Lol I had a cousin who got married during his and his wife's lunch break from school they had like a 3 hour break between lunches and went courthouse got married and went back for their next class. Most of our family didn't even know til 5 days later at a different cousins wedding we noticed he was wearing a wedding band.

We went to get the appointment for a civil ceremony, and they had openings right then, so as the clerk said, "If you go down the stairs, past the cafeteria, the chapel's on the left. There's a big group waiting for the rest of their audience so go right ahead." It was THE BEST. Just us, the officiant, the official witness, and then when we came out this huge family of complete strangers applauding and congratulating us. My parents threw us a pool party with a fancy cake and a bunch of our friends. This year it was our fifteenth anniversary, and our first year as wife and wife instead of wife and husband.

I just moved to Australia this year! I'm American and my fiance is Aussie, we were together for two years before starting the visa process and oh boooy is it a lot. The wedding has been postponed to next May (on our 4 year anniversary), but we are so happy to be living together at least... @mooli let me know if you need any advice!
Our "courthouse wedding" was actually in an abandoned parking lot on a Monday evening with our 2 year old xD It was super relaxed and not at all high maintenance and honestly, I wouldn't have changed a thing. Its pretty funny - everytime were in our hometown and we drive past it we smile and chuckle. Its not about the where or when, its about the one person standing beside you that counts

Congratulations! Don’t let any one make you feel bad about not making a huge deal out of that day. When I got married I felt very similar. I just wanted to get it done and start that chapter of my life. For what it’s worth I only wear my wedding band because I am terrified of wrecking my engagement ring. You choosing to only wear one or only have one may not be traditional but it’s practical. And it means less jewelry to keep track of. Again congratulations to you and Dan! I've been watching your content for years but I'm in a LDR for 2 years (New York to Perth, Australia) so in the same boat and we've been looking into the visa process and it makes me feel so much better to hear you guys were long distance for 3 years then we're engaged but couldn't see each other for 1.5 years because it is so hard and you guys made it! This is giving me a lot of hope! My partner and I are US/EU and UK/AUS citizens but none of them overlap really so the visa research and process is so stressful and convoluted and as you mentioned before a ton of people don't understand which why would they unless they need to so I feel very seen! But as long as you're both happy with each other, that's the main thing. The only way to get to your diamond anniversary (60 years) is to marry early, after all. A friend of mine had her actual “wedding band” on a necklace around her neck, so she could choose when to wear her engagement ring for work and stuff but always had her solid, non-flashy, wedding band with her, to wear on her finger when she chose. It’s whatever works and feels best for you!
I've been watching these for interest purposes because I had a friend who did this the opposite way where she moved there. I figured you had gotten married and weren't making a big deal of it until you had a wedding on your own time and would talk about the legal marriage vs the wedding. It took THREE YEARS for him to get his fiancé Visa approved and in that time, with Covid restrictions and my chronic Lyme Disease, we weren't able to see one another. It was so hard. But we made it, he's here, we're married and couldn't be happier. Love is worth the wait! So happy for you!
I honestly think there's nothing wrong with marrying young! My parents married at 19 and they're still very happy together. I know they're the minority, but we can't assume that every young married couple is doomed. We don't know other people's relationships.

Our friends from the upstairs appt. stood beside us and I wore a Maroon and grey striped dress he bought me in Sigonella, Sicily (he came home for a week on deployment in the Navy, we got married and he had to go back for three months that weekend--ahh, the stuff of youth). I was 20 and my submariner husband was going to deploy soon when we were married at the courthouse in Honolulu. It was a case of, "Well, we said we were going to get married someday, maybe we should do it this week?" And now, 37 years later for us too, we're still happy we did it. I got married when I was 20. I couldn't even drink legally for my own wedding, but I have been with my husband for now 15 years. Getting married young can go wrong, but with the right people it goes just fine. Only you can know if you are the right people for that. My husband and I are problem solvers so getting divorced has never really been on the table we just compromise and move on or one of us convinces the other. Reasonable people can make a marriage last forever! :)

I work at an immigration law firm, and we handle family petitions (K-1s, 1-130/CPs, AOS, etc) and overall even though it’s a nightmare, K-1s are still the fastest way to get your significant other in the US. I’m so happy for you guys! These processes aren’t easy at all, but I’m glad y’all are reunited and hopefully Dan’s AOS process is going by smoothly!
Also I encourage everyone to speak with a legal professional about which route is the best for you! Wait times vary by country you are from! Sometimes K-1 is better and sometimes I-130/CP is better but it depends on your needs and circumstances so if you are thinking of doing this and *havent* gotten married yet, consult with a legal professional before getting married and eliminating one of your options.

