That is some Allen Millyard level engineering.
Allen would of put 2 cylinders in it
That's an insult to Allen Millyard, he would have had that running smoothly and evenly.
Mr Millyard Makes crazy engines.
I had the same thought from the title.
Yeah Adam would've remade the crank so it fired properly and sounded amazing
Turbo Busa, V8 Busa, and now Inline 5? the Hayabusa engine definitely has endless possibilities.
Now waiting for a V10😅
You also can mount Busa cylinder head on large block 4-cylinder VW engine. Some VWs in Austrian/German hillclimb racing uses this setup with displacement of 1.3 or less.
Imagine a V16 Hayabusa engine.
@@CyanRooper why not a w32
I think a straight 6 Busa is what we need next lol.
I feel like I need a Hayabusa powered Cappuccino in my life
You could chop a cylinder off to make a triple, and still have a rocket ship.
@@joejoejoejoejoejoe4391 Or just use a triple in the first instance: a Speed Triple engine has enough grunt. Especially the new 1200cc one, but that's probably hard to come by at a sensible price.
Sure you can! Buy a nescafe and add a Hayabusa sticker to the packaging
@@fidelcatsro6948 🤦♂️
what i need is a hayabusa powered laundry machine(it must run on diesel and have a full body exhaust)
“Let’s build an engine with amazing sound as the top priority.”
It isn't about the horsepower or maintaining the high rev limit. It is all about the craftmanship. Only the fact that this thing is working is enough to blow my mind. Props to the man.
Now time for a ~2.0L straight six
Sure you can, plenty of toyota car engines in the scrapyard
@@fidelcatsro6948and bmw
A V10 configuration , similar to the V8 would be MIND BLOWING! Come on, someone with deep pockets needs to do this!
Somewhere in the world, there's always to be found an eccentric mechanical genius coming up with something like this! Great vid!
Very clever, BUT the best thing about 5 cylinder engines is the amazing sound so you have to make a new crankshaft and camshafts to get that awesome sound. Then you can say, "bloody wonderful"
I've honestly never been more amazed about a custom engine build. My uncle loves motorcycles and owns several, and i feel like if i showed this to him he would just lose it.
if you aren't familiar yet w/ mr Allen Millyard's channel, you'll find plenty of amazement there.
but as a warning, although it might appear trivial watching his work, do not attempt to work on engines w/ a hacksaw and a set of files... :)
That is wild! Great craftsmanship to pull something like that off!
Great video! And thanks for making use of my old animations too, glad they're still coming in handy after all these years!
Every time I think I am somewhat competent with tools, I see something like this.
Don't watch Allen Milliard videos then, he's on anouther level.
Mr Eskedal did not use a hacksaw, files and a barbeque to build his. Allen still rules!
I want to see an 8-cylinder boxer Hayabusa engine.
I think Jay Leno has V8 one in a Ariel atom
That would sound insane, but I don’t think anybody’s gonna try it.
Boxers have many issues
H 16 supercharged.
@@jakecoye738. Tell that to Porsche and VW
It sounds like overlaying a 3-pot onto a 2-pot engine, which considering the firing intervals would be more appropriate. Definitely didn’t have that iconic harmony of a 144 or a 72 deg firing interval, rather this one had somewhat of a brutal punch that gets harsher the higher the rev.
Also, this level of backyard engineering definitely had Allen Millyard vibes. His projects alone definitely worth several videos to discuss.
The overall impression would be a lot like a 180 degree parallel twin, because of the 3:1 ratio of the interval groupings (90+90 vs. 180+180+180; equivalent to 180-540)
As a Volvo owner, I love this!!
This channel is in my top 10 favorite channels and, I am subscribed to over one thousand channels, Thank You for posting this video 👍
Cool vid....i had a poked and stroked GSXR1100 i road raced in the 90's.....200hp and 390lbs....170 at the rear wheel on a dynojet dyno
How do you lose 30hp by turning a chain and 1 wheel? Not being a pain, just wondering. It sounds like quite a high loss to the wheel.
I usually see 175hp at the wheel on a 200hp bike, 12 to 15% loss is quite normal for a bike. Imagine how much drivetrain loss you have in a car.. 🤒
@@tituskoreman1565 It's about the same because of fewer direction changes. Unless it's 4WD.
Best 4 cyl engineering ever, i just wish Suzuki would realize how absolutely amazing they are and make them in 2L versions for cars!
Yep. One of these in a Swift!
@@peterwilding1203 Or in a S-chassis!
Cappuccino kei car FTW
wouldn't even need to be 2.0L by today's standards, 1.6 or 1.8 would be enough given this 5-cylinder makes 225hp. Perfect engine for a small hatch.
i love all inline 5's
love your vids, Visio - always fascinating!
