What's Best For The Sand? Auto, 4H, 4L?

  • Today we take a trip to the beach to take a look at how different transfer case positions effect the cars ability to move in the sand. This video gives us a clear idea of what was best in this scenario, not all beaches are the same and you must gauge this for yourself, selecting appropriate settings for your car.

    Thanks for the video! When I drive in the desert (I live in Dubai) I always use 4h, sand mode, traction control off and 24psi.
    Was cool to see the difference among the different modes

    Low range 100%
    Unless it's hard packed sand
    Heaps higher transmission temps using high range in sand.
    Far easier on the tranny, and much more revvy, smash through the gears.
    Look at your transmission temps and then you will see 4 high isn't the right choice

      That's another good point I should have mentioned. Fine for short stretches, but certainly for longer distance, towing and deep sand, that's the way to go. Like I mentioned this beach I was on isn't very long and as you go further back from where I was it gets harder. But a great point.
