Father pulled anchor and took off. he should have been arrested for child endangerment and abuse..This boy needs protection. I hope this is not ignored by the authorities.
There is no way he did not know he left his son in the middle of the lake. Dereliction of duty that no one has followed up or interviewed the boy about what his dad's history of treatment is with him.
Obviously, there's something wrong here. Father's mental health quite not what it should be. The father and son need some support which if not given in good time will lead to disaster. Whatever happened to,'The rights of the child'??

as a survivor of childhood abuse, the fact that this kid was exactly as afraid of disobeying his father as he was of drowning tells a whole story by itself, and i hope him and his family get help getting away from that POS as soon as possible. this poor baby is relieved to be rescued from the water, but he's not happy. the danger isn't over, cos now he's thinking about what's going to happen when everyone is gone and his dad punishes him for falling in, and for not making it to shore by himself, and double for "being a bother" to the people who actually helped and took care of him (which is to say, the people who witnessed the abuse, which somehow he'll blame on the kid). this is how men like him keep their kids from getting help, by telling us we're a burden on the people who reach out to us when they see us being neglected. i'm 49 years old and i still remember the awful, awful fear of needing help and knowing i'd be in trouble for accepting it.
@@tezcatbus man you clearly know this, but I am equally sorry for your experiences in life. I know that when damaged people become parents, this kind of behaviour becomes prevalent.

No kidding.. that made me cry. I have 3 boys. We have ups and downs like everyone ever. But I'd never even think about anything like that. This dad should be in jail.. where's the mom at? Im so angry someone can do this to people they love or should love .. it's beyond me.
I'm not a dad. I'm not a first responder or a serviceman or anything... I'd still save a kid like this any day, and I'd also be super thankful the cops were there when the "dad" showed up...
This was also attempted murder. "dad of the year"? I think not. And see how he is telling the other guy "we might be seeing each other again". Not good for the future of the child. Not good at all. Someone else TRUSTWORTHY has to be taken care of of the boy ASAP, or next time we will hear about him again will be about him drowning "by accident" in the middle of a river.

