It's actually not uncommon for a speech Impediment to become harder to hide when one gets older, just like a lot of other things that happen as we age. You're less able to control them. I have a speech impediment myself that runs in the family, and when both my dad and Grandpa, though struggled with it severely as children, when They were young adults you could never tell they had one, but as they got older it came back.
