @Applerumcake 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The main issue regarding the apps is the lateness in upkeep. But you are correct, that most app functions can be found either through Edge or a third party. And some 3rd party apps are better than the original.

    • @halo3pownage
      @halo3pownage 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      while i wont deny that is an issue, i will say that it also shouldnt be considered as big of a con as phone reviewers make it out to be(i mean seriously telling people to not switch to this platform because instagram crashed, or there isnt an app that is on android)
      i feel reviewers tend to make mountains out of ant hills when it comes to little windows 10 bugs and it reminds me of when phone reviewers did the same thing to android when the iphone was basically the standard(android 2.0-android 4.2, after 4.4 android really started improving in terms of functionality) but the bugs windows mobile has are attributed to mainly 3rd party app devs and not so much the operating system unlike android back in the day

    • @AnandRao19
      @AnandRao19 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      luigi90210 lol Apps play the most important role in any OS ..People buy smartphones to use tons of apps everyday.No one wants to fiddle for alternatives apps when the original and much stable is already on the android/iOS.Windows is very lazy to bring out interest to developers to port apps on windows phone.

    Windows Phone gets a bad rep for lacking apps. But I've gotta tell ya, the most surprisingly thing from leaving my iPhone 6S/LG G5 combo for the Lumia 950XL (outside of finding that I'm in the quieter majority that got NONE of the stability issues MrMobile got) is just how many really good apps there are for the platform. While I keep about 300-ish on my phone, I've amassed about 700, and will cover a couple highlights.
    Spotify's always semeed braindead at distinguishing the tastes of someone who favors underground rap over mainstream (me liking Krizz Kaliko and Dizzy Wright absolutely does NOT translate to 'maybe I'll also like Young Thug' get that out of here Spotify), so I can't say I put too much time into it. Updates to Groove; however, have made it a powerhouse that's felt very satisfying to someone who thought he'd be lost without Google Play Music.
    Tubecast is, HANDS DOWN, the best mobile TH-cam client I've ever used. I immediately went to my G5 and 6S seeing if I could find this masterpiece within their ecosystem because it resolved all the annoyances I had with the official TH-cam and TH-cam Music clients while absorbing their features into one app.
    SlimSocial. It's easy to snatch at the low-hanging fruit of picking on the lazily ported-from-iOS Facebook app... but in all that great, warm circle-jerkin' it's easy to miss out on a lightweight, FAST, functional Facebook client that gets a lot right.
    KinoConsole has proven to be a really neat little implementation of playing steam games on a mobile device. I particularly like how seamlessly this works when paired with a Windows Phone that's got a Moga Pro or Moga Hero Pro on it.
    Client for Hangouts is an incredibly well-made client for Google Hangouts. Since I seem to be the only one in my immediate circle that can figure it out, I use Skype more often... but those lost without Google Hangouts should be more than satisfied with it.
    #Code really was a head turner for the continuum platform. Until this extremely impressive multi-language LIGHTWEIGHT ide brought multi-language features to the platform, people spoke as if continuum would only be good for the type of professional who's activities went no deeper than Office or sending out emails. Not to downplay the awesomeness of outputting those from a phone, but being able to dock my phone, create, sort and traverse a LinkedList array, COMPILE THE C++ RIGHT THERE and get console output without having to move to a desktop computer means that a software engineering prospect like myself could see some truly amazing things coming out of this (and with this hostile takeover of UWP within the W10 platform, it's no surprise that it's usable on W10 desktop too).
    Prism immediately made me stop caring that my bank app (US Bank) wasn't on Windows Mobile, and it made me uninstall AMEX. I'd previously been on the bank app complaint train merrily singing the same tune until this one app brought US Bank, my Synchrony Financial, PayPal, AMEX, Sweetwater and everything else the iPhone life convinced me I needed multiple apps for... under one roof. Yeah, this exists on iOS/Android too, but this is especially important on Windows Phone because it's a good way to resolve all the bank app complaints while also giving the ability to pay bills with one swipe. It won't scan a check, but since we aren't in the great depression my income's all direct deposit anyway. I can't believe I was using separate apps for all my banks on other phones.
    Photo Editor Photo | Polarr is another of those that I found I appreciated most because of the hostile takeover of the UWP platform. It's quite a bit more 'rich' than these other mobile photo editing suites I've found, and - again - very impressive to plug into the docking station and have your phone powering a desktop-style photo editor.
    That doesn't even break the mold of just how far UWP's coming.
    I've run a nicely successful campaign of showing off the impressive apps that most don't even know exist on Windows Phone on some communities... thinking about turning that into a TH-cam channel.

