    Andy, you sure do have a knack for conveying your knowledge, your willingness to share each skill, time it takes, part prices , repair /replace .. some cuss words , whilst also operating everything to an owners standard. And i seriously love the countryside you show us!! Zach Johnson, Chet Larson, Andy Hourigan, Trevor Bales. You lads are the champions of American Farmers to the world !

    Andy, at the 44 minute mark when you are planting the upper field at the old McVoy farm those are most likely Rez dogs. The tenants in Uncle James' old house have 3 huskies, they wander off sometimes, but I would have heard about any escape as I always help track them. There is a pack of coyotes and feral dogs that travel between the Onondaga Nation and my swamp. I hear them howling at night after they make a kill. They came after me once, 3 of them, but my German Shephard and my Great Dane at the time chased them off. A few of my hunters have killed some of them, but there are dozens.

    All the damn electrical connections burn up so much time. We've got a freightliner with a series 60 Detroit in it. One harness goes through the valve cover for the injectors and the Jake brake. Periodically engine oil will leak through the rocker box bulkhead connector and engine oil will get all over the pins inside that plug. That engine will spit sputter and actually backfire so violently you would swear the thing is gonna blow up or did blow up. I Unplug that thing spray some contact cleaner, you're good for another hundred thousand miles. The moral of my story you can get a lot of strange symptoms from a poor connection lol. Awesome video Andy I hope things are going well now

    Back in the late '60's when I ran main frame computer systems we called the process of "tapping" IC boards with a suspect faulty diode - "Applying Mechanical Margins".
    Is it not unusual Andy to have more than 1 pressure sensor acting up at the same time? Could the fault lie with control module that initiates the error code?
    Is there an OBD tool you can run to check in more detail what errors are being generated?

    With all of the work that you did on the planter, does it give you a better crop than an older mechanical planter? I know that it gives a more even crop, but do you get a better payback from the new planter

    • @kurtkriener3583
      @kurtkriener3583 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The payback comes from a more uniform emergence, which translates to more uniform ear size. With electric drive meters you are also able to have individual row shutoffs, which saves seed, an no double planting. In Andy’s case where field size average is 10-15 acres that leaves a lot of off running rows, double plant opportunities etc. where the shut offs do things automatically it’s a huge time saver vs having to get out an turn off individual rows.

    • @larrycurts710

    Andy, near the end of the vid, when the cam showed the planter track, it seemed to be wandering quite a lot. The steering wheel is moving a lot too. I worked in automation for 30 years. The FJ unit should have PID parameters in it that can be changed. PID stands for, Proportional, Integral, and Derivative. These are the numbers that tell the steering unit how to react to the GPS. Adjusting those numbers should tighten up the corrections made. If they are set right, the steering wheel should never hardly move. Proportional is how MUCH it reacts, Intregal is how OFTEN it reacts, Derivative is how often it checks for error. Talk to the dealer about this. With the right PID, I'd have those rows so strait you could shoot a laser beam from one end to the other. Lol.

    • @raycollington4310
      @raycollington4310 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good reply. Would be interesting to see the unit from a way away. The steering inputs seemed to generate a lot of over correction. You wouldn't drive like that, inputs would need to be a lot less, lowering correction and everything calmer. This should be configurable. Andy did mention a different receiver option. Here I go again as an armchair expert.

    • @FarmingFixingFabricating
      @FarmingFixingFabricating  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it will. You have to create a field name profile . When you record your track you name it and save it then when you re enter that field go to the correct field name profile and pick the track that you had named and you’ll be all set.

    The computer program probably needs to be reworked. It might be programmed with a very short time interval as it reads the pressure. As the planter travels over rough ground, the pressure has to go up and down some and the computer can read in micro seconds when it probably should be using a longer time interval.

      @@mannsjm Your comment based upon fact. In fact 300 bushel corn was always possible but the mechanical planter expectations were mostly in the sub-150 range, fertilizer dependent of course. Electro/hydraulic planters, not just deere, often report 300+ bushel yields in portions of the farm's best ground (soil)

    Between you and Zac the millenial farmer you guys have spent more time playing with sensors than seeding time. I'd definitely be using dielectric grease on then shit automotive plugs Deere uses, I've had my share of problems with them since 2005 when they started using them.