Without the even firing of a true i5 crankshaft, this Frankenstein 5 wannabe will always be just a shaking, vibrating freak on a test stand.
Rather see the inline 6 cylinder Japanese motorcycle motors with a 24 valve head.
🤘😎👍 FACC YEAH !
Would be too wide.
Horex of Germany build a VR6. Sounds like a VW R32.
Seems the same fellow has one of those, too.
th-cam.com/video/VCvF4wv5nrU/w-d-xo.html
Now a 3.2 v10 for car applications and the correct firing order for that sound at 12K Rpm.
That guy has all my respect!
2:36 haha enlarge balls (captions) 😂
Suzuki has/had a Swift hatchback a few years back fitted with a n/a 1.6lt 4cyl that produced 100kw/134hp.
I'm sure they could do something with a 1.6 Hayabusa, it may take a bit of work to get it all into the new Swift 🤷♂️
I love my gen 3 hayabusa, removed the mufflers just to see how it sounds and the sound is an absolute MAYHEM
I am outraged by the fact that it's not a 144° inline 5 ! What a missed opportunity 😢
It's actually better for a motorcycle engine to be odd firing because the small dips in torque allow the back tire to recover grip instead of sliding continuously.
I like he did it this way. First, much easier to manufacture. Second, interesting sound, not as common as an inline-4, but definitely got some tones of it with the 5th cylinder making it sound bit angrier. That's also the third reason - it is different, everybody knows 144° inline-fives, this is original. Cool project
@@VisioRacer yeah of course that's an awesome project but my heart for 5cyl wanted a smooth reving high pitch one like the volvo btcc 2l. I get why odd firing is better for bikes but im all about sound ngl
I was hoping for the typical I5 song but belted out in a high RPM falsetto.
I love that it’s a Norwegian person who did this! :)
I would be concerned about the imbalance. He clearly was capable of making a bespoke crank for the GSXR1100 6-pot, why not also this 5 cylinder Busa?
I think they may fall short of their power target because of internal harmonics, also.
Now if only someone could do this to an F20C...
Madness! Bravo 🙂
very intersting!
thanks again :-)
That is a very good pronunciation of "Bjørnar" for a non-native speaker.
Thanks!
Needs a carbon-fiber XK120 Coupe lovingly draped around it's loins - 'to add lightness & style' : )
Crazy complicated but … it works😁! Impressive engineering.
I'm think many would people agree with this, but I find the Hayabusa engine most interesting in anything but a bike. Having such a high-revving and rowdy engine in a small car is such a cool phenomenon. It's a completely different sensation, perhaps more exciting (compared to the stock engine); an engine that is extremely performance oriented, outstandingly energetic, and still has power that is proportional to the car it's swapped into. It would prove to make an outstanding driver's car.
This would be rad in my Geo Metro convertible 😀
Hat off.
Love it!
If can be 5...can be 6 😊
If it can be 5 and a V8, it can be a V10 😈
I was thinking old school straight 8 personally.
@@edim108 V12 can be V16
@@Soxynos especially with relatively small displacement and rigid block so the crank flex wouldn't be as much of an issue.
Great job, great video, I'm subscribed. Sure would like to know the total cost.
Can't wait to hear a 5cyl 'busa when it's ready. oooomg.
I've always thought it would have been amazing if Suzuki had taken this tech and built a 3.6 - 3.9 liter V12.
i just wait for a two engine, twin hayabusa setup, with two half hayabusa engines :D
The best possible permutations of Busa motor would be a either;
Straight 8 - two standard engines, one in front of the other, cranks connected together,
Or
V Twin - custom billet block, cut down head, Harley inspired rod ratio, crank pin, firing order etc
Who wants to start building?
A 600cc V-twin... That would be similar to a CB-500x or maybe a Ducati Monster.
I need a 2 Hayabusa blocks melded together to form a boxer 8 engine for my Subaru.
Flat but not boxer!
I made a jam sandwich today and was happy with that until seeing what this god has achieved
Yeah Adam Millyard's creations are way more crazy and intricate
I'd love to see him chop up and reassemble a crank to get that perfect 144°!
The 1630cc in-line 4 has been around for decades now +4mm overbore with +10mm billet crankshaft with low compression for pump gas make 265whp on 91-94octane. A high compression race gas build will make 280+whp. Probably around 2010+ the pump gas build was made reliable without annual bearing swaps like the racer’s pkg. Old Hat in the Hayabusa Grudge World 🌎….
ooh, can you talk about the "hartley h1 maxi v8" its got 2x hayabusa heads heh. or like the "JUDD V8" 's or just custom engines like the weird bespoke ones. i know not many people know about them and it could be a cool topic to discus
Insane
In the introduction picture there is an inline 5 it would be brutal a motorcycle with inline 5
I have always wondered why there haven't been any 5 cylinder production motorcycles.
