A legendary anti war song by the Stones, maybe the best. The groove is so good that it almost conceals the tremendous songwriting and the meaning of the words. Merry Clayton does the damn thing on those backup vocals. Loved it! Thanks D! ❤
Famous (and true) Merry Clayton story: She was called in the middle of the night to do the chorus with the Stones and went to the studio 8 months pregnant and in curlers. Then, she did THAT! Unfortunately, she had a miscarriage shortly after, but has remained in the music scene and has her own amazing version of Gimme Shelter. Her latest album release was in 2021. She's still out there rockin'! Great reaction, Michael, as always. Happy Thanksgiving!
Antiwar song. BEST Stones tune from their BEST album. This got me through high school. The late 60s were amazing in their own way just as much as the early 70s.
Oh no... where's ur unicorn poster that says 'Believe In Yourself' on the psychiatrists couch..? I adore that poster, I have the same one. I'm a clinician- I have it up in my personal office. I still chuckle a little to myself every time I look at it- and it's been on the wall for years... 😆💀🃏
You're so thoughtful. I love listening to you express your thoughts and perceptions. Thank you. that voice crack in Merry Clayton's voice - or the TWO voice cracks - one after the other - gives me goosebumps all OVER - no matter how many times I've heard it. It's like the fabric of illusion rips - something is broken - and she's there confronting the horror. Unbelievable vocal.
Good to see you back & grooving to a song from my you; love the guitar & female back-up singer’s solo(I can never remember her name, but Lawd does she have a voice); hope you & your family have a joyous & safe Thanksgiving; take care, hugs & peace. 🥰🥰❤️❤️🤗🤗☮️☮️
There's a really kool story about how this was recorded. She was in L.A., pregnant, in her robe and hair curlers when she received the call. They weren't in the studio together.
Such a great song !!!🎶🎵🎤❤️❤️🔥🔥 WOW though, I didn’t know all of the lyrics either until now either!😢 I just knew that the music was so grooving fabulous!!🎵🎶
This was written in turbulent times back in the late 60s and yet fits perfectly today.
The great Merry Clayton singing back up! A sadly still timely song. They were responding to Vietnam and the Mylai Massacre.

Merry Clayton took us to church 🔥

One of my favorites along with Sympathy for the Devil and You Can't Always Get What You Want...

Same! And now that I've seen phrases from the lyrics, must dig into meaning

A very pregnant Merry Clayton laying down those killer vocals. I can tell you that singing like that while pregnant is difficult! Great song
You wanna talk about rock and roll. This is it. Greatest rock band ever...they really could be
As if this isn't as timely now as it was when it was originally. Can humankind ever put this in the past for real?
Was this about the Vietnam war?
It is sad to hear this and it be so topical.
