@@BigTex65 well traditionally we only wore bates. But they are low cost with good longevity, but not as comfortable. As far as boots go. I 100% agree with him. Just make sure if you buy them you got with a high top. Low tops give 0 support, especially in law enforcement

I'm in law enforcement as a full-time career as well and also work as a Reserve so have to buy my own equipment for that guy which gets expensive for out of pocket. I really agree with the footwear. You get what you pay for. Also liked the vest as my department buys us cheap ones that are only rated level 2. Really like your videos and show them to friends. Be safe brother

Currently getting ready to join the academy and would like to have best equipment possible to best serve my community. I am excited for all of this equipment as I am currently finishing up college and have a lot of student loans to pay off. Any money I save on equipment would help tremendously.
Also in Canada (being Canadian here) it's actually illegal for civillians to own body armour, and the holster would probably raise a bunch of questions.

I don't know if you have to be a police officer to enter. I am participating in a crime prevention crime reduction and crime Combatting effort locally in Aurora Illinois. I am aspiring to recruit others. Officer Ochoa, Sullivan, Myer, Briggs, Avila,, Bryan,Miller, Goehring and others have seen me in my tactical vest (I have two) or duty belt gear and have cleared me to use and or possess the items. I have had an extremely brief time as a Security officer in Hammond,Indiana and I almost gave up permanently. I like the boots!
I was curious about the same thing... That's why I'm most interested in the boots, I'm on my feet all day and my job as school maintenance, doesn't allow weapons on property so outside of stopping to help the wrong person at the wrong time, the rest seems a bit unreasonable for me at the moment. Although I've always wanted to be a cop, but for my jurisdiction doesn't allow more than 5 experimental uses of marijuana... Until that changes...

I would appreciate the vest greatly. I’m a cop in a rural Arkansas community where equipment costs impose a great deal of hardship on our police department. We are a department of 3 certified officers serving a town of 2,000 people. When I transferred to this agency from my local Sheriff’s office, I inherited a vest carrier that is ill fitting and not greatly suited to me. I first subscribed to the channel shortly before I went through the Police academy and I have regarded your input and recommendations very highly. Update. Did not have super glue so I threw some duct tape in the hole and colored it black with a sharpie. Modern problems require modern solutions. Glad i didn't get any OC in the hole yesterday. Guys, don't get OCd. Today is STOPS so I'm definitely getting my feet wet 🙄

@@patrioticway794 Another great option is the Streamlight TLR-7. I bought one for my P-10C which is very similar in size to the G19 and it's a hell of a light in a very small format and fits flush with the slide.
I also have two holsters, but could always use a better one. I was dressed so professionally in tactical gear officers in Hammond thought I was an off duty police officer. I assisted two officers in around 2013 in escorting three gang banger types from the formerly open Jefferson Hotel. I have been studying military science, interdisciplinary engineering, martial arts martial science and self defense for 33 plus years since I was 12-13 years old !

Everything else, gun and all other gear is personally bought. This video is very informative and very helpful. However I'm wondering how different itll be for my case. Definetly for the most part everything seems like it would be great like the vest, holster and light. Heres my twist. I don't want to be a street cop. I want to be a "woods cop" aka conservation officer. I've been in Fire/EMS for the past 5 years (mostly as an explorer) so 511 boots have served me well enough. Getting ready to start the process of becoming a conservation officer I've been thinking about equipment I might need to get and what will suit my needs the best. Have to keep in mind as a conservation officer you're in the woods all the time, you're on the lake all the time, you're at river banks all the time etc checking fishing licenses. You can be on boats, atvs, snowmobiles, or on foot hiking trails for missing hikers. It just varies so much. Any ideas on boots that would be best but anything else that might be helpful? Any gear to carry that a street cop might not carry or something a street cop carries that a conservation officer might not carry?
Well, it's good to know I used most of the gear you have... Streamlight LED HL, Safariland holster, exterior plate carrier from Safelife with a Safeguard Kevlar vest underneath. I have a Streamlight HL weapon light on my Glock 22 Gen 4 40 cal. Although I have retired, I must say... this is good stuff. Thanks for sharing...

