The 2024 BMW 530i xDrive Is A Well Executed Turbo Hybrid Sport Luxury Sedan

- With the introduction of the all-new #BMW5Series, the midsize executive sedan segment must take notice as one of the benchmarks moves into its 8th generation. This 2024 #BMW530i with xDrive AWD may be the entry-level version of the new #5Series, but with a new turbocharged 4-cylinder plus a mild hybrid powertrain, this combination allows the #530i to achieve up to 35 MPG on the highway, matching the fuel economy of some economy compact cars. Those who want more power can wait for the upcoming 540i, 550e, and M5 in the coming months.

Happy almost Friday everyone! We’ve been busy making some content this week of all the latest BMW models! We’ll have a full review on the new i5 M60 coming soon! Along with a few others. Stay tuned and thanks for watching! 😊
U do amazing work. Keep up the good work. Can u also do 540.
Cool can't wait
Please do a review the of 540iX. All real BMWs have an inline 6! :)
Would love to see your review of the 540i
I wish this was an evolution of the previous version. The 22-23 5 series looks so good imo
This is probably just my opinion, but the old BMW design has exhausted itself. BMW has been experimenting with this design since 2000, it seems to me that it would be difficult to continue to improve this design, because the original design is the most beautiful and appropriate, and the rest is already superstructured above it. In the new generation, the car has changed coordinately, the proportions have changed, etc. Аnd people hate to the fact that they are not used to seeing BMW cars like this, maybe after the restyling and when everyone accepts such a design, I think people will stop scolding it
@@qwaswd3173this design is inspired by the E60, tho. The G90 m5 will also be wider than G60.
Exactly my thoughts. Had one as a rental and loved itttttt
@qwaswd3173 The G60 or G90 design is inspired by E60. The F90 is more of an evolution of the F10, which is fitting that its the predecessor turn. Based on the next generation 3 series being an E21, I would say after, we would get an E12 inspired design.
$70,000 for a 4 cylinder is insane
Bro thts what im saying 😂
and for 70k a underwhelming 4 cylinder at that! I get it's a hybrid and "base modle"but you have Golf R's hitting low 4's. Heck my 22 Arteon with no added hybrid power is sub 5 seconds 0-60.
I’ve seen similar spec ones for 63k which is still not cheap
I'd get a Toyota crown hybrid Max for less
Yup and the car is super slow
As a bmw owner, seeing 4 cylinder models these days ascend to 70k range is like crazy. Maybe it was always this expensive and I don’t recall but I think my 2019 x5 m sport with the b58 was about 70k back when it was new.
It’s crazy considering a fully loaded 540i is 78k
FWIW, CPI inflation calculator says $70k in January 2019 equals $85k now. Still crazy
fully loaded x5m sport goes to about 85k now, and the X5M is up to 104k. prices are insane even for luxury brands
@@volvo_3877 I feel like we’re getting scammed to some degree. I get inflation and covid but I think everyone is exploiting those reasons to the detriment of the consumer, just speculation on my part, I could be wrong
It's been four years. More has changed in these four years than in the four years from 2015-2019.
The car looks good, the color is definitely helping and that would definitely be my color choice. Although SUVs are what folks crave, I absolutely love that BMW is still pumping out sedans. Despite the massive large beaver grilles, I always appreciate BMW designs. Most of their vehicles have this masculine, sporty, handsome look. It just looks like a man's car.
Fun fact: when not using launch control, the 530i is about as quick as a Honda Odyssey.
Along those lines, a 2016 Honda Accord V-6 did 0-60 in 5.8s (5-60 in 6.0s), got 34mpg highway, and cost $35K. Toss in a modern infotainment (while retaining physical buttons) and I would seriously consider it.
@@1MTEK correct, when not using launch control, the 530i is about 1.0 second slower to 60 than an Accord V6
@@1MTEKfinally someone talks about how underrated the the v6 accord was! It punched way above its weight class.
@@1MTEKthat accord v-6 engine was legendary.
