I had stopped my subscription to the MT app a few months after it switched to Discovery. I saw that the content wasn't as frequent and I knew that under Discovery it was not going to be as great as it previously was. I see I wasn't the only one! I agree, this gives the guys a chance to really expand more on what they wanted to create, rather than just being something to make a profit for a company.
They screwed me at first, mine shut down a month before they said it would, Discovery - is the biggest rip-off going, all they put out is stuff that's already two years old and you watched it on TH-cam a year before, dumped them like a hot potato. I think Motortrend died due to complete mismanagement.
Really love the input on this! Think you are spot on! I have been wrapping my head around doing a YT channel and am in infancy stages. But its the content that keeps me interested. What I like seeing is bringing the old cars back from the dead and doing what they were made for. Take them on the road and then to the drag strip. These cars were made to go down the quarter mile and them evolving getting better and better is captivating! I am down in Texas and literally thought I need to get my GTO's going and road trip them to FOMOSO raceway and race at an event out there. Lots of plans but will get there eventually! Keep up the good work and content. Subscribed.
You really hit the nail on the head. I'm a 60year old mechanic and I just started watching u tube about 2yrs ago mainly because I don't have 100000 grand to build my short bed dodge. There builds are so over the top I can't really relate to them and learn nothing. love your content only wish I could come to the yard and buy one of the sweet projects I see settings their. I'm a Pennsylvania guy and all are cool cars rot away keep up the good work
I know I am not speaking for everybody but the shows I am moving away from are the ones that are almost all rusty beaters, now and then a car that is less than perfect is cool but I like to see nice cars and so many shows just make one ratty piece of junk after another. I like Stay Tuned which doesn't build 200,000 dollar cars but most of the time they are more than presentable. Just one guy's opinion
I personally feel that the unfinished cars are more relatable to most viewers. If you want something to drive and enjoy, most people can get a car running/driving in their driveway if they want. Once you add body and paint, you’re looking at a lot more money and a ton more time. Unfortunately, a lot of people send their cars out and they end up in body shop prison. My bosses 71 Charger R/T is a perfect example. Been in body shop prison for over three years now.
Yup totally agree. This may be a sad turn of events but it is just the start of full out real gearhead content. We will have the say now ans watch what we all do best. We don't need production companies for that.
Yes but I sniff a car "Giveaway". I do think youtube is the way to go. But corporate WILL invade your content eventually. It has to, in order to survive. You said it yourself.
it was way before 2021 I was living there it was more like 2018 we lost it 2016 in New Zealand and I moved over there in 2017 for work and lost it the next year again
@ are you talking about the subscription service or TH-cam? I was a direct subscriber to Motortrend from 2018 to 2021 and in 2020 Motortrend sent a email to all countries outside of Nth America telling us they were closing down the subscription only service for us.
Again, everything comes out of our pocket. What you missed is that on the big productions, very big companies are the only products you will see as they have the money to throw out, plus give parts. Smaller companies don’t have that extra cash. With small channels, you will get to see products and companies that are growing and that are lot of people do not even know exist, plus it helps our builds as a benefit.
MotorTrend is dead to me. To cancel ALL that is Good, is just a voilation of everybody's devotion to the platform. I'm not only going to cancel my streaming service, I'm also going to cancel my magazine subscription.
That’s going to be the downfall of car makers. They let people in suits decide what I want to drive instead of what we want. Cars are crazy expensive. The technology has gone insane. We need more reasonable priced cars with gadgets to complicate safe driving.
The news yesterday sucked balls. MotorTrend is dead to me. Not only am I cancelling my streaming service, I'm also cancelling my magazine subscription.
I think VGG is a bit of a different example. The roadworthy rescue sets weren't near as good as the regular channel content. It all seemed forced/staged/rushed. I think we are seeing the death of any car show on broadcast TV if you look at who has moved into YT in the last year. The entire sat/sun morning hot rod TV, trucks, Stacy David crew seem to have moved into the space. I think SD has had a channel for a while but we have seen a few of the others really show up.
I hate the gonna lose the shop or stupid high end builds is what they think we want. Been a fan of roadkill before it was roadkill. The sad thing is the builds and production is gonna take a dive. This is the problem the add money went south and they took money from people that don't understand them or us. true answer is to make TH-cam pay cuz I can't afford to buy 25 buck t-shirts from everyone or pickup sponsors
I do agree that to many of us, including myself, do a lot of the same things over and over. I am working on a series of videos that are different but still kind of the same. They are more educational and will hopefully help people on their builds. For most of us, we have to use what we have available to build. I am fortunate enough to have multiple cars, so that helps. However, it’s still kind of the same old… What kind of things would you like to see?
It was the host from Vice grip garage that made me go away from Motor Trend. I just can't stand that guy and his made-up names for parts and things. It was because of this guy that I stopped shopping at O'Rielly's Autoparts store. I won't watch anything that this guy is in. I won't go to any events that this guy has anything to do with.
It's time for something new anyway. David Freiburger is so full of himself it got annoying. Mike Finnegan became fat and lazy. Nobody has $50,000 to build a roadkill garage race car. But yet because of them everybody thinks they need to find a car in a Grove and get it running for their TH-cam channel.
Stopped watch them when pulled all shows off youtube and put everything behind pay wall most road kill just junk cars they throw way to much money into but don't finish done this to them selfs