I own a Stinger LED and the Stinger HD. I’ve broken both of them and Streamlight fixes it! They’re amazing! I do have the piggyback for both so I have extra batteries and they last like crazy. This is one light that everyone should own!

Swore into a village department on the 18th which provides almost no equipment. We share vests with officers on other shifts. The Safe Life vest would be a great tool to start my career.
I love my Danner Acadia boots, the only issue with them is that the Vibram Sole only lasts 6 - 7 months before I need to have them resoled. Do yourselves a favor and buy a second pair to rotate.

Alright, I must ask. What exactly do department’s cover (cost wise)? I realize it depends on the department, size etc. Do they cover your gun? Do they allow you to choose your own gun? A certain percentage? Are there random limitations in gear?

I'm currently a Correctional Officer and have worn my Danners for a year. They have held up tremendously and the only wear I have seen is on the soles like any other shoe. Very sturdy, very useful. Never had any complaints after even 13 hour shifts. I think my department should switch to Danners as standard issue.
The boots look like they are heavy duty. All the standing and walking around every where, you want to make sure the feet are taken care of! Good stuff!👍🏼
In my explorer post we use a Safari Land holster for our blue guns which combines the ALS and SLS systems, so it has both the internal lock and the hood, which with practice you can still draw and be on target in less than a second. I can attest that if you dont know how to use it, there is no way you're getting the gun out of it. I absolutely love it. They are a bit pricey at about $115 depending on where you buy it, but it is by far, the best holster out there

You didn’t mention the new ALS holsters come with hood guards as well. So you have the double locking feature with both the benefits. They take no extra time at all to draw. My department has them compulsory.
Day 13: we have started to clear out the old student housing on campus to get ready for the next one, I found a trap door in one of the houses and wanted to check it out. One problem, no light. It would be really cool to see if anyone had left something behind down there but it was too dark.

The Stinger HL would be awesome. I’ve used so many cheap walmart lights including mag lights and none seem to live up to the abuse.

Day 69, still commenting, I fantasize about the vest to avoid thinking about being at work
I'm really interested in the Safelife Body armor and the Surefire 300 light. My department is very "unique" and we had to buy ALL our own duty gear including firearms. Much respect for you doing this for your subscribers.

Does your department not provide the officers these products ? Why should you spend your money on it ?

We have to initially pay for gear but at least my department re inburses us with some to spare
We pay for it all except a small uniform allowance yearly which is enough for a uniform or 2.
@@wk2466 we buy our gear, belts, cuffs etc., and after a month on the job they give us 2.5 k. most guys have extra cash left over too LOL
@@donaldtrump5287 must be nice. most PDs here are small. 130ish in my county alone. So we don't get much. Starting out I had to pay for everything but vest and 3 long/3 short shits and 3 pants. Everything else, gun and all other gear is personally bought. I used GI Bill to put myself through academy so much different than applying to a big city department and getting put through the academy.

Honestly more excited thinking about how the first year of use on the flashlight, boots, and vest is going to look like. Getting quality gear allows you to stay focused on the software and not worry about the hardware.