    • @DonnKnee
      @DonnKnee 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      BEASTthisIndustry That's great and all... But at this point, I don't think it's solely the apps that keep people away. The masses just aren't interested anymore. WM is a mess of an OS.

    • @ALionlikeMane
      @ALionlikeMane 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it's moreso that Microsoft forgot how to fight the uphill battle they were fighting. They used to care about exposure... and at least attempt understanding that carrier exclusivity is the quickest route to failure. Then it had a stronghold on 10% of the market, with all the confidence showing it wasn't gonna continue growing. Then they started making stupid decisions, and that 10% became less than 1%... and then at the point in which UWP is developing strongly to a point in which they could easily use that to turn the whole situation around... they retrench.
      I've fallen for this platform. And have no problem reaching over my iPhone 6S and myriad of higher-rating Android phones to use my 950XL... but I can't help feeling like MS is missing out on some stupifyingly obvious ways to turn this around even with the 'app gap' at the tip of every thorn in WM's grapevine.

Theres no doubt that mobile platform is gonna continue to grow and to be even more important. Its gonna cost them a lot more money to restart the project and to go from the beginning than to just keep working on the mobile OS.

    Even to this day I still absolutely love windows phone. It still manages to look so modern, functional, and elegant. The lack of apps is what promoted my relocation to the apple ecosystem Al those years ago. I am still on iOS, but man do I wish windows phone made it.

  • @AstralPhnx
    @AstralPhnx 8 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    As a windows 10 mobile user myself I can say I'm personally very happy with the platform. The app ecosystem is a hell of a lot better than it used to be and on my Lumia 650 the OS is smooth and stable. For the record the Lumia 650 sports a snapdragon 212 SoC. Yes a 212 and you know what? Windows 10 mobile freaking glides around on it. I owned a moto g 2014 before hand and the Lumia 650 I'm using despite having a less powerful SoC still blows my old moto g out of the water on performance.
    Windows 10 mobile is looked over a lot but it isn't a pile of garbage, not by a long shot

    • @ALionlikeMane
      @ALionlikeMane 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      As someone who got sick of general instability and fragmentation on droid, and the stoic, resistive to innovate nature of iPhone, I decided to give Windows Phone a shot and I've been shocked at just how many good apps I've found (and pleasantly surprised to find that not a single one of the bugs MrMobile got on his Lumia 950XL made it into mine).
      Though it's become colloquially Popular to talk about the lack of app count, I've had no problem amassing a library of 746 apps for everything from paying my bills to managing my home security, photo editing, video editing, social media, and every facet of my work life, college life and the times when I just wanna play a game... #Code even compiles my C right on my phone with console output, then transforms into a desktop IDE with the continuum dock since it's universal.

      Sir Kurtley I've heard that factory resetting the device can work wonders when it comes to performance issues. Indeed I did it to mine once I bought it (I had played about with it for a good half hour before I did it) and it was certainly noticeable

    App developers: We need more users to develop apps.
    WM Users: there are already great 3rd party apps that work better than the official ones.
    Average consumer: but it's not the official app and most of my brain dead social media apps are not available.
    It's really just a vicious cycle. I really wanted this OS to be in a comfortable 3rd. But I don't think anyone cares anymore. And why does this OS look like it was designed by 2 conflicting developers? lol. Great video as always! I think I'd watch this guy narrate paint drying.

      A friend of mine recently suggested to me that it's very cheap for Microsoft just to keep Windows Mobile maintained, and they do so since it would be foolish to abandon mobile completely. Also, we should keep an eye on Continuum over the next few years as that's evidently going to be a part of the company's long-term play.
      Also: it's just cool that Windows 10 can run on so many different form factors.