No technical merit. Anything over 4 is redundant. It's only racing regulations that very rarely made it a good idea.
@@Turnipstalkwhy is that? Wouldn't a 6 be much finer?
The size is one of the disadvantage factor for motorycycle. The need light weight and size less for the mobility
@@adrianlovic6486 People have tried inline sixes (Benelli, Honda). They are very wide and this can cause end to end vibrations in the crankshaft. As a result of the packaging, cost and shaft twisting issues they all failed.
V4 is as much as any designer needs. Compact, aerodynamic, pretty much ideal cylinder size.
My dad had a 5 cylinder FIAT, it sounded quite cool. Now I'm thinking of what I could stick a 5 cylinder (Volvo ?) in, Rover SD1 or FIAT X19 perhaps
Fiat coupe? Very collectable now. Gorgeous too.
Fiat coupe and also fiat bravo hgt has 2.0 r5 engines@@beaterbikechannel2538
how regular Hayabusa engine in a X1/9?
@@beaterbikechannel2538 Sadly not, it was a Maria estate. If I had a choice between the FIAT coupe, and the original 850cc coupe, it would be a difficult decision, but I THINK I'd go for the old 850.
IMAO he should had created a 72 degree crank with 144 degrees between each firing piston in a 1,3,5,2,4 order.
My bucket list is just an experimental aircraft with a turbocharged Hayabusa.
A VR6 or 8 version would be something else.. siamesed rods & journals akin to Millard's V8 & v12 engines.. the ridgid separate cylinder block from the case enables all sorts of possibilities.. the i6 gsxr engines crank would be highly suspect.. Millard's lower reving i6 base engines being much more viable as with roller bottom ends
Interesting 👍🏻
Meh, look up Allen Millyard . The 'Flying Millyard ' TH-cam him . That nutter does this regularly but makes those cuts with a hacksaw. Truly remarkable.
I know him, not following regularly, but incredible projects indeed
Straight 8 needed, this sounds like a V6 to me
this is some le dan level engineering
Yep hill climber really like this engine i see lotus with v8 hayabusa engine (well only head)
Gotta do a busa v-10 now
Cheers 👍💪✌

@@blindobserver Aaa, mea culpa. It should be there now
Soooo in theory one could create a 3.3 Liter screamer V10 if they wanted 😎
Milyen rezonanciák alakulnak ki egy ilyen forgattyúsműben ?
Call it cha cha cha engine as it fires like 1-2-cha-cha-cha
I am here for all the Kung Fu noises
Why?.......If it stays water & oil tight? Cannot see how though. Which is why Millyard only cuts & shuts air cooled motors. Some very clever folk seem to have too much kit & time on their hands.....Pragmatism makes the REAL world keep rotating....Thanks for searching this one out anyway. Great channel.
I would love to have a hayabusa v8 in my bmw 2002.
What if it was a I6 o0o or wonder if in future gr yaris I3 double to I6 o0o
The only logical next step is to make it into a v10 now xD
I love 5 cylinders
Didn't some company already manufacture a V8 busa style engine?
The one thing Suzuki made that was actually good… haha
He could make a V10 Hayabusa engine.
Nobody is questioning the credibility of this engine. It makes perfect sense. 👍
I've read some comments. I like it as well
Might be good in a Caterham.
Another crazy case of "why not?" engineering.
No, it's not.
can be done with your average tools at home
Should be used in F1.
I'll go with the V-8!!!👍
The price will come down. Maybe aV-10, or a V-12!!!!! Hayabusa!!!! 👍
(Whole lot of likes)
Here comes the busa f1 v10 i guess

V8 engine based on I4 Hayabusa? Check.
I5 engine based on I4 Hayabusa? Check.
I wonder what's next? V16 anyone?
Why not a Inline6 this engine already has a bigger bore than the old Nissan RB20DET
now make a v10 out of it and then turbos!!!11!!!1
Such an amazing engine. How about the V8 in the Arial Atom 500?!
I definitely didn't know about the 5 cylinder! Great content!!!
Why does your thumbnail keep changing?
A/B testing. Very useful tool to determine the best performing thumbnail. The first 24-48 hours are the most important for the video and it helps me pick the best thumbnail.
Le Dan! Le Dan! Le Dan!
I think V8 is the best idea, because the top of the engine can be used stock
It could not be. The crankshaft has to be longer to deal with 8 crankpins. If you were to use master crank and pin-jointed second rod, the RPM would be limited due to oiling issues.
@@Turnipstalk You are right, i missed it
No, do a V10 busa!
Why not turn it into an inline 6