Congratulations! And oh, there’s no such thing as being too young when both are adults. It’s clearly not a rushed thing considering how long you guys have been together and managing as a long distance couple, and it’s no small feat for you two to get through all the hoops of moving Dan internationally and especially to a country like USA which has so many extra layers of bureaucracy in the process, and so many extras to deal with in general with insurance and all that jazz. It’s not like you two met in the park one day and started the process instantly, you had been together for a long time, traveled back and forth to see each other, and then eventually starting the whole process and prevailing both through the wait and the lockdown. That to me indicates that your love is true and pure, and then it doesn’t matter if someone is just 21 or even 18 for that matter, or if someone is in their 30’s or older. Some just find their soulmate early in life. You two have literally been moving mountains and walked through fire to get to where you are now, don’t let anyone tell you you’re “too young” to get married...

Congratulations! The green card's and visa's are such a process. My husband was here on a student visa when we met, and we had to go through soo much paperwork with the lawyer and his sponsor when we applied for the green card. Now we are in the process of adjusting his status and onto the next part of the green card, since he's held it for 2 years now. So I understand this struggle. I'm glad we did ours before Covid, but since Covid it just makes things much longer than need to be.
I just FINALLY got my k1 petition submitted yesterday, so the wait is about to begin and the waiting is so hard. We have been together 8 years! Congradulations wish you both many more years of love and happiness! Cheers

My cousin and his wife are high school sweethearts. Went to the same college, and got married ASAP. Twenty years and four kids later, they’re still madly in love and super happy to be sharing their lives together! They pretty much knew the moment they met that they were meant to be. It’s not an everyday thing, but it definitely does happen!

I moved to the EU in 2020 for the inverse of Kayla's situation, where I was Dan and my boyfriend was Kayla. And I would just like to say that getting visas are always a nightmare in every country but having Kayla go through it in the US at the same time as we went through it in the EU made it feel a bit more doable. And now here we are! Almost 2 years later and through the worst of it.

I don’t even plan on having a wedding later on 😂 I loved it. No regrets.

Our "courthouse wedding" was actually in an abandoned parking lot on a Monday evening with our 2 year old xD It was super relaxed and not at all high maintenance and honestly, I wouldn't have changed a thing. Its pretty funny - everytime were in our hometown and we drive past it we smile and chuckle. Its not about the where or when, its about the one person standing beside you that counts

I just wanted to get it done and start that chapter of my life. For what it’s worth I only wear my wedding band because I am terrified of wrecking my engagement ring. You choosing to only wear one or only have one may not be traditional but it’s practical. And it means less jewelry to keep track of. Again congratulations to you and Dan! I've been watching your content for years but I'm in a LDR for 2 years (New York to Perth, Australia) so in the same boat and we've been looking into the visa process and it makes me feel so much better to hear you guys were long distance for 3 years then we're engaged but couldn't see each other for 1.5 years because it is so hard and you guys made it! This is giving me a lot of hope! My partner and I are US/EU and UK/AUS citizens but none of them overlap really so the visa research and process is so stressful and convoluted and as you mentioned before a ton of people don't understand which why would they unless they need to so I feel very seen! I lost my freakin' mind when I saw the title of this video. The scream I let out alarmed my poor mother. I'm so excited for you! I can't believe you've managed to go without referring to Dan as your husband by accident for the last three months. (I've never been married myself, so I don't know how newly married people behave.) But as long as you're both happy with each other, that's the main thing. The only way to get to your diamond anniversary (60 years) is to marry early, after all. My grandparents made it to their diamond anniversary, because they married around the same age that the two of you are. :) I'm so happy! Your happiness has made us happy, you know?

A friend of mine had her actual “wedding band” on a necklace around her neck, so she could choose when to wear her engagement ring for work and stuff but always had her solid, non-flashy, wedding band with her, to wear on her finger when she chose. It’s whatever works and feels best for you!

I've been watching these for interest purposes because I had a friend who did this the opposite way where she moved there. I figured you had gotten married and weren't making a big deal of it until you had a wedding on your own time and would talk about the legal marriage vs the wedding. Its so nice that you are so happy and you get to be with your love!

I’m just glad you’re happy. Honestly, you have been together long enough. You both have degrees and careers, you might be younger than a lot of people who get married but you also are in a solid spot and both of you are independent enough and mature enough to make your own decisions.

