The battery life is great in my opinion. Hardcore gaming laptops can only make it an hour and a half. I assume through brightness tweaking and such, you could stretch that out for 4 hours (On the minimum they gave). I don't imagine anybody in the world will get through the battery without any source of charging nearby when it's done. I just hope that it supports quick charge since it's USB-C and tablet-ish. Then you could just bring a beefy battery bank with you and be fine.
for gaming laptops - yes, for handheld... not so much. 3ds was capable of 6-8 hours of gamepla for me. I get that 3ds is in no way as powerful as switch, but still, I was hoping for 4-6 hours AT LEAST
Nickolas Barmenkov Yea I know, but the 3DS runs games at 240p. Realistically, there's just no way anyone could pull that off with current battery technology. GPUs eat mad amounts of power, and they even ditched AMD to partner with Nvidia, who is about 30% more power efficient. So clearly, they tried to do everything they could, and the end result of 2 1/2 to 6 hours of battery life is plenty.
Switch isn't meant to be completely portable. Its meant for short trips, taking it to your friends house, that kind of stuff. They drove it home saying its a home console. The Battery life is pretty good keeping that in mind compared to tablets and laptops.
Me, personally, whenever I hear people say, "what are you going to do after the launch, and when all the games come out in the holidays?" Or "what do you do in those droughts where there aren't any good games?" My answer, I'm surprised isn't many other people's answers, "I have a day job, and other hobbies."
Paid online is the one thing that REALLY BOTHERS ME about the Switch. Nintendo had ONE advantage over PS4/Box1 by being "free online experience" and now it has thrown that advantage away. Welp, I guess I will stick to my 3DS/PC *FREE online experience* for now. - _ -
Derpmation none Since the Switch is *bigger than the 3DS* (and therefore doesn't fit into pocket like the 3DS), it is *NOT* as "portable" enough for me to consider taking it outside the house. From where I come from, we do *NOT* carry hand bags or backpacks and most of the stuff we carry are in our pockets in our country and so, the Switch's "gaming anywhere" feature is *useless* to someone like me who doesn't carry stuff in his hand or back outside home. - _ -
Infinity Master Idk, if you're like me and get jackets with big pockets (I'm always wearing a jacket. I like pocket space.), it'd definitely work. _I can fit my New 3DS XL, my phone, and a Bluetooth controller in a single pocket, and still have a bit of extra space. Then I have like 7 slightly smaller pockets. I don't think the Switch will be a huge deal for me._
Infinity Master I agree. The switch is more like something you want at home, carrying around for meeting friends rather than waiting around on a bus. Looks to big for your regular pants pockets, so it won't be very mobile.
I am so excited for Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I thought it would never happen since Xenoblade Chronicles X exists and the original had the perfect ending. This is a dream come true.

My thoughts on the Switch: - Love the early release - Glad they removed region lock - New Zelda game is gonna be massive for the game - New Splatoon looking nice - Mario Odyssey looks amazing, but I feel that it should have been a launch title. Especially considering it's sparce launch library. - My main issue with the switch is it's weak launch library imo. Besides Breath of the Wild, what else are they launching? Imo, 1 2 Switch is gonna be a playable gimmick at best. It looks like it lacks longevity.

I don't know if someone already stated this but Nintendo did confirm that the Gamepad can be charged by a power brick and the power needed is rather low so a cheap 15000m power brick could possibly charge the device twice allowing 8-24 hours of gaming on each charge. Personally that would allow for alot of play on my part and removes the issue. Specifically a 15000m PB is rather cheap at around 20$.

Here in Ireland it's €330, which translates to just over $350 usd. Things are always more expensive here, especially games, but luckily I still have a €40 gamestop voucher from Christmas
Wasn't one of the biggest problems for the WiiU pretty bad/not enough launch games to really spur the mass selling they were going for with not a lot of good games promised on the way promised leaving it scary to buy? One of my biggest questions is why need a new console when the last one seemed to be picking up later when it was actually getting good games out that it lacked at its original launch? Granted they're going for what they think is new, what they think is next before switching over probably something else again in the future, just not too soon into the future hopefully.
I think (and I'm not an expert, but hear me out) that the main problem with launches is that nintendo always tries something new. ps3 and 4 are different, but similar, as well as xbox 360 and 1. but nintendo is always pushing innovation which makes it hard to make games for it in time. I really hope switch will do great, although I'm a little (A LOT) worried about battery life....
The PS4 and X1 also had only a hand full of launch titles, whereas the WiiU had quite a lot of ports and stuff with the ability to play Wii-Games. So basically, the WiiU had quite something to offer, but people don't care. they want to bash nintendo for no reason for everything they do. At least hate them because they don't do what everyone does because of reasons.... People are just stupid and try to find something to hate and rant about.

