In fact, Muay Thai comes from Muay Boran (Boran in Thai means Ancient or Oldest) Muay Boran is very dangerous boxing because Muay Boran uses the sharpest and hardest part of the body to fight with the enemy. Thai people in the past had fewer armies than the enemy. When they missed and dropped their swords, they would use Muay Boran, Tackling your opponent includes elbows, knee, fingers, head, feet, heels, and chin. Traditional Muay Boran is extremely dangerous and life-threatening. But in order to make it into a sport, these postures must be cut out so that they can be used actively.

Muay Boran is actually an umbrella term for old many regional Muays
There were many regional styles of Muay in the Early Rattanakosin Era such as:
Muay Jerng and TaSao from the North
      Muay Korat of NorthEastern,
      Muay Loburi of Central
      Muay Chaiya of the South
      And etc.
Each had unique guards, stances, footworks and striking techniques distinctively different from one another.
All regionals styles were accumulated, blended and developed through Bangkok arenas and through exchanged techniques amoung the fighters when they transfered from camp to camp…Until…

I also do Muay Thai and it's a hard sport, but it's fun. One thing to note Taekwondo kicks are mechanically different to Muay Thai kicks. It's the way the body mechanics required to perform the kick as well as the stance. An example of this is Taekwondo uses a bladed/side -on-stance and are wider in their stance, also the roundhouse kick has a snap to it and there is more emphasis to use your feet to kick, this also lends to the stance as well.
While Muay Thai has a forward facing stance, it helps with checking incoming kicks and the stance isn't wide. For the roundhouse kick, the power comes from your hips and with rotation and your kick must go through you opponent, there's no snap from the kick. It's like swinging a baseball bat on someone and you don't kick with your foot, you kick with your shin.

You're totally right. I think Taekwondo kicking is meant more for point kicks. Muay Thai kicks are meant to destroy 😅

    • @TheHabsification
      @TheHabsification 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

@@WashedOlympian More or less yeah, It also comes down to the rule set and how the sport is performed, from what I understand point scoring is heavily favoured or lends itself to Taekwondo, so if the kick just lands regardless of the effect, you score a point. In Muay Thai it's a lot different when scoring points because you have to do damage and did any of the damage effect you.

Muay Thai is a martial art known by the nickname, “The Art of 8 Limbs”. This nickname encompasses the striking aspects of the sport, which include punches, elbows, knees, and kicks.
The inclusion of both upper and lower body striking makes for an intriguing, fast-paced, and powerful sport. Athletes can use any of the eight strikes, in any combination of their choosing, and can place their strikes at any part of their opponent’s body, including the legs, body, and head.

I think it's because his style is so beautiful, like watching characters from games or anime fighting, especially his Kick and Push Kick. in my opinion, I think you would like His next opponent too. His name is Superbon Rank#1Both Muay Thai and Kickboxing. He has the most dangerous kick as deadly weapon; I'm not talking about power like Tawanchai but how it lands to the head and makes opponent sleep from an unexpected angle that amazing to see. ONE Championship is a multi discipline league that does in fact include mma fights, but also Muay Thai, Kickboxing, and Grappling contests.
Muay Thai is called the art of 8 limbs because its basically boxing but you can use every part of your body except the head to strike, hands elbows knees and feets. You can also throw and sweep your opponent to the ground which gives you points and you can even strike them on the way down while they are falling but you cant strike an opponent on the ground or grapple. There is no ground game.
As for the leg contacts, thai fighters have conditioned legs, because they spend so much time kicking their shins gets damaged and consolidates itselfs over and over making it stronger every time until it becomes as hard as rock, at the same time the nerves in their legs also get damaged beyond repair which means they barely feel anything when kicking or getting kicked. So yeah baseball bats is an accurate way of describing it.

In addition to kicking with both shins, there are also two foot organs, left and right, that are used for bracing and kicking. To prevent the opponent from getting close Including to destroy the rhythm of using the opponent's weapons. This method is also very violent. Can knock down the opponent.

The reason why they are able to go bone to bone is because they have been kicking each other and the bag since they were super young. Also when you kick hard enough is creates micro fractures in the shin which heal back into harder bone with less nerves so it hurts less. They also usually only connect with the shin on the body and below because it would hurt the foot or ankle more, the head kicks however, doesn’t matter what you connect with.

The most common tactic in MuayThai is "เจาะยาง" (means "puncture a tire" in English. You can use this keyword to learn this tactic). It is to kick the opponent on a calf on the same position over and over again until they injure enough and cannot use that leg to stand.
This technique counts as a TKO in MuayThai. Ridiculously some foreigners or other martial art practicers called them as a submission.
If you got KO by this, maybe you can't feel you leg for a week.

