Big dairies are contracted right with the packers and weekly they have cattle trailers picking them up and shipping them straight to Green Bay or long prairie mn
Any thoughts or plans to sell some beef direct to consumer to keep more $$$$ for yourselves. After Cari retires from teaching, she could be in charge of a website to sell meat & you could have a building with lots of freezer’s. You also could take beef to processor &customers could buy beef by 1/4, 1/2, or whole &pay you direct plus they pay processor
He's selling cows......... Nobody is buying 15 year old cows to get steak. These cows are going to be low grade beef or dog food. Cow calf producers sell calves to stockers or culled cows that aren't producing. He could definitely save a few steers and raise some grass fed beef to sell direct to consumer......... But every single rancher would be doing that if there was a market for it......... There just isn't....... He is in rural South Dakota.......... Cattle outnumber people 1000 to 1. There isn't a person in a 200 mile radius that doesn't have a direct connection to someone who raises cattle. Are you going to pay $1000+ to ship 2 pallets of refrigerated cargo to your house? LTL shipping for refrigerated cargo is expensive.
Matt, I really enjoy your videos, your humor and your cowboy poetry. But there is one thing I caught in this video that concerns me a little! You called that Holstein cow "purty"!! I figure you just fell for them big brown eyes and long lashes!😂😂😂
In New Zealand we send the culls to the freezing works, ( to be killed) then we get paid on the dead weight Or if we sell at the yards, they will be bought by works buyers, on live weight, but they work together the buyers from different companies, and rip us off, it should be illegal, but apparently it isnt
Bad cows are just that Bad cows a they need to go 👍A Matt bought several cows last year to replace culls .. Heifers are a long wait to get a calf to sale a They can have trouble calving and some will just turn out bad …
The prices are insane, and sorry to say, but price higher by almost double in 6 years, can not continue. The consumers are not getting the increase in wages anywhere near that.
Matt, another great video of a rancher’s life in this ever changing world!
Thank you for sharing your experiences with us ❣️👍🏻🫡
Glad cows did great 👍 enjoyed the sale barn 👍glad to hear the barn is getting ready for build
