I used 375 Ruger brass ,got the CH dies from New Zealand 140 gn projectiles came direct from Woodlieghs just before their factory burned down.Wept at the thought of fire forming cases with the Woodlieghs so found a mould and lapped out a 7mm push through sizer to size cast lead boolit .Phew what a job !! ,.Next project is 275 H&H as I got a RCBS form die set in a deal for more 287 Woodlieghs
Update, a custom bullet maker Gary Little of Little Bullets in Queensland is now making a .287 dia flat base copper jacket hollow point match type projectile.I used these fire forming ,worked a treat punching paper
Good video on an interesting cartridge. Would love to see a picture of the fire formed case and how well it fireforms. It seems a terrible waste to use Woodlieghs for punching paper. I would suggest you check out Hawk Bullets as a replacement for the Woodlieghs. They list a bullet specifically for the 280 Ross. Also, if plinking/practice is more what you have in mind I would suggest you checkout Accurate Molds website. They list a number of designs in that caliber and if you don,t see something you like you can a design a bullet to fit your gun/needs.These are high quality molds that will last the average shooter a lifetime. Plus lead bullets will NOT harm barrels, even the older softer barrels. Fired at 2200 fps a flat point bullet is a very effective hunting bullet. I know as I use a 200 grain RCBS bullet in my 35 Rem.Contender for hunting whitetail deer. Very effective and far less expensive than jacketed slugs. If you go the cast route, get a mold that uses a gas check on the bullet, improves accuracy at hunting velocities. If plinking/low recoil rounds are preferred then learn how to powder coat bullets. Not difficult and you can find tutorials right here on youtube.
@@maritimemarksman5808 id love to chat sometime about reloading. If fb is an option. What area of province are you in? Im near canso causeway in cape breton
I have the case forming dies and reloading dies from C&H so forming is not a problem. The bullets are another problem. The riffle is basically a barreled action since it has been modified so much. I was thinking of re-barreling it to 7mm-280, and using collet dies to form the 7mm neck. What do you think? The other option is to paper patch 7mm to .294.
I think the bullets you’re loading might be a little heavy. All the Ross 280 reloading data I’ve seen calls for a 140gr bullet. Seeing as you’re using trail boss I would guess it won’t be too much of a problem. Just seems a shame after all that effort for the first 3000 fps cartridge to be slowed down with a low power powder.
Great video, thanks for sharing. Haven’t found the woodliegh bullets yet, still searching. Doing not bad with powder coated lead. Thanks again.

Great to see .303 coming back in stock. Ron's army navy had SP and FMJ last week when I was in.

my 300wm cases have started to separate after 2 firings.
What do you do with the rim on the 300 win?
Luckily you don’t have to do anything with the belt. The cases chamber just fine and fireform nicely.