The thing that excites me the most is that since the Switch uses a USB cable to charge, I'd get a nice external battery pack and a spare cable to travel with, or use when not on the TV Dock. Zelda Breath of the Wild is completely a Switch seller for me. I never owned a Wii U, so it works out for me personally. I really hope they port over the HD WW and TP Zelda games. I'd love to replay those games
I think the two games I'd get this system for are Zelda and Skyrim (I no longer have Skyrim, and it'd be cool to play on the go). Other than that, the rumours of the Sun and Moon sequel being on it have piqued my interest, so I'll wait to see how that plays out.

As someone who hasn't gotten into the recent Nintendo consoles, I am legitimately excited for the Switch. That new mario game looks sweet. I just want more third party games.
Given that the mainstream Pokémon games have always been on exclusively handheld consoles, and the Switch seems to be Nintendo's attempt to merge the handheld and home console experience, do you think Nintendo is going to move Pokémon to the Switch? The 3DS is already 6 years old, and it would bring in a new audience that, up until this point, might not have bought the home consoles. Fans who are exclusively interested in Pokémon games, or similar handheld exclusives, don't have a reason to buy the home console. Combining the handheld and home console also combines their audiences, including fans who would normally buy one or the other.
Likely, but it probably won't be for a couple more years. Considering Black2/White2 was nearly two years after the 3DS, Nintendo knows better than to ditch their 70 Million install base before they are certain the Switch is successful.

Just pre-orderd mine at gamestop last night. They're are two versions of the switch, mostly just with the joy con colors, but they didn't really let me choose on if i want the grey joycon version or the neon blue and red version. Have to wait til I can pick it up if they will allow me to choose which one I want.

I'm betting that the battery life has a lot to do with the system supplying power to the Joy Cons as well. Hopefully there will be a variety of power saving features available. In any case, having a portable USB battery is pretty standard these days so no worries.

The online services were very abysmal on the wiiu. Paid services include a free nes/snes game with online features added plus an original or hd look you can switch through every month, so they're equivalent of xbox live or ps plus. Paying means better servers so I'm all for it. Also they stressed quite a bit that the switch is a home console.
Funny how PC online has always been free. Then M$ somehow made it accepable to charge premium for basic functions on consoles. Never accepted the scam on XBox and will not accept it here.
I personally am quite pleased with how Nintendo went about this. Could it have been better? Yes. However, to me it seems like they are just stacking releases. Launch hits with the big highly anticipated Breath of the Wild (and for me this is absolutely a system seller. The Zelda series is my favorite gaming series ever so obviously I'm more excited about BOTW than some others) and then has a few smaller games to go with it. Then the next month they put out Mario Kart 8 and some smaller games to go with it. Then a few months later they hit with the big Splatoon 2 and some other games to go with that. Finally to round out the year when the holiday season comes along (the time where people spend their money the most) they'll drop the ever iconic Mario. To me it seems Nintendo his hitting all the buyers with a big name game every other month or so to keep interest throughout the whole year as well as getting plenty of 3rd party games in there as well. Already looks to be much more promising than the Wii U ever was. Hopefully Nintendo markets this right and gets systems off the shelves and into homes. The biggest downside for the Wii U was install base. More systems sold equals more 3rd party interest.
I think the sizzle reel had NBA 2K18 in it. That's actually really huge bc if the Switch gets sports games at the same time as the other consoles, then it's a more viable option for more people.

