    For anyone who doesn't think that was a great run from Craig - watch again at the way he moves out off the bend. He kisses lane 3! He went sideways like he was dodging a shopping trolley. Superb run.

      Also when he began to kick: crept through in lane one to get a top 5 spot, then moved over to the outside to avoid traffic and won the race.

    Engels can kick, he finally found his perfect race.
    More on Engels, these are some of his splits:
    200: 27.4
    300: 41.7
    400: 56.3
    600: 1:25.4
    700: 1:39.8
    800: 1:54.6
    1000: 2:24.0 or 2:24.1
    1100: 2:38.7
    1200: 2:53.1
    1400: 3:20.2 or 3:20.3.

      the interesting thing to me about this race is that engels didn't even look like he was kicking all-out. He looked like he was just trying to get the win by a little bit, I bet if he went all out on that last 100m instead of being conservative we would have seen a 3:32... the Olympic trials this year are going to be something else man

    • @philomenaakpanaadie2015
      @philomenaakpanaadie2015 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@oracle8048 this might sound crazy, but engels has the potential to break 3:30. Don't want to critique this race though. Who have you got for the U.S. Olympic 1500m team? I have Engels, Hocker and Teare (if Teare's running the 1500).

    Coming in to this race, according to the commentators, Charlie Grice was annoyed because he was not being mentioned in the build up publicity, and low and behold even the onscreen results at the end off the race miss him off!

    How did you fail to track Hobbs Kessler in this race or note the physicality of the race for both Engels and Kessler? I watched it several times. The video should have kept the overhead shot when Engels jumped out from boxed position where there was no room, the final stretch camera angle completely missed the action

    • @tarponmonkey39
      @tarponmonkey39 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Portland Track Festival is a community track meet. This isn't the Diamond League. I'm actually impressed with the quality of the content considering they are doing this with a small budget and I'm sure a lot of sweat equity from the organizers.

      Commentators rightfully focused on the crazy last sprint for Engels as he ran a PB to win. Glad you watched it several times. Easy to critique others that had to do it live.

    • @kenfromphilly752
      @kenfromphilly752 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lloydpeterman Yes I had to watch it several times to try and imagine how Engels got out of that tight boxed in position off the turn since the front camera angle couldn't show it (like the drone shot overhead would have), and that's how I tend to watch most 800/1500 competitive races (and cycling stage finishes). My personal preference doesn't diminish that there were two sets of eyes and voices on this race....

      @@allaboutthatrace841 Hobbs is 18 (18 yrs., 75 days as of May 29th). Jacob ran 3:30.16 at Monte Carlo at age 18 (18 yrs., 289 days as of July 5, 2019). He also ran 3:31.18 at age 17 (17 yrs., 304 days), also at Monte Carlo. This in no way distracts from Kessler's great performance at Portland. If he continues to compete this year, he may PR again. Time will tell whether he can consistently run at Jakob's level, but he's as good a middle distance high school talent we've seen in the U.S. since Jim Ryun.

      No kidding. Quite a contrast with the experienced commentators who called Webb's HS record race. They kept the viewers informed of Webb's position the whole race. The two calling this race didn't seem to even remember Kessler was in the race until the runners were starting to cool down. Not the most perceptive duo.
