    Honestly it makes me sad to hear how discouraged Jacob’s been sounding in interviews in relation to fan reception of the new singles. Really hope people actually take the time to listen to Heroine because it’s fantastic. Also, if fans of the TDP , don’t like it then I’m hoping they can get a ton of new fans with this album!

    I’ve seen Thornhill live twice in last year in Michigan. These guys absolutely kill it! I’m 61 years old, yet these guys are one of my favorite bands, ever! So freakin’ talented all the way around! Can’t wait to see them again! Incredible live show! Phenomenal vocals… (and so humble, yet engaging, at the merch tables). GREAT interview fellas! Keep up the great content!

    I just love thornhill, loved them since the release of dark pool, and love the ep. This album just made them my favorite band. I really love the album and the feeling of the album.

      I got some Smashing Pumpkins vibes when I saw them perform the album in Sydney a couple of months ago so I'm glad to see other people make the comparison. You can hear so many subtle influences throughout the album. Some even reminded me of Placebo!

    Can’t disrespect Deftones like that my man! Deftones are legends and are respected. They continue to put out bangers!!! Bands want to sound like them cause they are the gold standard. Thornhills new album is amazing and I loved dark pool! This just shows they can change and still be amazing! Just like Deftones!! Listen to adrenaline and then listen to Oms! It still has their sound but they take risks as well and they continue to rip and make it amazing! Thornhill is doing that just like NORTHLANE has. The good bands can!

      They’re comparing bands picking “the best of Deftones style” to an iconic band that keeps evolving with every album and keeps putting out great work. Thornhill, Loathe, Moodring , etc they’re all just fusing elements Deftones perfected 15 years ago. And just to be clear I love all 3 bands I just dragged through the mud lol

      i thought it was super weird to hear Jacob say he wasn’t that big onto Deftones and wasn’t largley influence by them, but sounds SO MUCH like Chino Moreno in many ways in his style in lots of songs and does tons of melodies that emulate particular Detones songs

    Great interview guys. I knew Thornhill would blow up since I saw the Limbo video (check it out). I'm so happy with the rest of 'Heroine' instantly. Reminds me of Silverchair albums (and art direction risks) how they had the singles that I wasn't a big fan of but they pull you in and make sense in the album journey. Thanks Jacob for having the guts to sing like Jeff Buckley. He is the GOAT to me and Smashing Pumpkins is a great call. Obviously a big influence on the scene at the moment. Timeless. Also, it's not just Ethan and Jacob that shred Deftones sound. Ben's beats are on par with Abe Cunningham (my fave drummer). Ben the Beast!!🎉 See yas in the Hip Pit in Perth with Banks Arcade❤

    • @MiguelRamirez-cr7gh
      @MiguelRamirez-cr7gh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonnieinthe256 I can see why some might think that, I don’t agree simply because I let it in and Heroine are things we’ve heard before. There’s too many songs where we can actually say “this sounds like this song”, for both bands. Loathe does a little bit better in this regard but the influence is too much at times

  • @SA1N_YT

  • @kaegee2579

    Heroine was actually the first album I heard by Thornhill. I liked Raw but the album as a whole had to grow on me. I went back to listen to older stuff like The Dark Pool and the Butterfly EP and I was like "Damn, this is great." After that, I just became obsessed with Thornhill in its entirety. And I must say that I love both the sound and aesthetic of the music videos and the new album as a whole. I've heard it described as "sexycore" and I think that works well as a descriptor. Lol
    Oh yeah, my favorite songs from Heroine are Arkangel, Blue Velvet, Raw, Casanova, Leather Wings, and Hollywood (in that exact order).

  • @cmpriola

    I love Thornhill immensely but I also adore Deftones (I was a teen in the 1990's) and for the interviewer to say that Chino "never had a good scream" is unfair. Chino's vocal versatility is really apparent on White Pony, Adrenaline, and Around the Fur. Just because artists/musicians have differences doesn't necessarily mean one artist is *better* than the other. Obviously opinions are like a**holes and everyone's got one. This is just my take.

    I still hold that The Dark Pool still has some "deftones" style to it. Listen to Haze, or any of the "softer" songs. Always a heavy emphasis on atmosphere and the toned down vocal mix is there. This album seems to double down on that style with a twist of attitude with vocals/light proggy elements.
    Also can we just call it heavy shoegaze or something else? Deftones doesn't own the damn genre it's been so expanded on in so many awesome ways by so many bands (that TDP opened me up to!)

    • @nathandjohnny
      @nathandjohnny  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Heavy shoegaze is pretty on the money

    • @MiguelRamirez-cr7gh
      @MiguelRamirez-cr7gh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree about the first paragraph, listening to Dark Pool for the first time I can hear it too. And to a point I agree with your second statement which is why it’s important to look at who influenced the band. A lot of “heavy shoegaze” bands list Deftones as an influence. And Deftones list Hum as an influence too. But Hum wasn’t as heavy

    • @QuantumLimp
      @QuantumLimp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MiguelRamirez-cr7ghOh for sure, Deftones deserves a lot of credit, and they should be brought up, but a lot of times with these new bands they're all labeled "Deftones copies" instead of people just realizing it's a small genre now. I generally get why it's done but it's gotten a little tiring through the release window for heroine

    • @MiguelRamirez-cr7gh
      @MiguelRamirez-cr7gh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@QuantumLimp Bands have been doing it for years, BUT with the emergence of Loathe I definitely feel like there’s a whole lot of people that believe everyone else is just taking advantage of that hype. That’s why I feel like Loathe gets all the love and everyone else is labeled a “copy”
