Really enjoyed meeting you guys on the Saturday of this event! My son actually opened up and talked to Farmtruck which he was very shy with all the other racers. Probably don't remember him with all the people that were there but he was the kid that wants to be a Police Officer. It was really cool that you gave him your full attention and just how you interacted with him with everything going on! Just wanted to let you know what that meant to him and for me to get to watch it happen with someone I admire! Thank you sir!!!
Also good to see you guys still having fun doing what you do! All the other racers seem to be working and yall seem to be having the time of your lives still!! Thanks again for an AWESOME experience!!

That is a cool track I can't believe the stands are still covered. I went there back in the 70s to a big motorcycle drag racing event, the cool thing they had was a chevy 327 sunk into the track in the staging lanes with a big roller drum used to Start top fuel and funny cars, they would push the cars on the roller and spin it on the back tires to start them.

I have seen a number of history tracks shut down here in Northern California. The San Jose Speedway for example. It opened in 1946 as a 1/4 mile dirt oval, and changed numerous times over the years, to an asphalt track, and to a 1/4 mile 1/2 mile combination. Housing developments sprang up all around it, then due to dust and noise complaints it was shut down in 1999. Our enduro team had the pleasure of running in the very last race there before it shut down.
Then there was Altamont Raceway Park, opened in 1966. Other than some great racing, it is most notable for the 1969 free concert that was held there. A black audience member pulled a pistol out and aimed it at Mick Jagger. Track promotor Dick Carter thought it was a good idea to hire Hells Angels for security and pay them with beer. An Angel stabbed the gun toting audience member in the neck with a knife and killed him, saving Mick Jagger's life. Some guy bought the property right next door to the track and built a house on a hill as close to the track as was possible. Then complained about the noise and got the track shut down in 2008. That guy received a lot of death threats.
Sears Point Raceway opened in 1968. It went through quite a few name changes over the years including Infineon Raceway. People built houses around it then complained about the noise. They must have some good lawyers because the track is still there and is now called Sonoma Raceway.
Here's a photo of Dick Carter at Altamont Raceway Park that I took in 2005. He was one of the test drivers for the 1965 Ford Mustang. And designer of the 40th Anniversary model 2005 Mustang DCF350 and DCF500 (which there were only 50 made.) I also took photos of his DCF500 that day but don't know off hand where those photos are.
