Do u have a video of the sound ur car was making ? I hear a rattle from mine too and it drives me crazy but the mechanic says everything is good and normal . I will really appreciate your help

I need to know which part is damaged. Please help! I have exactly the same Noise (OM642) 170.000KM i renewed that: -starter -chain tensioner -glow plugs (6) -oil change (all ok) still the same. i think it's got something to do with the fuel supply
I wrote here already that that I sold this car with this issue. I do not know what caused it, as I never fixed it. Someone here said that he fixed it by replacing exhaust manifolds. Those are double layer, and are known to separate and fail on older OM642s. It's a good guess, but I do not know how to fix this, as I never did fix it. When this car left my possession, it still had the noise.

Sabin Mihu I Never solved this. Timing chain and headers where fine. One guess was that the high pressure fuel pump was rattling. The rattle came from the driver side (LHD) bank. I didn’t want to pay to find out so I traded this car like 2 years ago. I heard lately that the guy who bought it is still very happy with the car. I Don’t know if this rattle has escalated to a problem.
I replaced the timing chain and tensioner after that video. I sold this car 5 years ago. This car still has the original engine and going strong. It has done about 70 000km since I sold it. I don't think any damage was done.
I replaced the timing chain even when the tensioner looked fine. The shop that replaced the chain, said that it was unnecessary. These engines rattle loud on startup if the timing chain is streched or loose. Mine did not. Some guy mentioned earlier on these comments that he replaced exhaust manifold flex pipe that are also known to fail on these engines. He apparently got rid if the noise. I sold this car over 3 years ago with this rattle. Never fixed it so I can’t help. Sorry.
Exactly the same as mine! No noise on startup .The first 30 seconds when you rev the engine the noise isnt there. After 30 seconds it shows up.How much time did you drive your car with that noisev
@@arlishehu9505 sorry but I can’t remember. Probably something like 5000 - 10000km before I sold the car with the noise. It did not get worse during that time. Apparently the guy who bought it from the dealer I sold it to was very happy with the car about 1 year later, so the engine had probably not failed.. I have never talked with the guy, so I have no idea of what (if) something was done to the noise.
@@amillhouse7087 Unfortunately did not find it. Noise still there, apart from that car running fine. I have heard a lot of om642 engines with that noise, i think its typical for them to suffer from that rattle
I have the same noise. Comes from high pressure fuel pump, a service bulletin i found says this noise is the pump adjusting fuel quantity. :)
so this sound should be as it is?
@@alexandrutache3515 you are right , i went to the mechanic and he said the same thing
Drivers side manifold flex pipe. Just fixed mine with the same issue.

what turned out to be the problem as i have the same noise
Check high pressure pump.
how u can check HPFP? I even changed new one and sound still same :(

Keep revering it like that and for sure you’ll damage or at least reduce the life of the components. Not smart!
