I had one when as a kid.
My father bought dozens to sell in Brazil São Paulo. I remember to see at least fifty of them in our table home in their original boxes

The Holy Grail of Corgi Toys . Not everybody gets to experience it ! Despite the manufacture of around five million units , nothing beats the first issue , which remains one of the most iconic vehicles modelled . Lucky find !

I had one of these as a boy and together with the Aston Martin DB5 and Man from Uncle car was a big favourite. There was also a smaller corgi junior version which I think had a cruder version of the flame exhaust. This is an amazing find and in such perfect condition for reasons you explain clearly. Thanks

You had the same three cars as me! Lol. I think Ilya Kuryakin or Napoleon Solo popped in and out of the window as it moved forward to shoot at the bad guys ahead! The Aston was James Bond’s of course with the front machine guns and pop-up bullet-proof screen at the back :) Not sure if it had the ejector seat or if Im making that up! Hahaha. How about Chitt Chitty Bang Bang with its pop out red wings? Did you have that too? Lol

I am surprised that nobody in the family wanted to purchase it, however if there is no emotional attachment to it or the Batman series itself, I may understand why. If my recollection serves me properly, there were several different versions of that Batmobile, whereas the early versions the flame did not move in and out, nor did the Batmobile come with the boat hitch, again if I remember correctly, it was the later years that kept adding new features to the toy, there was even one Batmobile that came out with fatter wider tires and even one with orange tires and one version with only chrome rims, why? I don’t truly know. I preferred The original version with the bat hub emblem on the rims.

Based on the tail fins, I would say it's a first edition. The first three releases were _almost_ identical, but the first issue had distinctive fins.

I spent weeks in 1967 looking into a local shop, at that same model car... Hoping to save my pocket money of one shilling and three penny's a week so l could get it... It was £1, one shilling and six penny's.... I never got it in the end, but to this day l still remember leaning on the shop glass window looking in at it.... And dreaming of having. :)

I remember a kid in school had one of these (I think this was the mid 70's so maybe it was a later model version) I thought it was so amazing. Later, I asked my mom if she would buy me a Batmobile. One day she came home with a plastic batmobile that did nothing and looked cheap. I smiled and pretended I like it, thanked her and that was that.

I had this exact toy when I was a young lad. It was my favorite above all, and I would play with it constantly. Always kept my eye out for one, but at my age I wouldn't play with it, just keep it in a viewing case..lol Be Careful of the antenna, they always seem to be the first thing to break. Lost the rockets and I would always use thick toothpicks.

Noticed the reference to the TV 21 comic as well on the slip of paper. All these toys like Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 were very popular in the 60's when I was nobut a nipper! 😄

My grandmother brought me one from England in '71 when I was 7 or 6yrs old. I worshipped it for years then reluctantly gave it away. When I was 18. For me just looking at it is pretty much a trip in a time-machine to see those details. It had great suspension and Robin kept falling out when I played with it. 💔👍

When I was a child we visited England in summer of 1968. I remember a few things when I was 7.5 yo. Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and passing by a newspaper store in London and seeing in the window probably what you have right there! It was singed in mind right there and then! 50 years ago this summer! Oh how I wished to have that Batmobile! This is exactly why out of all matchbox cars, I looked up this one!

Not a 1966 original as they were matt black only and version 1 had an opaque aerial with silver beacon cage. 1966 version 2 had a silver aerial. 1967-72: Silver beacon cage was continued on gloss black model from 1967-70 then changed to gold coloured cage 1970-72. All models were then gold cage except purple canopy model which seems to have retained the silver cage. Chain cutter slot was short on the 66 versions and later models can have mid cut or long cut up to the moIding line on the nose scoop, Also 1966 issue came with red missiles only but some say yellow too but this is not confirmed. I personally, would date this to an early 1970 version 2 as it appears to have a gold cage and it has a long chain cutter slot.

when I was about 7 yrs old in 1966, I asked Santa for one, but Santa passed this on to my Gran, who misread my Writing and did not understand what I was asking for, so on Xmas morning I got a Cicket Bat. Still confused nearly sixty years later. 😀

  • @ollieox9181
    @ollieox9181 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Pretty cool. But I don't think that's an actual, original, 1966 version. The reason being, as I understand it, the 1966 had a matte black paint. This one looks like a glossy paint.
I think this one was the next iteration from the 1966. The versions after that had a trailer hitch for the Batboat.
But, hey, I'm no expert and might be wrong. More power to you.

I had one in 1966! It was a fantastic toy. The thing that you weren't sure of is the red flame exhaust in the back. When the Batmobile rolls forward there is a linkage with the back axle to make the red flame move in and out. It was too cool. I suppose these days the kids would say that it was "sick."

For those of you interested, they do make excellent looking reproduction boxes and even reproduction Batmobile’s in that series look. As for pricing? Only a true collector, would pay a hefty price for truly an original, I’ve learned when you pay a lot of money for a collectible, it’s not as easy to sell later on, because the pricing is determined on what somebody’s really willing to pay for it, typically add an auction, Which includes auction fees and shipping fees.

If it helps, there should have been a cardboard ring inside the box which protected the screens, and a white inner cardboard support to stop the box collapsing, so if your relative left them near but outside of the box dont bin them! Also, the instructions sealed along with the badge should also contain an entire sprue of rockets, if it hasnt been opened that is! If there arent any, he may have re-sealed it. Lovely video and car too, hope this info is of some help to you.

Congratulations on the find. That's worth a pretty penny since it has the original box and all the inserts! I had the same 1966 original version when I was 9. I rediscovered it in my dad's house after he passed away. I don't remember if I got it for Christmas in '66 or if I bought it myself. After the abuse of at least two generations of kids it's pretty battered and bruised. The Batman is missing as well as one of the back wheels and the tyre from the remaining back wheel. The front "pods" of the windscreen are broken and the suspension is duff. I'm going to restoring it. I've found a couple of sites that sell replacement reproduction parts - both in Australia for some reason... They even have reproductions of the original box.