I also left after they switched to discovery, your comment matches exactly how I feel about MT.

I stopped watching years ago! Actually when they cancelled junkyard crawl with my man Steve I deleted it!

Roadkill and VGG were both soooo much better back when they were in their early days!
Sad this happening but like you said, good times to come. Hope to see you here in Vegas for Muscle Cars at the Strip in March.
Love Vice Grip garage

I can see all the range , low buck to high dollar. If the hobby restricts entry level, it won’t survive.

They were already free to do what they wanted - Roadkill had no corporate interference.
I concur....🏁
Only big corporation in the way now is TH-cam...
There has to be an avenue to post the content and there really isn’t a better place at the moment.
Yes but I sniff a car "Giveaway". I do think youtube is the way to go. But corporate WILL invade your content eventually. It has to, in order to survive. You said it yourself.
Thanks for the info, I liked and subbed so keep it up bro. Cheers from Canada.
Sad day I hope there is another season of roadkill garage in the bag I'll really miss dulcich!
One more season.
What year is that orange car and make? It almost looks like my first car. I’d love to have it
As a Australian, we lost access to MTOD in 2021. At that stage the quality was dropping, well the film quality was better but the content not so much

2:20 He excitedly explains how his channel will be just like every other sponsor driven channel.

"Again, everything comes out of our pocket"
"We're excited to get that part for free or 50% off"
So which is it?
MotorTrend is dead to me. To cancel ALL that is Good, is just a voilation of everybody's devotion to the platform. I'm not only going to cancel my streaming service, I'm also going to cancel my magazine subscription.
I think the tv side and magazine side are totally different businesses.
@@richardf.8412 perhaps, but they can both take a walk at this point.
That’s going to be the downfall of car makers. They let people in suits decide what I want to drive instead of what we want. Cars are crazy expensive. The technology has gone insane. We need more reasonable priced cars with gadgets to complicate safe driving.
Agreed. They aren’t creative.
The news yesterday sucked balls. MotorTrend is dead to me. Not only am I cancelling my streaming service, I'm also cancelling my magazine subscription.
It is sad. But I believe that better content will start coming in the future rite here on TH-cam.
@@ShadeTreeVintageAuto - I agree with you, but it was still just a betrayal to every fan out there.

I do agree with you on VGG, the tv stuff wasn’t as good.

Like I said, even hitting the like button and subscribing helps.
u can do the same thng over and over until it gets boring
roadkill got boring

He's even rude in person
Asked for an autograph for my kids tee shirt, and got the attitude instead
Done with it all.
