A Drivers cab view of a Deltic Driving Eperience day on the Severn Valley Railway, on the Kidderminster to Arley section. 55019 "Royal Highland Fusilier " is the Deltic.
Brings back memories. I started my 45 year driving career at Kings Cross and used to play with the Deltics and many other types as a young 20 something lad. Would love to have another go for old times sake.
I drove this Deltic on a Great Central Railway exerience day - absolute bliss!! I am still somewhat surprised what a poor horn sound the Deltics had compared to their glorious engine sounds. Do have a go if you can - an absoute joy.
Yes, one pedal, its called the DSD pedal, drivers safety device. Sometimes called DVD, vigilance device. On mainline, you would hear a series of bleeps every minute or so, the pedal then has to be released and reapplied within 3 seconds or the brakes will automatically be applied.
Brings back memories as i worked on all 22 as an apprentice at English Electric Vulcan Works.

Great view, sound and what a thrilling experience! Had one in a 50 on the Severn Valley for my 50th... but would love to try a Deltic!
Nicely driven

bucket list
For 50s engine very advanced we were still using spitfires until 1952
As soon as this madness is over I must seek out the next day to do this, don't care how much it costs!
The pedals are like a dead man's switch I assume?
