I find it can be hard to stick to the rules of a specific challenge because sometimes they feel too rigid, or I just don't like the later gens, but going in with no guidance ends up with me losing interest because I run out of ideas. So I've decided to do what I'm calling my "Quilt Legacy", where I'm pulling gens I like from different challenges and stitching them together to create something new, like patchwork!
A big thing for me in my first legacy challenge was adding in sims from the gallery after a few generations. All the game-generated sims felt the same after the premade townies died, and I wanted some variety of backgrounds in my family. Also, getting MCCC was a game-changer. Now, even though I don't ever play outside of my main household, other families in the world continue on and my family tree branches off and combines with the townies. Currently, I'm playing the Build Newcrest legacy. Having my own builds to visit is cool, and it makes me want to edit the public lots to fir my style more for future rags to riches challenges, or even use my own builds to begin my next legacy challenge in a filled-up Newcrest.
It’s hard for me to finish a legacy because I get too attached to my Sims and then when they die, I don’t want to make the other heir the heir because then they would die and it’s a big cycle 😭😭

Back in the Sims 2 days, when the Legacy Challenge was still new, almost everyone did the Legacy Challenge in a similar way. Start on a 5x5 empty lot. Build a house. Work from there. Then the Sims 3 days came, and people still carried over the tradition to some degree. But I think the lot size was changed to 64x64? Meanwhile, there were also people who started to deviate completely from the whole empty lot thing. They just started with a house from the get-go and called it a 'Legacy Challenge'. Then the Sims 4 came, and players hardly ever start on an empty lot anymore. People's conceptions of a Legacy Challenge have completely changed.
as someone who finds the family gameplay absolutely tedious this hopefully will help me stick with one family after my founder passes.😅 I've admittedly been that way with all the games since I started with sims 2 and tend to prefer occults so I need good reasons to keep playing one family
I'm the complete opposite! I set mine to be a week long each. Any longer than that and I feel a bit bored, though it does feel like I have holidays way too frequently
Thanks for your tips, just wanted to weigh in on the makeover of the world part. If you're like me, and you want to make over EVERY world, it's a never ending cycle lol. By the time you're finishing up, a new expansion comes out woth a new world that needs to be made over. but it's pretty fun though.
This why I have a problem with the sims now. I wish things were place for you, some people don’t have the creativity or patience to do all that, I hate that you have to basically put everything in place yourself. That’s what makes the game so boring. I wish there was more of a storyline or something, it feels so bland bruh

Get life or death and make graves memorials etc you can do it with basegame decently aswell its really cute

I usually do 2 week seasons but I've been inspired by oshinsims to download the 21 day season mod by littlemisssam and treat each week as a month.
