Even Sidious has encouraged Darth Vader to be emotional through manipulation and other grooming techniques. Unfortunately, despite how powerful he may be, Vader's source of strength, his emotional nature, is ironically also his greatest weakness.

      @@0xdamian595 The dark side isn't about being emotionally charged nor letting ur emotions be rampant anymore than the light side is about having no emotions or completely controlling your emotions. The dark side is about channeling negative emotions into power. It's not about channeling any emotion or else the Dark side could just as easily be about how cute baby Yoda is. As for the Clone Wars and pretty much every single piece of Star Wars media it wasn't about Anakin's emotional nature being the reason why he turned to the dark side. It was his arrogance, headstrong stubbornness mixed in with the fact that he was unable to let go of his attachments that lead him to the dark side.

      This is not the editor’s fault. As you see here, an edit fixed this scene. Someone wrote that scene and someone approved it, shot it, and added vfx to it. They all followed the script. The original editor worked with what they were provided and edited based off the script.
      That said, a movie is made three times, first in writing, then shooting, then editing. They shoulda realized what they wrote and shot wasn’t working and cut it down to what we saw here.

      Tbf, this scene did play into the overarching theme of the show and this particular episode in general by showing Vader is still blinded by his hate. It was a nice callback to the flashback in this very episode and his characterization in AotC and RotS.
      The only character this edit really benefits is Reeva since she had a much better chance at defeating Vader while he was distracted instead of taking a swing at him after the transport was gone.

    When first watching this I was SO confused why Reva took so long to sneak attack Vader. She waited until AFTER the ship took off, when he was no longer distracted. She waited too long and missed her opportunity. Yeah, the entire episode focused on Anakin's need to win and ability to be blinded by rage (via flashbacks), but still. I thought the decoy ship was cool, and showed that Obi-Wan is still capable of outsmarting his enemies, but there had to have been a way for the decoy ship and Reva attacking on time to both happen. The writing in this show was a bit sloppy and had a lot of potential, but tbh I still enjoyed it nonetheless.

If they'd tweaked her character in the scenes just before this, they could also have leant into the idea that she was afraid to reveal herself too early in case it got her killed. Especially if she died here, her revealing herself here in this moment to save both Obi-Wan and all those refugees would have been a very nice character arc. This 'fix' only makes sense in the specific context of this clip. The whole premise is that Obi Wan realises they are hopeless to defeat the empire in any sort of combat or seige. The whole episode has flashbacks to him training with ankain for this specific moment. Obi Wan realises, because he knows ankain so well, that he can be tricked by blinding him with rage. He knows Vader is already angry and to see Obi Wan attempting to slip out of his grasp again would drive him mad, hence Vader getting fooled by the fake lift off. The entire flashback scene reflects this and even at the very end Obi Wan says something to Anakin (I forget what exact words) that explain the entire premise of the scene if people couldn't get it before.
    I think the editing on this is cool, but it annoys me when people say this scene makes no sense

      I mean, sure you point out the show’s reasoning for why the decoy tactic worked, but the presentation just makes Vader look like an idiot. Even while blinded by rage, he 1000% would have noticed the other ship starting up right next to where the decoy took off. This still offers a better take where as Obi-Wan knows his attempted escape would blind Anakin, his plan for Reva to turn against Vader would have a much better chance at catching Vader off guard, but Vader is allowed to still appear competent as he’s able to at least catch on last second and preserve his own life which was in eminent danger and would take precedence over his need to capture Obi-Wan in that moment. And if we’re to say “how would Obi-Wan know Reva would actually go through with it?” this can be answered with “hope” making this take work not only logically but also thematically.

    • @TheLoraxshadenough
      @TheLoraxshadenough 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You still get that theme in this version tho.
      Vader is blinded by his hatred of obi wan and his obsession to get to him that he doesn't sense reva preparing to strike him till she is ready to, and she is stopped by Vader who has to let Kenobi slip through his grasp yet again to deal with her betrayal. Vader is still portrayed as arrogant and fooled for being such a powerful force user yet not able to sense her approach him, or her internations to kill him till the very last second. On top of that we get to Vader not make the same mistake the grand inquisitor made, which could hint at Vader knowing of her transgression against the empire and planned to dispose of her later once he had Kenobi dealt with.
      Don't get me wrong the original scene is still a good scene, this version conveys the same message and theme while fitting just a tad better narratively.

    I disagree. The entire theme of the episode and the flashbacks was showing that anakins ambition and impulsivity is his undoing. Obi wan says to him in the flashback “your need for victory blinds you”. That was the point that once again he was blinded by a “sure thing” that he neglected to survey the scene and conserve his energy.

    I love this but I also love the original scene. This isn’t the Darth Vader we know from the OT. He’s not there yet, and showing him grabbing the wrong ship really captures that. It showed that he was still being blinded by his anger, and he was still growing to become the Darth Vader we know.

      Both are a problem, but I saw way more toxic positivity than negativity. If someone offers a fair criticism of the show they don't deserve to be called any type of "ist" or "phobe". We are losing track of how to speak to each other as people in general, and it's very concerning.