That’s good for an economical car because the odyssey is quick
Any car @ this price point (60k+) should have a 6-cylinder motor. Period. Nice Review.
Why should it?
Love the color, too! But I'd wait for the six-cylinder 540i, especially in M-Sport form like this.
BMW is the only brand that can make a 4 cylinder sound good
@Brian_Eugene_Lee yes but think reliability as well. Because Toyota and BMW worked together on the powertrains for the Supra/ Z4, they have been proofed by the Toyota team and have proven to be extremely reliable. I don’t think they want to mess with a good thing. They are #3 behind Lexus and Toyota now and that’s major
Now that you mentioned it looks like a camry in the rear.... Now I can't unsee it..🫠🫠
I am a German fan, a BMW lover & owner of a 23 x3M , and I love how BMW are doing their cars by having the electric cars look identical to the gas model cars. Mercedes EQ designs are a big bubbly , and not as good looking in comparison. Good job BMW.
It's amazing to watch and listen to our reviewer. I've never seen anyone present such precise information in such a fluid way. He makes it look effortless but few people could match that. I love those grills. I love the color, just everything. I'd buy one just like it if I had the mula. Seriously.
He reminds me of Alex On Autos
i think black would be the way to go with this new design
45 more horsepower and a $10k price reduction and I’ll consider it 👍🏼
This looks way better than a lot of other BMW models XM/iX/X7/i7/7
The review I been waiting on
The 550e plug-in hybrid seems like it will be the 5-Series sweet spot. Obviously going to cost way more than this, but having close to 500 HP and a 40 mile electric range is way more compelling than this 530i.
But not every potential plugin hybrid owner is guaranteed to have charging access . I think the 540xi is the one to but considering it's gotten a significant power boost.
@@111danish111 It's also gotten much heavier and it is not any sportier to drive. I expect 0-60 to be 4.5 seconds which is still plenty fast but nothing special. At those prices, you can end up in a Model S LR or even a Lucid Air. Those Air model have incredible handling/feel for an EV and midsize/full-size car
@@ayushmalpeddi2793 Tesla and Lucid both have abysmal build quality. Laughable for the price they cost. Both have bottom of the pack reliability as well. BMW is sitting comfortably at #3 overall behind Lexus and Toyota for reliability and #1 overall for Best Brand according to Consumer Reports 2023 rankings.
I was just about to write the same. I own an X5 50e and it`s fabulous. But then again, there is the I5 M60. That`s M5 performance for the price of a well equipped 540.
love it when he says "it has a nice solid sounding thunk"
View number 28! Go Sofy! Can't wait to see how much fun you have doing 0-60 in this 🤣🤣
looks like it has a mustache. i can't unsee it.
I have a 2022 530i… absolutely love that car.
In the world of Suv's I still like sedans
I didn't see the Camry until you mention it. It's all in the trunk space that actually opens. Very similarly shaped. Also the bigger 5 is to emphasize/market the model your driving and the 30i being smaller is the trim. I'm sure thats gonna make its way to all models in BMW.
Hey Sofyan, I believe if you were to turn off TC you would be able to shave off an additional 0.1secs or even 0.2secs if launch is spot on, and be able to beat or match the claimed 0-60mph time. Otherwise great vid!
I miss the last generation, such a beautiful car 😢
No ambient lighting/interaction bar in the back seats anymore?
I'd still get a G80. When you step inside you feel like you are in a special car. Plus the entire top of the door panels and dash are lined with proper materials. Even a Santa Fe comes with soft touch on the upper door panels and dash. It also offers similar screens although slightly smaller. Their are very few things in this car that stand out that make me want it. It's also MASSIVE. Similar size to a minivan minus height.
Again, genesis G80 all the way. This new 5 doesn't feel special or luxurious. In fact the interior looks chintzy and cheap, although i am sure it is built well.
The rear design is nice on this one!
Thank you for the detailed review. How harsh was a ride on 21 rims?