    Will you do a review for the HP Elite X3? I am a huge W10M fan, but I think it's still going to be a few major updates before people look at it properly. Even after the creative update it will still need more to get us to the point where the general population wants the phones, but notice the app gap and kind of wait there. Then I bet we will see more developers developing on them and then people.

    Thank for the review. Was hoping for a HP elite x3 review but this is OK for sure as far as the OS. I think WP is at its lowest point now. But it will not die. I think it on the slow rebound and path to be more mainstream again. Took them long enough. Some on the new features on WP 10 seem pretty damn amazing, if windows could only make them work like they can't seem to do. As you said "maybe tomorrow". I think theres is a lot in store for for the future for WP, I mean that gotta be the only reason its not going under. Company's must know that as well. And I really hope Microsoft gets its act together already. I'm still eyeing the HP elite x3. The thought of having a basic back up PC is really cool to me. I wish they could just make a high end surface phone that was as powerful as a mid range laptop, so you could even do some light gaming like hl1 or the original DOOM games from the 90s. And steam of cores even if you can't play 95 ℅ of the games on it. I'll just keep hoping. Thank for the review man, any word on the elite x3 review??

    I just bought this phone to be my backup when my lumia 950xl is needing repairs. I guess it really won't compare to the 950xl. Oh well. You seriously looked like wolverine when you were trying to get this phone to work for you with the audio/text problem. Thought you were going to slash the phone to bits lol. Well, thank you for this. Despite windows abandoning me with the mobile devices, I still love my windows mobile devices. This is coming from someone who started with android and had samsung galaxy phones. Hopefully, I won't regret my newest purchase. Hoping it is better than the S5 but slightly worse than the S8 (I own both).If not, I still have my 950xl (and if that fails there is always -shutter- iphone). Thanks again.

      It sure is. I am currently using it right now. It is not as good as my 950xl, but it is a good phone. The Facebook app sucks and so does their messenger app. I love this phone though. The speakers are nice and it is slimmer than my 950. Overall it is a 8 out of 10 for me and I would buy another. Thanks for checking up

    Switched over to windows phone about a year ago as a longtime iPhone user. There are definitely a lot more bugs but I've been using windows PCs for years so you can say i'm used to it, lol. Never had more than ~20 apps on my iPhone, so the app situation wasn't a big deal for me. As long as MS keeps pushing out updates and bug fixes, I'm more than happy to use my 950 for the foreseeable future!

    I just bought this in May 2020 in mint condition for 50 bucks on Swappa. I could never shake my fascination with Windows phone.The body is gorgeous, the speakers amazing and this is the best Amoled screen I have ever seen. Super sharp and colors punchy as hell. The downside? Pandora, Audible, Skype and the web browser are the only things I can consistently use outside of the office stuff. I love this phone, but, feel so bad that Windows phone never truly got to the promised land. Oh, and the former boom key has become a physical shutter button...progress!

    I still use Windows phone and have an iPhone 6s that I rarely use, I use My Windows Phone as my daily driver. Yes, I wish we had more apps, but whatever, these stupid developers is holding this platform up. Just put them on there, update them and you will be surprised on how many people switch to Windows. Just saying.

    • @Sketcher0204
      @Sketcher0204 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you're overestimating the amount of users that will switch. At this point, most people are locked into their Apple or Google ecosystems. It just simply isn't worth the cost of development and upkeep to create apps for this platform. Many developers have already tried, and a lot of them just end up removing their apps after a while due to lack of downloads. Developers won't put money towards an app unless they know they'll get a return on their investment. Microsoft, unfortunately, severely dropped the ball under Steve Ballmer. He was by far the worse thing to ever happen to Microsoft.

    • @Montpbm7
      @Montpbm7 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Sketcher0204
      @Sketcher0204 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Montpbm Crawford
      I'm not. Too many people have spent hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in either Google's or Apple's ecosystems. It's not financially viable for them to switch platforms at this point. Even if Windows Phone gets all the apps, people don't want to have to rebuy all the apps they already paid for. They don't want to rebuy accessories. They don't want to rebuy all their home automation products that only work with Google or Apple. They don't want to have to rebuy movies and tv shows they bought in Google Play or iTunes. Windows getting more apps won't change any of that.
