When I saw that chainsaw video - was I disappointing? I guess somewhat but I also saw the humor in it and why you uploaded it because I can see how you might feel with the countless people asking about chainsaw videos and all that timber you have to cut - don't some of these people understand that you have what is it by now 3 or 4 FEET of snow on the ground? And it's not like they pay to watch your videos - maybe you should subscribe to HUNDREDS of channels like I do in the hopes that maybe I might get a few hours of FREE entertainment

I was 1 of them that hated that chainsaw video yesterday but I agree with you. Never let the subscribers tell you what or what not to do this is yours & you can do whatever you please. When you start doing what only subscribers want then you aren't going to have fun anymore & eventually stop TH-cam altogether. You do a great job on your videos. It maybe wise to stop listening to all the naysayers.

I thought the video was relaxing and pretty funny. I have a friend who is a writer. I see some of the facebook messages she gets where her readers try to dictate how she should have written her latest book, or how they think the next one should go. It's crazy, but it seems to happen to a lot of creators, no matter what medium they use. You can't please everyone, so just be happy with what you do. Seems to be working well so far.

Hey Cody, I thought the Chainsaw Video yesterday was brilliant! Sometimes you just have to throw things back in the face of those that are pleonectic about the content that is provided free, from someone that has to spend hours each day to provide that content. Even if you could not see the humor in the video, you should at least appreciate the beauty of that opening shot and creativity that you displayed in your videography. It was your best work to date.

100% support everything you have said in this video. You have invited us into your daily life, and not only yours, but Jack's and Mrs. W's as well. Having TH-cam comments criticizing you for what you choose to upload regularly is not fair on the viewer's part. Love the way you face your video responses and show your mind. To me, it could be even more valuable than the videos themselves, as it gives me personal values and ideals to think about throughout the day. It has truly given me the opportunity to add to my own character (and do a great deal of learning too!). A big Thank You from Tennessee.

I got what you were doing yesterday in the Stihl video (and thought it was hilarious!). I appreciate you sharing your and your family's life with a bunch of strangers... and that by doing so doesn't obligate you to meet the expectations of anyone who is living their lives vicariously through your videos.
You have a unique talent of being a good story teller, but the moment you start trying to tell someone else's story that talent is gone.
    God bless you and yours.

So I’ve been going back through this build series, after recommending it on our new podcast this week. We talked about shops and what goes into making and setting them up. I was so happy to come across the notorious “Amazing Chainsaw” video commentary. I agree with you 100%, and it’s important for us as content creators to speak up for ourselves when necessary. I love the fact that we can make and do whatever interests us, and post it for our viewers to watch for FREE😉. The majority are super grateful, but that minority of malcontents can really feel like a thorn in our sides. We as humans are entitled to only one thing, the betterment of our own lives. Hopefully, that extends to our families, and those people we come in contact with throughout our daily life. I have to say that of all the channels, and content creators I watch, and of all the perspectives out there on being a good man and a role model to our children, you are right there at the top. Thanks for ALL the content. It’s not all my favorite, but it’s all been given freely, and to the best of your ability. You are a true treasure on TH-cam.

Hate to say it, but 2 x 12's (or 1 x 12's) have been 11.25" wide for as long as I can remember (over 30 years). It's never been 11 1/2". That there was a board that was 11 1/8," well that is starting to short change you on lumber width. That said, thanks for continuing to offer great videos.

    2x12 nominal = 1 1/2" x 11 1/4" 2x12 is primarily a floor joist. Sized at 11 1/4" for 3/4" subfloor decking giving you a 12" floor system. 1/8" shrinkage is normal in winter.

    • @blue03r6

naa HD and Lowes does not sell good lumber so you think that it's normal. when I get lumber from a local supplier called mcCabe's their lumber is a full 1.5 x 11.5 always. I might get one in the whole stack that is down 1/8. go to the other 2 stores you get it in 1/4 or 1/8 but never a full 1/2 like it should be. in the good ol days I could hang all of my floor joist hangers first and the boards would be flush on top. if I did that today my floors would be 1/2" too low on some. I paid a little more for the other lumber but it makes my jobs turn out better and my job easier. if I have a joist over a beam that's down that far I don't want to shim it up to match the others. when I build a deck I need the flooring flat because it's getting a sunroom built on it etc. so these junk lumber selling home stores can keep their undercut lumber.

That's how lumber standards work anything over 2x8 goes to the quarter inch therefore 2x10 is actually 1.5 x 11.25

I'm loyal to Ridgid. I am looking at a Makita thickness planer as its only a few dollars more and has less negative reviews as well as being a reputable brand. if I started uploading woodworking videos and people saw me using mostly Ridgid power tools they might be more prone to using Ridgid. he was probably indoctrinated into the Dewalt club as a younger dude and it's stuck with him. I know people that would call his bluff on the Milwaukee tape measure. it's what you have good impression with.