BMW went crazy with all the gloss black on the exterior. I am once again asking all car makers to eliminate or limit the amount of gloss black on cars (either interior or exterior) and also give us back normal physical switches and buttons inside. Not everything has to be on a touch screen. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk.
The door pockets seem to have shrunk by 50% compared to the previous generation 5 series. You can’t fit more than one water bottle (or not at all for the back seats) on the sides. Kinda disappointing consider how more space was considered but not for storage.
Every report states that BMW has cut corners in the new 5… are you telling us that this is a perfect car at an excellent price?
Looking forward to your I5 review.
I'm getting somewhat of a 2023/20241 Honda Accord vibe from the rear taillights. 🤔
G8 looking vehicle however.
And another g8 review.🙂👏👍

What is this black bumper segment under the kidney grill?
Im not sure if it is adding any beauty of the colour scheme nor it looks trendy.
Like the bag in the trunk, how many liters and what brand?
I just got one and i will be honest its not the fastest thing but it is so comfortable especially to commute to and from work it does the job well
And I know a lot of people don't like the design language but I find it better looking than the previous generation
@@ishb6911How is the interior build quality? It seems like it is a step down from the previous generation.
@user-mc5oi1md6g the interior quality is actually solid but they eliminated the rear ambient lighting on the door panels which is a bummer especially since the previous gen has ambient lighting in the rear. But driving on Michigan roads it glides over rougher roads
@@ishb6911 That's an odd omission. A smooth ride is definitely important in Michigan. Glad you're enjoying it!
it better be for fkn 70k 😂
Looking forward to the new e class review
I love this car, the exterior is great and sporty and classy and the interior is very modern and simistic
Are there any versions with color matched front end. I hate the black in the front.
2023 540i for life
Cant wait for 5he 540i
Insane sedan Sofyan.
The car looks great but I'm not spending 70k+ for a 4-cylinder mild hybrid that has 255hp
Do you really need power more on American roads?
@@sunshadow9704 I mean when I'm paying 70k + for a car, then yes I do. Because I can go get a 35k + car with the same HP or more.
@@michaelwillis5929 well, cost of the vehicle has nothing to do with the power it produces. Although I agree there is a correlation.
530 with 4 cylinders is fast enough
I took a trip from Dallas to Knoxville in my 23 X5 and used the BMW navigation exclusively and I have to say, it was outstanding. Twice it rerouted me around delayed traffic, one of which was a complete closer on i40, and it was spot on. I also like how it will inform you of delays in real time, meaning , it may be an hour away but you know it's there and you can monitor the whether the delay time increases or decreases so you can decide to take the alternate route or not. They've really put an error into it's usefulness.
What engine oil viscocity does thit car use ?
It slaps!
I have no sense why Lexus stopped producing gs450h, for that money it provided more power, better mpg, and of course reliability. But people choose Camry, I mean ES model (( sad
lovely interior, that exterior tho
Fun fact: You can get ventilated seats in Kia Seltos...
Why are they dropping the fog lights? The X5 too lacks it
Not bad, excited for the 540i though. Dad has a 2018 540, time for a replacement. He's considering the new 5 or a CPO M850 gran coupe.
@@japanwatchconnection almost 100k miles, time for a new one before stuff starts costing thousands just to keep it in good condition
bro i’m saving up for a 2018 540i 😂
I’m in Korea and I’m already seeing these on the roads
No cool seats as standard at this price point not acceptable but the design is nice and pretty nice interior
if one can afford 70K, add extra 1K and enjoy cool seats.