My feelings for the switch went from REALLY high and hyped to really angry and disappointed with the presentation. First aside from Mario and xenoblade there really wasn't any game to catch my attention (we've seen Zelda a dozen times already). No Pokémon game announcement at all which is was strike one. The game pad is 6.2 inches, the remote for my TV is a 6 inch tablet so it's not big at all strike 2. That battery life for triple A games is just horrendous and I feel like the marketing might be misleading strike three. Unless they can wow me in the future with either a Pokémon game or something new I'm going to be passing on the switch and switching to the Xbox One
2.5 hours to 6 hours of battery life, but it depends on the game (and probably settings like brightness and stuff like that). I say they are going pretty good on battery compared to what I heard about gaming laptops. Honestly, two and a half hours at minimum sounds good to me.
Xavier Soto Ok lets break down this comment 1. No pokemon announcement... Why would there be a pokemon announcement if Pokemon sun and moon just came put less than 3 months ago 2. Tablet too small... The tablet is meant to be portable and held with the joycons attached so its not gonna be some giant tablet like an ipad. 3. Battery life... 2.5 to 6 hours is great for console that can run unreal engine 4 at 720p undocked playing games like DBZenoverse and Skyrim. A gaming laptop running at full power will last 1.5 to 3 hours so the switch has a great battery life.
Ugh, I'm not convinced to buy my first Nintendo Console. The only games that interest me is Zelda and the new Mario game... and that's about it. The controls look so stiff and uncomfortable, I don't understand all the gimmicky stuff Nintento goes with rather than going for a more powerful console. But I guess without it there is no innovation to be had. And the battery life!? 2-3 HOURS when playing games!? Meh, I'm not sold. OH, AND A MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION FEE!? RePaperBag consoles won't ever be as powerful as new mid to top end PCs so they should look for other avenues to excel. And you definitely can't lug those around so being portable is a decent niche, then you're only competing with lap tops and tablets for power. Maybe the subscription fee is there to cover a mobile online service. Nintendo always ends up with great first party games in the long run; the issue is will it be supported enough by 3rd parties so its the only console you need.
For me, Zelda BotW and 1,2, Switch will be enough at launch. I'll only be playing 1,2, Switch with my finance or whenever I'm at my mom's house with my little brother and/or nieces and nephews. That new Zelda game looks huge and looks like it'll take a minute t complete and with my busy school and work schedule, it's definitely more than a month 's worth of content. It'll last until MK8 deluxe comes out on April 28th, which that game will definitely keep me occupied until Splatoon 2 comes out in the summer.
Gotta say, the functionalities listed here DO sound interesting and it seems as though they've kinda fused the best aspects of the Wii U, 3DS, and original Wii into a single system. It's also a gimmick that sounds like it can do quite a lot without being intrusive or laborious. I just hope the potable screen is of higher quality than the Wii U's Gamepad, which for me had rows of pixels die off very quickly despite light usage. At least that would only impair mobile play, though. Hopefully they'll sell controller replacements as well in the future.
The Switch definitely has a lot of potential for fun! We'll have to wait and see if they use it for games (beyond tech-demo games), but the potential is there. As for the launch library, I'm sold. I'm okay with it launching with a small amount of games, I don't want to be overloaded with a ton of games that I simply won't have time to play. I'm sure my wallet feels the same way too. 2-3 games sounds good to me, plus it looks like we won't be waiting long since the non-launch titles announced were late spring/early summer.
I'm going to hold onto hope that the premium online service will be saved for bandwidth intensive things and that they plan to reinforce value by offering freebies and eShop discounts like competitive online services. Preferably also only gatekeeping features like voice chat and party lobbies (so without you could play either globally or with friends, but maybe not globally with friends in a shared lobby)
What sold me the most was Super Mario Odyssey. I'm probably not gonna be able to get the Switch for a long time (finishing college and loans and job hunting are gonna take over my free time). But Odyssey reminds me a lot of Super Mario 64 and Sunshine, and I love the more flat, sandbox type worlds. The Galaxy games are fantastic, but I got tired of the spherical terrain and strict paths that some of those levels brought. I'm metaphorically kissing the ground right now. Also happy that we're taking a small break from motion controls. Also I'm definitely getting Sonic Mania for the Switch now instead of PS4.
To solve the battery life did they suggest to use a portable battery, since the charger is a USB plug. So if you are going got a LONG trip just pack a lot of portable batteries and you should be fine :D

I probably won't be getting the Switch until later, at least until games like Splatoon 2 and MK8 Deluxe come out. I am VERY excited about a lot of these games, though.
yeah to be honest, I'll probably wait until this summer to get it. I guarantee you there is going to be a switch box set that has splatoon and that's the main reason I'm interested. there will also be more knowledge of titles by then too.

