Just noticed that before reading your comment. Don't know if it was intentional acting but for a millisecond I thought he was going to cry. I love Jack so much. But still can't tell on stuff like that. He is an immensely emotional artist, but also very intentional in the way they present themselves (which I DO NOT think is disingenuous whatsoever, btw). Hard for me to tell when his quirky ideas were acted out intentionally or when stuff just came through from the process.

I’ll always remember watching them at Glastonbury in 2002 and I knew none of their songs but when they played this I just loved it right away and forever since and forever to come.
The camera quality almost looks like an aesthetic at this point😂

It isn't the "camera quality" you are referring to (this would have been recorded on HD capable cameras - AFAIA studio segments on SNL were recorded using Sony BVP-700's), it's the 4:3 aspect ratio, as when this was recorded most people's TV were formatted to 4:3, so of course in an age where most of us own/view with TV's, computer monitors, phones, etc. that display in 16:9, 19:5 and 21:9, 4:3 stands out.
@@merlinmediagroup I know, it's just easier to understand for most people when it's referred to as camera quality😂 I love how it's flipped now and some people have 8k TVs when there's pretty much no 8k content to watch and barely any 4k content on television. Most of the super high quality content is TH-camrs with $100,000 cameras😂

This is the song that plays in a parent’s head when you watch your child take its first step into kindergarten… and there’s nostalgia, apprehension, excitement, hopefulness, and some heartbreak, yes, to have watch your child ‘grow up’.
Perhaps about the most quiet song ever played on snl by a musical guest. The Stripes were the first 'new' band I ever liked. I was a freshman in high school when their debut came out and loved WBC.
Smiling in The Shire...The first time I heard this song was in the movie "Napoleon Dynamite"...It was a sweet song then and now...Love it...

This song captures the innocence of childhood so well. The first 10 years of my life seemed to last for 100 years. The last 30 years have happened in the blink of an eye.

I’ll never forget the first time I heard this. I was playing the CD in my car..I actually had to pull to the side of the road and listen….captures childhood innocence incredibly.
I remember the first time I heard it too....out riding my bike and it randomly came up on my play list.....I had to stop and listen again. It brought tears to my eyes!!!!!
This is the first song I taught my daughter to play on guitar. Jack is one of the greatest artists of my lifetime.

@@ar2042 Actually, he only hosted once. Season 28 in 2002. His other two appearances were guest roles in Seasons 33 and 34 in 2008. Steve Carrell and Ben Affleck hosted those shows. And who cares what party Lorne supports. They make fun of everyone regardless of party.

Edit: Since we are doing fun facts...I lived 30 seconds away from Memphis Smoke, where Meg worked and Jack played open mics in downtown Royal Oak, MI. Dr. Jack Kevorkian also lived there but never ran into each other unfortunately. (Jack White that is) I did see the other.

I was born and raised in Royal Oak. I know exactly where Memphis Smoke was located at. I also Dr. Jack once at City Hall but never White Stripes. Loved their music.

@@CronoXpono Not really, especially if they had already written and formulated/drafted many of the songs prior (according to Wikipedia they had - "The band rehearsed for one week and began recording at Easley-McCain Recording, in Memphis, Tennessee in February 2001").

Is it jus me or does anyone else notice the very modest and humbleness of Jack when the songs ends, and Meg seems to notice and puts her head down as if knowling nodding to his reaction ? Maybe the songs is a little about them , maybe not ,But there seemed to be a sweet innocent emotion at the end .