wait to order the car in march as it goes back to the interactive bar that Canada and Europe has
This is a great review much better than many others I have seen on TH-cam. I own a 2024 530iX in the same color as this one. It does have just about all of the premium packages you can get on a 5 Series. Not necessarily what I wanted but I bought my favorite off the lot rather than ordering a custom build. This is my third 5 Series and the more I drive it the more I like it. Are there some things I would change yes of course but though the styling has changed this is still a BMW at heart and that's what counts in my book. The new 5 Series is for all intents and purposes a downsized 7 Series. It rides more like a 7 Series and drives more like a 7 Series the latter of which I am not too fond of. I liked the road feel of my previous 5 Series more than this one. Some of the technology BWM reserved for the 7 Series and above has also been put into the 5 Series. The design changes were obviously made to carry into the next decade without another major change. Look for the other major luxury car brands to move in this direction. Mercedes already has though not to the same extent as BMW. At some point, they are going to realize manufacturing completely different body designs for automobiles depending on their power plants is not a good long term strategy. As far as paying too much for a 4-cylinder, you are going to pay about the same for BMW's major competitor the Mercedes E-Class which also has a 4-cylinder. That is just the way it is. Of course, you can buy a Chevy for a lot less.
Is your 530 on 21 rims? If so, how harsh is a ride?
@@sunshadow9704 yes,the ride is smooth just as you would expect from a 5 series
@@mysticwanderer4787 Could you please confirm you ride is on 21 inch rims and also that the tires are high performance summer only? According to BMW USA site, if 21 rims selected, no all season tires are available. And if confirmed that's deal breaker for people who live in 4 seasons climate (all north and north east regions)
@@sunshadow9704 I do have Summer tires on my BMW though I live in the South where snowfall of any kind is rare. I would check the dealer stock or just reach out to your local dealer as they may come standard with a different tire in areas where a summer tire would not be practical.
@@mysticwanderer4787 in north east all season tires are must.
The door pockets seem to have shrunk by 50% compared to the previous generation 5 series.
That 14.5” screen makes the 12” screen look small, probably also bc of that bezel.
Love the color, glad it has an engine. Not sure i consider this car sporty at all.
Hopefully they can bring back the Twin turbo V8 as M560i with the latest S68 motor that is on the 760i and X7 M60i
No mention of the genesis g80 when shopping in the luxury segment?
The g80 is a better value but the bmws the better vehicle. The bmw will be more expensive than genesis but it’s also a lot better
I actually like it it doesn't look that bad we just live in a world where everyone complains about everything 😂
I don’t have a problem with the looks, I have a problem with the power train for 70k
@@kennethsmith6899 Give it a year it’ll be 40 K
It’s a monumental challenge to find any complaints and faults in Acura, Honda, Bmw, Mercedes, genesis, Audi, Porsche, Mazda, Lincoln, Hyundai, etc
But once you look at Toyota Lexus Infiniti, then that’s a whole different story…
It’s heavy. And the 30 motors never been especially powerful. Gotta go 40 on this one.
I don't think it's about complaining, exterior wise the previous gen looks miles better. BMW design language has been disappointing to say the least lately.
Front AC vents? Am I missing the controls for that? lol
"i don't think i will be able to get my fingers under there, i don't think there is a spare tire" SHOULD HAVE TRIED HARDER !
70k for just 255HP?😂
That's enough.
Did you want them to charge more?
It dyno more.
Idk why and I can't put my finger on it but something about the interior looks less premium than last gen
honestly it’s probably because they don’t put any effort into interiors anymore it’s all about the screens.
@@Alxx..03 new Mercedes e class has lots of screens and that looks better inside to me than this
few tweaks to the design could have made this the best looking BMW.. Slimmer front/hood, wider, shorter front overhang to prevent it from looking like a FWD.
BMW is truly losing it with their design. I know that enthusiasts love to always badmouth newest gens and saying how "previous looked better," but genuinely I feel they're going downhill. Not much cohesion or distinction in design.
By the way, there's no "x" in espresso, so no need to pronounce as such. :)
You can't thrash it in its break in period. It's programmed not to give full power and that's likely the reason you're not achieving the claimed times
nice stache
Rear look like 2023 Honda Accord and Genesis G80.
$70k for a low-powered 4-cylinder 5 series is a hard pass, at least wait until the bigger engine comes.
I actually like the look and design. I just won't pay 70k for 255hp.
Do you really need power more on American roads?