The second name means what he said, his second name became Senchai Muay Thai Gym, and I'm not joking, that's actually pretty common for fighters to promote their gym in their fight card.
I understand the cringing towards the shin to shin blocks to roundhouses etc but it actually doesn't feel like much to these guys their shins are so conditioned they can cut down bamboo trees like their legs are chainsaws. Sure they don't take that much force to kick down but they can do this for hours if they wanted to, just to give an idea about the level of conditioning since childhood.

The push kick in Muay Thai is called a "teep". Thought you should know since it's your favorite lol. For the takedowns (sweeps/dumps), once a dump is completed, the fighters are separated and stood back up immediately to resume on the feet. ONE FC actually doesn't allow too much clinching, like if there is no action within the first second of a clinch, the ref breaks it up, but in Muay Thai you are allowed to knee your opponent in the clinch, and clinches also frequently lead to dumps. The ring changes are due to changes in venue. I believe the ONE circle cage bouts are from events in Singapore while the more traditional square boxing ring bouts are in Lumpinee stadium in Thailand.
I don't know if you have interest in non-striking combat sports, but if you ever dip into BJJ, definitely check out John Danaher and Gordon Ryan. They are the literal kings of the sport.

So basically other than the knees, elbows, kicks, and punches there is clinching. Basically it’s pretty much stand up wrestling except you can’t pick them up by the legs and slam them but you can throw knees and elbows. You also have to be holding or grabbing in some sort of way for it to be clinching. You can also move your opponent around the ring while clinching and find more dominant positions, throw strikes, or dump/sweep them. ONE FC usually breaks them up when they clinch though and I think they should let them work the clinch more because it can dominate fights well.

Muay Thai and Kickboxing are more brutal than MMA. In MMA, there are fewer contacts since most of the fighters will go to ground game after a while. In MT, there's no ground game so the fighters absorb the hit more. MT fighters normally retire around the age of 30 while MMA fighters can still fight for titles long after that.
There is an interesting story about the Muay Thai low kick and Taekwondo. When Thailand first sent Taekwondo athletes to participate in the international tournament, we sent some professional Muay Thai fighters to participate because TKD was not widespread in Thailand back in the day and there were not enough athletes. But those MT fighters were mostly disqualified due to the habit of leg kicking which is not allowed in TKD. Some of the opponents even had bone fractures or torn muscles from the low kick😅
There's no trash talk in Muay Thai and fighters treat each other with respect. They know that fighting is just a part of their jobs and there's no need to take it personally. At the end of almost every match, the winner will apologize to the loser especially if they won by KO.

T.W.O., I appreciated your commentary, especially confirming the differences among TaiKwonDo, MMA, and MuayThai. Thanks!
For some reason, I'm finding these best competitions fascinating and very engaging. My non-professional opinions are that:
    1) MMA is too brutal for fair competition because one can (or must) beat the opponent when he is down, not to mention choke-outs.
    2) Waiting for the opponent to get up before continuing is civilized and rewards skill and stamina, which you seemed just about to say.
    3) TaiKwonDo is more elegant the way TaiChi is, but, as self-defense, not as effective as boxing, Jujitsu, MMA, or KravMaga.
    4) MuayThai, which allows leg to leg kicking, will probably always win over TaiKwando, which doesn't.
    5) The few MuayThai fighters there are seem extremely respectful of each others' hard-earned proficiency and pain tolerance.
    6) Overall, I think MuayThai seems most interesting, and it may even favor lighter rather than heavier fighters.
If I may throw out a question, do Martial arts people think there will be worthwhile heavier weight ranges as MuayThai develops?

    • @WashedOlympian
      @WashedOlympian  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Thank you so much, and I'm glad you enjoyed the content!
      1) MMA has a wider range of styles that if one person or fighter would want to compete. They have to be either a master of one or well-rounded overall. My opinion, tho, and not a fact.
      2) I enjoy the one take down, but allowing them to stand. Seems like a proper duel to me, in my opinion.
      3) Taekwondo is more for the culture and discipline. I don't think it would be successful in self-defense, other than the confidence to stay calm and think properly.
      4) Taekwondo is very limited with its rules, but I believe it's more of a dance, similar to fencing or even chess. We still have crazy fights and brutal knockouts, but nothing compared to the others.
      5) I enjoy that part of Muay Thai because it's similar to Taekwondo. This is where I've learned my discipline and also perseverance, integrity, modesty, self-control, courtesy, and indomitable spirit.
With the weight question, I have no clue what the categories are like currently, but interesting to hear there's no heavyweight?

