SRV and Steve Vai both the best at their style of music. Nobody can mimic the way SRV is able to play from his soul.

Many can play the guitar well, but few can have the guitar as their lead vocalist.

He’s the only man to ever impregnate through the ear. No guitar has ever played a better Steve Vai. The one song I go to when I just want to feel again

Vai is a living legend and very important to everyone in the world especially the states cause hes from here
Thanks for your words and reverence if it wasn't for black American musicians vai couldn't have come about but thanks to that diverse pool he drew from he took it all another step forward

Love your Review of, Steve Vai! He IS Technical. He was taught by Joe Satriani (tech skills) and played with Fran Zappa (eccentric style). He has played for David Lee Roth (of Van Halen fame), developed Solo Performing. During the time, of this video, period he branched out, on his own Creating these Beauties!!

I went to the same high school as Steve on long island. He graduated quite a few years ahead of me but i was always proud of that fact. Go Carle Place Frogs! Haha

Vai is definitely One of the Greatest.

yes they are both great and you dont want to know whos the greatest of all time , we all love a guitarist more than an other one for our own personnal reasons. I do prefer Vai but i have nothing against people prefering Van Halen, Malsteem , Ray Vaughan, Satriani etc etc

The is no greatest. If you are only looking for the greatest, you miss out on the point on enjoying music. A smart man would simply enjoy both Vai and SRV. Nice reaction as always dude, cheers!
You are correct about him being more experimental, he definitely doesn't like to box himself in with certain styles and isn't afraid to do 'more wacky' compositions. His Passion and Warfare album got a lot of us into practising guitar more seriously.

Steve Vai is like the " Rickey Henderson - baseball " of the guitar. He knows how good he is and isn't afraid to show it. But at times can be also humble. If that makes sense 😜

Listening to guitarists for me is whatever what kind of mood I'm in. So many guitarists with distinguishable styles out there that you immediately know who they are. You nailed it on the head in this video when tried to analyze the best guitar player ever. There isn't one. Steve Vai is a master of what he plays as is Stevie Ray Vaughn in his style. They're nothing alike but so skilled in what they do. Yngwie Malmsteen is another master of guitar under the neo-classical style of playing. Sounds nothing like either of the aforementioned guys. Eddie Van Halen, easily identifiable by his style of guitar, again, sounds nothing like these guys mentioned. Depends on your particular listening mood of who and what you want to hear on any given day. Great review, I subbed and hit the bell.

I think both players are great on their own right. I've always thought of stevie ray vaughn as the steve vai of blues. Always pushing the guitar within his genre. BUT for me, if i had to choose one I would always choose STEVE VAI because overall I feel that his expression (for the most part) tends to resonate more with me and in terms of technicality (in terms of guitar technique and showmanship) VAI wins hands down (thought both are great guitarists on their own right).
I really think that the movement VAI makes when playing is not just for showmanship but because he gets so much into the music that he literally feels it all over and that showmanship is a direct result of it in part.
I also think that VAI's genius goes beyond the guitar if you actually research him he has a great knowledge of the orchestra and other aspects of music. Not everyone may not like him, but there's no denying that he is definitely one of the greats.

  • @roberttaylor8906

i'd say yes stylistic preference is subjective...however, i would argue that versatility and/or fluidity of phrasing and songwriting is objective. when i listen to stevie ray vaughn, almost all of his playing sounds like a variation on texas flood to me. steve vai's output is much more dynamic. that said, while steve vai is amazing and brilliant, i find that a lot of his stuff is pretty out there musically. it's brilliant, just not my style...tender surrender is an amazing song, i love that one.
personally i prefer buckethead to either of those guys. he's at least on par with steve vai in terms of raw technical ability and versatility, but stylistically i like a lot of buckethead's music. if you want to check him out i'd suggest "soothsayer" or "nottingham lace" as good places to start.

I think musical taste is subjective because it's based on a person's individual listening experience, and how a person creates and enlarges their own comfort zone by being to relate new experiences to what they have accepted in the past. There is an English guitarist who is pretty big on the guitar scene these days named Guthrie Govan. He actually has a Y.Tube lesson on how to play "Tender Surrender" note by note. Here is a solo that is supposed to represent a rainstorm passing overhead :

I do appreciate the technical prowess of Vai, but to me I much prefer musically impressive guitarists like Gilmour than shredders. I have never been a fan of shredding for its own sake. That is what I love about Nightwish and Emppu, we can see that he is capable of being technical, but that is not what the song calls for, so he always chooses the music over self-gratification.

I enjoyed this one, but he went too much into "shredding". There is no doubt that he is a very talented guitarist, but I do not know, this just did not tickle my fancy. I really liked the beginning. Sorry, to those who love him, just how I feel.
