This show really is as sweet as potatoes and molasses. Also I didn't grow up in Canada but I got Y-tv and it was pretty awesome, it's how I got to see ReBootm and other lesser Canadian cartoons that I have no idea what their name is.
I think the animation (not so much the lyrics) of the highwayman would've been a bit scary for me, i remember being really scared of a specific cartoon groovie (idk if you remember them, but they were music videos they'd put in between ad breaks themed around cartoons) the one I was afraid of was called rolling, the video had clips from old cartoons including Betty boop (the song is banging I have it on my Spotify now) This show really does pull from a lot of eras of stuff for children, it does old grim fairy tales, a bit of Americana aesthetic and like folk stories, old color Disney era animation, really old black and white animation
Yeah it's really unique in that it feels nostalgic and comforting in some ways, but still super creepy! I love it! And yeah the highwayman's movements are super creepy lol
The vibe of this show reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, but a bit more spooky. The writing is so simple but also witty and creative at the same time. And all these charming but unsettling weirdos
yes!! they got the vibes PERFECT! It's not soooo spooky that it's horror but it's definitely creepy while still being whimsical ! They really nailed it!
"It was the turtles I tell you! THE TURTLES!!" - Nivi, turtle conspiracist.
can't trust those turtles!
Yes! Love how you have the pot and gnome hat now. So we finally meet the Beast!

I have been singing potatoes and molasses nonstop since watching this lol
I'm so happy you guys are reacting to this. Such a great show
Idk about yall but I’m steering clear of the guy who sings about robbing me like it’s a regular day job.

YTV was lite back then, it was equally good as cartoon network and nickelodeon combine into one. Same with teletoon.
This show has such Ragtime mixed with Brother's Grim vibes to it
yesss!!
Some of the characters remind me of the show chowder. Rada, rada.