- Mario Odyssey looks amazing, but I feel that it should have been a launch title. Especially considering it's sparce launch library.
- My main issue with the switch is it's weak launch library imo. Besides Breath of the Wild, what else are they launching? Imo, 1 2 Switch is gonna be a playable gimmick at best. It looks like it lacks longevity.

I don't know if someone already stated this but Nintendo did confirm that the Gamepad can be charged by a power brick and the power needed is rather low so a cheap 15000m power brick could possibly charge the device twice allowing 8-24 hours of gaming on each charge. Personally that would allow for alot of play on my part and removes the issue. Specifically a 15000m PB is rather cheap at around 20$.

Here in Ireland it's €330, which translates to just over $350 usd. Things are always more expensive here, especially games, but luckily I still have a €40 gamestop voucher from Christmas
Wasn't one of the biggest problems for the WiiU pretty bad/not enough launch games to really spur the mass selling they were going for with not a lot of good games promised on the way promised leaving it scary to buy? One of my biggest questions is why need a new console when the last one seemed to be picking up later when it was actually getting good games out that it lacked at its original launch? Granted they're going for what they think is new, what they think is next before switching over probably something else again in the future, just not too soon into the future hopefully.
I think (and I'm not an expert, but hear me out) that the main problem with launches is that nintendo always tries something new. ps3 and 4 are different, but similar, as well as xbox 360 and 1. but nintendo is always pushing innovation which makes it hard to make games for it in time. I really hope switch will do great, although I'm a little (A LOT) worried about battery life....
The PS4 and X1 also had only a hand full of launch titles, whereas the WiiU had quite a lot of ports and stuff with the ability to play Wii-Games. So basically, the WiiU had quite something to offer, but people don't care. they want to bash nintendo for no reason for everything they do. At least hate them because they don't do what everyone does because of reasons....

Calling something a total failure, just because you don't like certain aspects of it, has the sole purpose to trigger people that like what you don't like...
The thing that excites me the most is that since the Switch uses a USB cable to charge, I'd get a nice external battery pack and a spare cable to travel with, or use when not on the TV Dock.
Zelda Breath of the Wild is completely a Switch seller for me.

I think the two games I'd get this system for are Zelda and Skyrim (I no longer have Skyrim, and it'd be cool to play on the go). Other than that, the rumours of the Sun and Moon sequel being on it have piqued my interest, so I'll wait to see how that plays out.

Given that the mainstream Pokémon games have always been on exclusively handheld consoles, and the Switch seems to be Nintendo's attempt to merge the handheld and home console experience, do you think Nintendo is going to move Pokémon to the Switch? The 3DS is already 6 years old, and it would bring in a new audience that, up until this point, might not have bought the home consoles. Fans who are exclusively interested in Pokémon games, or similar handheld exclusives, don't have a reason to buy the home console. Combining the handheld and home console also combines their audiences, including fans who would normally buy one or the other.

They're are two versions of the switch, mostly just with the joy con colors, but they didn't really let me choose on if i want the grey joycon version or the neon blue and red version. I'm betting that the battery life has a lot to do with the system supplying power to the Joy Cons as well. Hopefully there will be a variety of power saving features available. In any case, having a portable USB battery is pretty standard these days so no worries.

The online services were very abysmal on the wiiu. Paid services include a free nes/snes game with online features added plus an original or hd look you can switch through every month, so they're equivalent of xbox live or ps plus. Paying means better servers so I'm all for it. Also they stressed quite a bit that the switch is a home console.
Funny how PC online has always been free. Then M$ somehow made it accepable to charge premium for basic functions on consoles.

I personally am quite pleased with how Nintendo went about this. Could it have been better? Yes. However, to me it seems like they are just stacking releases. Launch hits with the big highly anticipated Breath of the Wild (and for me this is absolutely a system seller. The Zelda series is my favorite gaming series ever so obviously I'm more excited about BOTW than some others) and then has a few smaller games to go with it. Then the next month they put out Mario Kart 8 and some smaller games to go with it. Then a few months later they hit with the big Splatoon 2 and some other games to go with that. Finally to round out the year when the holiday season comes along (the time where people spend their money the most) they'll drop the ever iconic Mario. To me it seems Nintendo his hitting all the buyers with a big name game every other month or so to keep interest throughout the whole year as well as getting plenty of 3rd party games in there as well. Already looks to be much more promising than the Wii U ever was. Hopefully Nintendo markets this right and gets systems off the shelves and into homes. The biggest downside for the Wii U was install base. More systems sold equals more 3rd party interest.