I have watched 5-6 videoes of yours since yesterday, and what I can see is nothing but a humble and kind man doing what he does best. It is really inspiring to watch your videoes and the projects you're carrying out. And I have plans to watch all of it. I love that you stand by your principles. A fellow youtuber of you (BFvsGF) also discussed this issue with fans manipulate the content. And one can find oneself in a place where you can't recognize the direction the progress is going on the channel because it might go against your principals. So it is good you put the foot down when you feel you don't want to do something on your channel. And thank you for putting such a time into making a quality content for us. Good job man. And happy holiday and greetings from a new follower from Norway ;)

Hey you keep doing what you're doing. I'm proud of you for all you've accomplished and have done for all of us. You keep your focus on Jesus and keep Him first before anything else and you'll be set. I, as do countless others enjoy everything you create and upload for us. You can't please everyone. No one can, but I'd say you do a pretty swell job my friend. You have taught me so much over the last few years. Due to a physical disability I have, I wasn't able to get out and do much as a kid because I was in surgery or therapy for the majority of my upbringing. Now that I have grown and matured I'm able to be more active and put what I've learned to use. So to that I say thank you ! because you have been such a father figure to me even through youtube. Like I said you can't please everyone, but don't forget that you and your family really make a huge impact on others that watch this channel. Keep up the great work! love ya !

You make videos as you go on YOUR life, not that of others, and its seeing how you handle the problems and projects is why we come here. As someone who works at Home Depot in the training I was taught anything 6 inches and under looses 1/2". 2x4=1.5x3.5 however anything 8 inches and over looses 3/4 of an inch
    2x8= 1.5x7.25.
Also when you buy 1 by material if it has squared edges it is done by another company and that's where you lose the extra making your 1x12 into a 3/4 x 11 1/8. They simply cut off the edges. Taking an 1/8 off. Love your videos

"You're not entitled to a video every single day"
*Creates video that was supposed to be funny*
*Lots of people don't think it was*
    "Well, obviously they're entitled"
I've gotta be honest WS, I don't think it's entitlement and I think your thinking here is way off. Your viewers expect quality content from you (and not that they're entitled to it) as a standard because that's what you normally put out and watching you drop the ball a bit here isn't enjoyable for anyone. Just because they expect quality doesn't mean you should get in their face and show them you're capable of putting out bad quality too. What point was really proven? You often talk about makers marks and being proud of what you put out, are you honestly proud of that video? That's the way I look at it. Also, do you know how many youtubers would kill to have your audience? So what if some % will feel entitled to a quality video and check every day. I'd call it excitement because your videos are so good and nothing bad. The last thing I want to hear as a viewer (without even having commented or liked/disliked the video) is negativity or needless preaching regardless of my situation at the time of viewing. You're taking your viewers for granted quite a bit and that video wasn't entertaining for a lot of them. My thoughts on the video itself are that the initial shot was great.. then.. silence & staring at a chain saw for a fight I wasn't involved in. When I watched it, my only other thought was... "That could have been such an awesome intro. What a waste". Much love, stoked for more videos -David

This is just what the problem is, though. You are trying to hold him hostage for your view. But the honest truth is your view is not worth anything from a business perspective. What you consider to be a waste of time might not agree with what I consider to be a waste of time. To me Pewdiepie is a total waste of time as is Casey Neistat. Obviously millions do not agree. To you yesterdays video was a waste of time. Many people disagree and got a big kick out of it. His subscription counter continues to climb, he has almost 1,000 more subscribers now than when he posted yesterdays video. Yesterdays video garnered how many views and comments? I wont look it up but it did pretty well. So maybe you didn't like it and maybe even took offense at it. So? Why do you feel entitled to hold him hostage over your own personal opinion? I know you don't feel ,like you are, and I do understand the point you are trying to make, I just hope you can see mine.

I didn't make comment yesterday and actually thought you were going to post that you had purchased a Husky and how amazing it was. Your video gave me a chuckle just the same. I think for those who were harsh on you that they really don't know that putting up a video is time consuming work. I know others who post videos and I thing the average is whatever time it takes to do filming + 2 plus hours of additional editing and such to actually get video up. You are always appreciated for sharing your knowledge and life with us.

Quick tip, for those who are planning to build anything really. Buy your lumber from a local sawyer or small sawmill business owner. Many have kilns, and they can provide you with custom sized wood so you don't have to resaw it. Plus your dollars get to stay in the local economy.

Mr W, i watched the last video and while it was not full of enjoyable content, i watched it and gave it a thumbs up. While other people may not have felt as appreciative after viewing it, we must remember; this is not your typical video. Brand continuity is often overlooked, forgotten and even (yes, as you stated) can come to the surface as a disappointed expectation. I appreciate that video as i do all of your videos, that is for the creative element that you have so graciously put into it; this is just my way of understanding the situation. Keep on being a phenomenal creator.

I want to send thanks to Wranglerstar for giving thoughts as to workbench heights. I am disabled to the point of having to use a walker most times. My present bench is about 40 inches in which I utilize a desk chair and roll around my shop. I find it most uncomfortable to stand from a low desk chair height in order to use the bench top. The idea of using stool to sit at bench top level never entered my mind, I'm going to try sitting on stool in which I will be practically standing. Hopefully improving my mobility while enjoying woodworking with mostly hand tools. Thanks again.

Lost Comma I dont know alot but I do know this "free" is a illusion.
Nothing is "free" and charity is a lie.
You do something for charity and get a good feeling..., or to show off for your friends or co-workers, but human nature is like that.
I do something charitable I dont shout it out and will even do it anonymously, but still I get that feeling.
Not SAYING there is anything wrong just that free and charity are illusions and not unmotivated.