This video is very informative and very helpful. However I'm wondering how different itll be for my case. Definetly for the most part everything seems like it would be great like the vest, holster and light. Heres my twist. I don't want to be a street cop. I want to be a "woods cop" aka conservation officer. I've been in Fire/EMS for the past 5 years (mostly as an explorer) so 511 boots have served me well enough. Getting ready to start the process of becoming a conservation officer I've been thinking about equipment I might need to get and what will suit my needs the best. Have to keep in mind as a conservation officer you're in the woods all the time, you're on the lake all the time, you're at river banks all the time etc checking fishing licenses. You can be on boats, atvs, snowmobiles, or on foot hiking trails for missing hikers. It just varies so much. Any ideas on boots that would be best but anything else that might be helpful? Any gear to carry that a street cop might not carry or something a street cop carries that a conservation officer might not carry?
Well, it's good to know I used most of the gear you have... Streamlight LED HL, Safariland holster, exterior plate carrier from Safelife with a Safeguard Kevlar vest underneath. I have a Streamlight HL weapon light on my Glock 22 Gen 4 40 cal. Although I have retired, I must say... this is good stuff. Thanks for sharing...
I have a steamlight rifle light. GREAT product. Crazy how bright it is. Its like you turned my house lights wherever I point it.
This was a great idea on a video. I'm mostly excited about the surefire 300.
I would also like to see another video on more gear you'd recommend. Maybe like rifle slings, sights, knives, off duty gear, handcuffs etc.

Only my second time commenting however just finishing my fto and unfortunately my agency is rather small and gave me a hammy down vest and I’m also planning a wedding so having that safelite defense vest would be absolutely amazing so I can always make sure I have the best of the best. I own a Stinger LED and the Stinger HD. I’ve broken both of them and Streamlight fixes it! They’re amazing! I do have the piggyback for both so I have extra batteries and they last like crazy. This is one light that everyone should own!
I like that you are giving away two sources of light. You would not want to pull out your gun/surefire weapon light to write info down. End up scaring everyone!

Hey Tommy stopping by enjoying my birthday weekend, but I’d be most excited for those duty boots. My Rocky’s are starting to get really worn out.
Swore into a village department on the 18th which provides almost no equipment. We share vests with officers on other shifts. The Safe Life vest would be a great tool to start my career.

I love my Danner Acadia boots, the only issue with them is that the Vibram Sole only lasts 6 - 7 months before I need to have them resoled. Do yourselves a favor and buy a second pair to rotate.
Just got armed guard status and could use anything. I already have boots from 511. Your channel is very educational for me and appreciate your expertise. The vest is so awesome! I am going to eventually get all items you referenced. Thank you for sharing with us your knowledge to the proper things to buy without getting ripped off or miss guided.

The vest! Seeing the proof is a lot more comforting then just reading a manufacturers claims in a pamphlet.

What exactly do department’s cover (cost wise)? I realize it depends on the department, size etc. Do they cover your gun? Do they allow you to choose your own gun? A certain percentage? Are there random limitations in gear?

I'm currently a Correctional Officer and have worn my Danners for a year. They have held up tremendously and the only wear I have seen is on the soles like any other shoe. Very sturdy, very useful. Never had any complaints after even 13 hour shifts. I think my department should switch to Danners as standard issue.

The boots look like they are heavy duty. All the standing and walking around every where, you want to make sure the feet are taken care of! Good stuff!👍🏼
Hey Thanks for the Safe Life Defense recommendation, I will be getting it for armed security and I am starting school for criminal justice!
In my explorer post we use a Safari Land holster for our blue guns which combines the ALS and SLS systems, so it has both the internal lock and the hood, which with practice you can still draw and be on target in less than a second. I can attest that if you dont know how to use it, there is no way you're getting the gun out of it. I absolutely love it. They are a bit pricey at about $115 depending on where you buy it, but it is by far, the best holster out there
Day 16... Pretty excited as the end date is getting closer😁... Still looking forward the most to the body armor, but my flashlight just died on me last night, so that would be cool too😂
You didn’t mention the new ALS holsters come with hood guards as well. So you have the double locking feature with both the benefits. They take no extra time at all to draw. My department has them compulsory.

Day 13: we have started to clear out the old student housing on campus to get ready for the next one, I found a trap door in one of the houses and wanted to check it out. One problem, no light. It would be really cool to see if anyone had left something behind down there but it was too dark.
Thanks for the info. Just joined up myself and this was very helpful. What type of gloves are recommended? I used a couple of ( Oakley’s and 5.11) while in corrections before but they unstitch too easily