The reason I like Nintendo is because it's different. But if this turns out to all be true, it's gonna be like every other console on the market: Paid Online Features, Expensive Add-Ons, and currently the most expensive Nintendo console ever released (And adjusted for inflation). My feelings for the switch went from REALLY high and hyped to really angry and disappointed with the presentation. First aside from Mario and xenoblade there really wasn't any game to catch my attention (we've seen Zelda a dozen times already). No Pokémon game announcement at all which is was strike one. The game pad is 6.2 inches, the remote for my TV is a 6 inch tablet so it's not big at all strike 2. That battery life for triple A games is just horrendous and I feel like the marketing might be misleading strike three. Unless they can wow me in the future with either a Pokémon game or something new I'm going to be passing on the switch and switching to the Xbox One

I say they are going pretty good on battery compared to what I heard about gaming laptops. Honestly, two and a half hours at minimum sounds good to me.

2. Tablet too small... The tablet is meant to be portable and held with the joycons attached so its not gonna be some giant tablet like an ipad.
3. Battery life... 2.5 to 6 hours is great for console that can run unreal engine 4 at 720p undocked playing games like DBZenoverse and Skyrim. A gaming laptop running at full power will last 1.5 to 3 hours so the switch has a great battery life.
The HD Rumble will make you feel like you are really there and it will be hyper realistic.

RePaperBag consoles won't ever be as powerful as new mid to top end PCs so they should look for other avenues to excel. And you definitely can't lug those around so being portable is a decent niche, then you're only competing with lap tops and tablets for power.
Maybe the subscription fee is there to cover a mobile online service.
Nintendo always ends up with great first party games in the long run; the issue is will it be supported enough by 3rd parties so its the only console you need.

1-2 Switch sounds like it would have made a perfect Wario Ware title.
For me, Zelda BotW and 1,2, Switch will be enough at launch. I'll only be playing 1,2, Switch with my finance or whenever I'm at my mom's house with my little brother and/or nieces and nephews. That new Zelda game looks huge and looks like it'll take a minute t complete and with my busy school and work schedule, it's definitely more than a month 's worth of content. It'll last until MK8 deluxe comes out on April 28th, which that game will definitely keep me occupied until Splatoon 2 comes out in the summer.
How can you find the JoyCon GRIP too small for your taste, but each JoyCon being separate looks just fine?
Gotta say, the functionalities listed here DO sound interesting and it seems as though they've kinda fused the best aspects of the Wii U, 3DS, and original Wii into a single system. It's also a gimmick that sounds like it can do quite a lot without being intrusive or laborious.
I just hope the potable screen is of higher quality than the Wii U's Gamepad, which for me had rows of pixels die off very quickly despite light usage. At least that would only impair mobile play, though. Hopefully they'll sell controller replacements as well in the future.

The Switch definitely has a lot of potential for fun! We'll have to wait and see if they use it for games (beyond tech-demo games), but the potential is there. As for the launch library, I'm sold. I'm okay with it launching with a small amount of games, I don't want to be overloaded with a ton of games that I simply won't have time to play. I'm sure my wallet feels the same way too. 2-3 games sounds good to me, plus it looks like we won't be waiting long since the non-launch titles announced were late spring/early summer.

I'm going to hold onto hope that the premium online service will be saved for bandwidth intensive things and that they plan to reinforce value by offering freebies and eShop discounts like competitive online services. Preferably also only gatekeeping features like voice chat and party lobbies (so without you could play either globally or with friends, but maybe not globally with friends in a shared lobby)
What sold me the most was Super Mario Odyssey. I'm probably not gonna be able to get the Switch for a long time (finishing college and loans and job hunting are gonna take over my free time). But Odyssey reminds me a lot of Super Mario 64 and Sunshine, and I love the more flat, sandbox type worlds.
The Galaxy games are fantastic, but I got tired of the spherical terrain and strict paths that some of those levels brought. I'm metaphorically kissing the ground right now. Also happy that we're taking a small break from motion controls.
Also I'm definitely getting Sonic Mania for the Switch now instead of PS4.
To solve the battery life did they suggest to use a portable battery, since the charger is a USB plug.
So if you are going got a LONG trip just pack a lot of portable batteries and you should be fine :D