My husband and I were 23/ 25 when we got married but we have been together since we were 13/ 15. Talk about young lol! We just celebrated our 13th anniversary (/3rd wedding anniversary) last month

Congratulations! I got married to my Canadian man in June of this year. It took THREE YEARS for him to get his fiancé Visa approved and in that time, with Covid restrictions and my chronic Lyme Disease, we weren't able to see one another. It was so hard. But we made it, he's here, we're married and couldn't be happier. Love is worth the wait! So happy for you!
I honestly think there's nothing wrong with marrying young! My parents married at 19 and they're still very happy together. I know they're the minority, but we can't assume that every young married couple is doomed. We don't know other people's relationships.

Our friends from the upstairs appt. stood beside us and I wore a Maroon and grey striped dress he bought me in Sigonella, Sicily (he came home for a week on deployment in the Navy, we got married and he had to go back for three months that weekend--ahh, the stuff of youth). Still going strong after 37 yrs...it can SO work! :) Again, so happy for you! :D
I was 20 and my submariner husband was going to deploy soon when we were married at the courthouse in Honolulu. It was a case of, "Well, we said we were going to get married someday, maybe we should do it this week?" And now, 37 years later for us too, we're still happy we did it.

I got married when I was 20. I couldn't even drink legally for my own wedding, but I have been with my husband for now 15 years. Getting married young can go wrong, but with the right people it goes just fine. Only you can know if you are the right people for that. My husband and I are problem solvers so getting divorced has never really been on the table we just compromise and move on or one of us convinces the other. Reasonable people can make a marriage last forever! :)

I work at an immigration law firm, and we handle family petitions (K-1s, 1-130/CPs, AOS, etc) and overall even though it’s a nightmare, K-1s are still the fastest way to get your significant other in the US. I’m so happy for you guys! These processes aren’t easy at all, but I’m glad y’all are reunited and hopefully Dan’s AOS process is going by smoothly!
Also I encourage everyone to speak with a legal professional about which route is the best for you! Wait times vary by country you are from! Sometimes K-1 is better and sometimes I-130/CP is better but it depends on your needs and circumstances so if you are thinking of doing this and *havent* gotten married yet, consult with a legal professional before getting married and eliminating one of your options.

And oh, there’s no such thing as being too young when both are adults. It’s clearly not a rushed thing considering how long you guys have been together and managing as a long distance couple, and it’s no small feat for you two to get through all the hoops of moving Dan internationally and especially to a country like USA which has so many extra layers of bureaucracy in the process, and so many extras to deal with in general with insurance and all that jazz. It’s not like you two met in the park one day and started the process instantly, you had been together for a long time, traveled back and forth to see each other, and then eventually starting the whole process and prevailing both through the wait and the lockdown. That to me indicates that your love is true and pure, and then it doesn’t matter if someone is just 21 or even 18 for that matter, or if someone is in their 30’s or older. Some just find their soulmate early in life.
You two have literally been moving mountains and walked through fire to get to where you are now, don’t let anyone tell you you’re “too young” to get married...
i just want to say that as an american that has been in a relationship with a guy from england for 2 and a half years that probably has this exact situation in my future these videos are so helpful!! it's also so nice to see someone that dealt with the same stuff we did not being able to see each other during the pandemic but seeing u and dan makes me so excited about my future with my bf!! i'm so happy for u guys :-)

The green card's and visa's are such a process. My husband was here on a student visa when we met, and we had to go through soo much paperwork with the lawyer and his sponsor when we applied for the green card. Now we are in the process of adjusting his status and onto the next part of the green card, since he's held it for 2 years now. So I understand this struggle. I'm glad we did ours before Covid, but since Covid it just makes things much longer than need to be.

my husband and i got married at 21 when he decided to join the army, we were dating for 3 years and then he got stationed halfway across the country. we never were engaged so i also just have one ring, mines the wedding band though! so i totally understand wanting a real wedding later and not wanting another ring at least for a while it feels like part of the story.

I moved to the EU in 2020 for the inverse of Kayla's situation, where I was Dan and my boyfriend was Kayla. And I would just like to say that getting visas are always a nightmare in every country but having Kayla go through it in the US at the same time as we went through it in the EU made it feel a bit more doable. And now here we are! Almost 2 years later and through the worst of it.

My husband and I also had a courthouse wedding. No family. Just the two of us lol. We were the last couple to get married in the courthouse in our county before Covid shut everything down last year (March 16th). I totally understand what you mean by it feeling super relaxed and over in like .5 seconds. Afterward we went and got snack wraps at McDonald’s and went home. I don’t even plan on having a wedding later on 😂 I loved it. No regrets.