I know it's just your opinion, but I don't see how that isn't "fair" competition. The whole idea of mma is that it's not down to the ref to make judgements and interrupt the fight. The ref only ends the fight. The action is continuous and if you get knocked down you don't get a free pass to get up, you have to fight for it. Surely, that's more fair.

You are right. All Muaythai fighters start training around 6-8 years old. Kick/Knee/Elbow/Punch training or even hit in the rib make their bone damage a little bit and healing fast (because they are kid) again and again So their bone become harder and stronger. It's authentic body building of muaythai fighters in Thailand that make their bone harder than a baseball bat. A lot of them can kick a banana tree to fall down with no sweat.

to understand what this is, it's important to differenciate between the promotion ONE Championship and the actual sport. ONE is a promotion and they have MMA (like UFC) as well as Muay Thai and Kickboxing. Their version of Muay Thai is also a bit different from traditional Muay Thai which is fought with boxing gloves and in a traditional ring while a lot of ONE's Muay Thai bouts take place inside a round cage and with light MMA gloves. there is a "more oldschool" Muay Thai variant that is fought with rope wraps instead of gloves and where the fight can only be won via KO or TKO with everything else being a draw.
Muay Thai does takedowns in the form of trips, some forms of body-throws and the likes and also uses clinch a lot but does not deal in ground fighting.
Traditional Muay Thai fights go over 5 rounds and traditional Thai scoring of the sport is somewhat weird for most western people who are used to full contact martial arts because it awards points mainly based on who can assert dominance over their opponent in exchanges.

@@WashedOlympian yes, exactly. there has been controversy in the past about who actually won a fight (if the decision was correct) because in Thai scoring, even though your opponent landed more hits, you might still be declared the winner if your showed your opponents hits to be largely ineffective. You can basically fight the whole bout on the backfoot if you want as long as you can establish that you are in controll of the whole thing. this stlye of highly technical counter fighting is actually one of the main styles that Muay Thai fighters adopt while others use a much more aggressive approach. typically more forward and aggressive fighters will often be matche up against more defensive, artful fighters because it makes for an interesting matchup. Some fighters use their extreme technical skill to force openings in their opponents though. some stlyes of muay thai heavily favour specific weapons like knees, kicks, punches, elbows.

Hahaha, I can see the logical side to that rule. I mean, you either win by knockout or by beating the guy up. If the judges see one guy pumping one dude but isn't getting beat up, and the other guy hits a few times but sends him flying and scared. Huge difference.

Muay Thai has only 3 things you can't do, ground game, headbutt, and finger gabbing facial organ or groin hit. Other than that, everything goes. Normally 5 brutal rounds. But I guess One has a different rule with 3 rounds. And Muay Thai, when you catch the leg, you can only hit once when leg is caught, but One is probably not. With that said, all your weapons better be effective. Therefore, the form that it made had to be effective. If anything the style was adapted from ancient style and arts that they actually use in war when you lose or broke all your swords or what not. And one more thing, it is legal if you hit them while they're falling down as long as they are not completely sitting or laying flat on the floor.

Tawanchai eased off and let the ref have a moment or two to politely call off the fight instead of going crazy the moment he smelled blood. Western fighters have so few fights they can't afford that. They NEED to risk the other guy's health and their own and come up with a highlight because even if they win, it doesn't matter, it needs to be fancy and spectacular first & foremost.

A bit late to the party here.
They usually don't front kick to the face because putting the bottom of your foot on your opponent's face is considered disrespectful for Thai's.
I could be wrong, but it is something I've heard from a few places.

      @WashedOlympian  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@WashedOlympian I just looked it up.
Apparently the bottoms of your feet are considered "The seat of the soul" and unclean to Thai's, so a front kick to the face is considered an insult.
It is a legal move, but you may be considered a POS for doing it in some rulesets/locations.
My gym had Saenchai teach a class a few months ago, and we were told to make sure we don't do that by accident in sparring.

Taekwondo is so fast and beautiful kick. Many times, MuayThai fighter can be knocked out by Taekwondo fighter because they are not familiar with the Taekwondo style of kicking, because they do not know where it will come from. Most of them will be knocked out Mauythai fighter in the first round. And Mauythai fighter like to save their strength for the last round. But if allowed to enter later rounds Most of them will lose to Thai boxers. This is because Taekwondo players will begin to have pain in their legs from the kicks of Muay Thai boxers and will begin to slow down and become exhausted.
