Excellent videos, (only a couple left to watch) much appreciated. You don't sound like a Devon local - a touch of northern in there somewhere? Understand the use of dancing on the gears on my Deauville being the smallest and probably oldest bike in our group rides (Durham Advanced Motorcyclists - DAM).

Born and raced in the North East but as the advert says "I was made in the Royal Navy"
Went to school in Co Durham. Mind I left there mid 80's.
Thanks for the comments it's always nice to get feedback.

@@biker1k Thought I recognised the accent. Myself born in Bishop Auckland, used to be a "Star Rider" instructor there for a number of year. Moved on to Houghton le Spring.

Sounds like having my wife in the car😂 it is good to slow up every now and then and practice this sort of thing. I go out with a mate of mine sometimes and we pick at each others riding and it helps us not to get slack on our riding.

exeter rider 🤣 I assume your wife won’t be reading these comments.
I think I’ll do an observation/commentary ride (privately), watch it back, and see how many things I failed to mention. And if I actually failed to notice anything completely. I like to think I’m pretty good with road positioning, hazard perception etc but we all make mistakes. It’ll be a good way of sharpening the tools.

Your "About" tab invites suggestions so I hope that this is taken as a suggestion for improvement, which is the spirit in which it is offered.
Firstly my credentials: over 30 years in IAM, 10 years car Observer, 20+ years bike Observer. Currently Chief Observer with Manchester Group.
As you are offering these videos as examples of advanced riding and referencing IAM can I suggest that in future you do not promote riding with the wheels brushing the paint of a solid white line. Doing so means that your body and machine are straddling the line which rule 129 says that you MUST NOT do, therefore you are demonstrating an illegal manoeuvre.
I'm not claiming to be perfect and as with your comments about speed we all make small errors but I get the senes from this video and one where you follow Keith that this is a conscious decision. We have a duty of care to the riders that we influence and definitely should not be promoting anything that is unequivocally illegal.
Now that I've got that off my chest I have to praise your commentary or "spoken thoughts" as IAM Roadsmart now call it. I was never very good at it and certainly not as fluent as you. 👍

Certainly no offence taken. Thanks for your comments.
As an advanced motorist / rider we should all be looking at ways of improving our riding / driving every time we go out. I personally pick a topic and try to focus on that for that particular ride / drive. Nobody is perfect however with your comments re white lines I have always been taught /told that it's fine to use the white lines if it's safe to do so ie straightening out a corner etc provided the benefit outways any danger. Indeed I have a very good friend who is a police motorbike instructor with who I have discussed this and he agrees that it would have to be a pretty pedantic officer to pursue a prosecution if the manoeuvre is not reckless or endangers yourself or other road users. Obviously I would always give up ' position for vision' for approaching vehicles. An interesting point for certain.
I should also put a disclaimer on these videos that these are my thoughts and observations and are in no way endorsed by IAMS or ROSPA in anyway.
Thank you for your complimentary comments on my 'commentary' ride it is a skill that many find extremely difficult and if my demonstration can help associate members master this skill I am pleased to help.

@@biker1k Our Group have worked closely with Greater Manchester Police for many years. We trained their officers to deliver training to the public when they launched BikeSafe. We are now working with our fourth chief riding instructor (they keep retiring!). They explain this as, imaging that the solid white line is a six foot high brick wall, you would not / could not ride with your wheels against it. Another point that was made to me and our Chairman while riding with a previous Chief Instructor was to consider what impression you give to others, there are plenty of solid white lines where I could execute a safe overtake while "pinching" a few inches, if a cop saw it he may give me the benefit and not give me a ticket but we all know that it's not legal and it sends the wrong impression to Joe Public. If you ride with your wheels against the paint it is NOT legal because you ARE straddling the line. I have certain opinions about the "evils" of speed in excess of the limit but I'm never going to post an educational video, especially one where I'm claiming to demonstrate any advanced riding, that could be construed as endorsing speeding. We need to be seen as squeaky clean or someone with less knowledge, experience and or skill will think they can do it and get hurt or worse.
In reality how much difference would six inches of "restraint" have made to the journey? Sometimes advanced riding is about recognising when there is little benefit to be had and taking a more cautious approach instead. Moving away from the line and losing a couple of mph would have cost next to nothing and solid white lines systems are not the place we should be looking to maximise progress.
I'm sorry for ranting and if this was a Missenden Flyer video I would have said nothing because he is not claiming to be teaching advanced techniques, I just think that we need to hold ourselves to a higher standard. I hope this has provided food for thought and look forward to more videos in the future.
      All the best, Chris

@@MotorSportsFan46 thanks Chris you make a valid point.
It goes to show we can all benefit from a second opinion on our riding from time to time and get a different perpesctive. Thank you for your comments and I may even do a video on this very topic. Hope you keep watching

@@biker1k thanks for taking my comments so well. I will definitely keep watching.
I'm well known in IAM Roadsmart for not being shy about challenging people, I even got Amanda Smith on for an interview on my podcast, but not everyone responds well.