This car should be 15k less than what it is
Why has BMW gotten rid of rear ambient lighting in all models??
Save money.
@japanwatchconnection As BMW cares......
The black rocker doesnt look good. Theres an element of Holden/ Volvo in the front 3/4 bodyside.
Beautiful exterior. I am not a fan of the dual iPad dashboard.
I’m starting to like this…what’s wrong with me 💀
Shifter very Porsche like
A $70K car and it doesn't even include rear-seat climate control? Even my Audi A4 has that.
not true, the 540I is on their website now
They just listed it! I have been looking everyday since Nov 1. After driving the 530i I knew I wanted a 540i
@japanwatchconnection I agree car prices are insane! It’s not just BMW!
Sofyan, you mentioned the TLX earlier in the video and I have to ask your opinion. Do you think the TLX or 530i is a better buy? I know they are different vehicles but which is the better buy ? Great video by the way, Ioook forward to the m60 video!
the 5 series is better in every single way. it's a true luxury product, the TLX is what honda thinks a luxury car would be if you started off with an economy car. TLX also is terribly packaged and has far less rear leg room. and the horrendous infotainment.
The 5-Series just has more road presence and luxury versus the TLX in our eyes. The Acura is not bad of course, but for the extra money, you can see and feel the extra attention to detail in the BMW. If you have the cash, go with the Bimmer, if not, the TLX, particularly in Type S form is also a great value! We should be driving that refreshed Acura next month so stay tuned for our full review on it!
This car does NOT have the interaction bar! Its apart of the Executive pack with soft close
Definitely worth the $4700 for the six.
$70k for a 4 cylinder with only 255 hp. They are smoking crack...
$70,000 and NO ventilated seats?!!! Absurd
Why do you need vent seats? It is genuine question.
Just had a new 4 series as a rental and was impressed with the fuel efficiency but the engine felt so underpowered
35 MPG is excellent for a vehicle of this size.
6.1 in 0-60 with no cooled seats yet it's over 70k? Yeah I'll take a Genesis G80 electrified.
I don't like the black front and rear bumper accents.
These car manufacturers be finessing with a $70k entry price on a luxury sedan with less then 300hp. 😂😂😂
I'm sorry but isn't it a sin to be getting a turbo 4 cylinder on a luxury car?
No because it’s underrated and faster in the real world and driving dynamics are proper luxury car good with excellent handling feel chassis dynamics etc
A luxury car with a turbo 4 that’s slower than just about anything else including non luxury cars and drives like a cheap economy car is a sin
@naveenthemachine at least have a twin turbo v6 mild hybrid as standard in my opinion
@@connorpoultney4400 if the power is underrated no you don’t. Bmw engines have a lot of power like the average Honda
All these car reviewers drool over German cars like there’s no tomorrow, but when a Japanese automaker makes a 4 cylinder, it’s the end of the world. 🤣
No offense but it’s actually the complete opposite. People always blindly praise Japanese cars when they make stupid decisions and people even go to further lengths by even defending junk Japanese automakers such as Nissan, Mitsubishi and Subaru when they make mistakes but when it’s a German or American automaker that makes a mistake its the end of the world
For whatever reason BMW USA has decided NOT to include the rear digital 4-zone climate control, soft-door close, front massage seats, and the comfort luxury seats for any of the US 5 Series market. Thus, your front seat's headrest is now manual, the front seat extender is manual, does not have the side bolster, and the list goes on. On the i5 M60, the US market will NOT get the M-style seat belts, and the wheel design is limited. BMW USA is going to lose a lot of enthusiasts who are very familiar with BMW products and many US customers feel that they are getting robbed by paying these high prices and not receiving the same equal features and options. Dealers are also getting frustrated because for decades BMW owners were used to these features and now BMW USA has taken it away for US market only.
You are paying a lot less than European market, so yeah.
This is not about converting currencies. With cost of living and inflation, the US consumers are paying a lot more and getting a lot less. @@vlad-marincalota6819