My dad sometimes showed a little tough love, but abandoning any of us in a frigid river would have never crossed his mind. This kid needs to be given to someone else who will care for him.
Mistakes happen but the level of concern that father is showing leads me to believe that this may have been intentional. That father's attitude is not that of someone worried about the welfare of his child.
The fact that the father was a couple hundred yards away and wasn't actively calling out for his son and his response, it almost certainly sounds deliberate. Was he trying to make him tough and swim back on his own and he has done that before? This wreaks of child abuse. I hope they are going to investigate this man.
I got left behind like that before basically no one is educated on safety while on a vacation. But I might have been 10 years old and I had a year or two of swimming instruction so I could just swim to shore.
@@LovesLakes So the adults were on the boat, I tried to stand up while the boat was moving and fell off. They kept on going and I was like whatever. And I just swam for land. On the same vacation I was dropped off by a boat on an island which wasn't too far from the mainland and I didn't feel like waiting for a ride off, so I swam to where the summer camp site was. I didn't care then all too much since I just thought I could swim, and I did. However, I wouldn't want to risk my own kid in the water like this since hypothermia in the water is a real risk.
What father leaves his child in the river/lake. A child can still drown or suffer hypothermia with a life jacket on! Thank you for stepping up to help this child!
@@davepeesthepool he reacted sooo indifferent. I would have gone insane if my little boy fell in the water. And then he came so much later like it was no big deal. And that little boy didn't expect any compassion from his 'dad', that speaks volumes. Thankfully there was one good guy on the river. I sure hope police gets child protection involved. What a dead-beat dad that poor little boy 😔
This breaks my heart. From a mom of two boys, thank you and thank god for this man being there at that moment. CPS should be involved with this little boy. His dad apparently doesn't have his sons safety as his priority. Really heartbreaking to hear the dads reaction.
@bradoutboard8885. It was not staged. It happen years ago & was headline news in the area. There’s an official police report about it. This channel is just recycling on old video,
A random stranger who acts more like a father than the real father... I mean I know obviously everyone would save a child in that situation but this guy seems to go the step extra with the calming and confidence boosting talks. Great guy.
I hope the man who rescued that sweet boy does an impromptu check in a week ish just to see where this kid may be & then try to get 4-1-1 on whether this kid is actually safe and cared for with ‘that’ nonchalant type of parents.
What broke my heart was that the boy's first response was "I need to get to my father". Even though his father did this terrible thing to him, his heart still longed for his father 😞
I think he was more scared of his dad and worried about the next onslaught of abuse -so trying to get back to him as quickly as possible in the futile hope that the rage will be less 😢
That is a primeval instinct. The boy deep down knows that his father is a let down and that he depends on his dad, but when that boy reaches the age where he can successfully escape, he will never look back.
My friend ran a child nursery and told me when social services came to remove children from parents it was heartbreaking to watch because even though they had been subjected to abuse they still clung to their parents - heartbreaking.
"Thank you, we might be seeing each other again." What the heck does that mean? You leave a 6 yr old kid floating in the river, and you're not in jail?
A real hero in the small 🛶. This guy was one of the boys I grew up with who understood how to treat a lady and had no tolerance for bullies in the world. These are the guys I’m comfortable around today. I really admire this man for saving the 6 year olds life.
100% at the least should be investigated further. I dont want to see the boy stripped of his family and placed in some government run shithole but I mean is the other option him being left to drown or freeze to death? Sick of this twisted ass world.
Father says the kid has done this before. The reality is the father has done this before ie pulling anchor and abandoning his 6 year old. Makes me wonder if he’s trying to off the kid.
@@sandrabarrie84Sounds super sketchy. Wonder if he's got a life insurance policy on that poor child? If anyone ever deliberately left my little child unattended in a dangerous situation one damned time, they wouldn't be around us anymore. If people don't want the responsibility of caring for children ,why don't they have the guts to at least let someone else adopt them?
I had this thought too. This dad reminds me of the dad from that bunker story, Josef Fritzel. Like, something is not right with the dad and he was doing this situation for a reason.
How do you lose a kid that’s with you in the water? How do you not circle back to look for him? Something not right here at all. Disturbing is an understatement. Great job in keeping him calm and taking care of him.
He acted like Robert Wagner many years ago, when he refused to let anyone help his wife, Natalie Wood, back aboard their yacht. It was dark, she was terrified and pleading, he left her in the water to "teach her a lesson". She drowned. This jerk admitted that he's done this abusive move to his son before. "He knows to swim to shore!" Dude, it's a river, with strong undercurrent. The boy was cold, scared, and exhausted. Kudos to the kind kayaker for not punching that "dad" in the face. I don't know if I could have controlled my rage at that creep abandoning his poor son like that.
The Dad left his son in the river on purpose! That man is filth. I hope that the boy's mother divorces that man. If they are not married and not together, I hope she gets full custody and that sperm donor gets kicked to the curb!
No. I wouldn't. If the kid still needs to trust his dad, so on. But I would let the kid, being taking care of else where to see what story the dad (and I not hope his mom) come with. Something tells me it won't be coherent with what that little fellow statement. This ain't the first time I've seen adults putting a child in danger. Adults whom are paid to protect them.
@@PCJ52 Police hade done with adults. I remember 2 stories when a wife hired a killer for their husband. The police would tell the husband. The husband would play along. So the police and him could enjoy the show. 🍿 That dad tried to kill his boy. There's no doubt about it.

As a boat owner you are a Captain and with that comes the responsibility for the safety of every person onboard your vessel. I ply the waters on the Lowest end of the Columbia River and travel the river and the coast of the Pacific NW. Some of the most dangerous waters in the world. If someone went overboard from my boat I would react very differently than this dad. My kids are my life. No one even touches the dock without a PFD. Every PFD has an automatic strobe light. His immediate refusal to take responsibility for this child's plight is criminal at best. Especially since they have dealt with this before. A Child of 6 in the water is subject to hypothermia and panic. The boy is a CHILD and will react as a child. This guy should never be allowed to be alone with his kid on or near water again.

I don't believe in God, but I agree, the "We might be seeing each other again" line just filled me completely with dread 😭 This man deserves a medal for what he did saving this boy 💜
I think he meant it as like a “let me buy you a beer someday” kind of gesture, but it gave me the chills a bit too. I feel like the father somehow isn’t registering the brevity of the situation, not thinking about the current in the water etc, but kind of a socially awkward person who also is incredibly selfish for being so careless.
The reaction from his father showed me he left that young man in the water… and for the little boy not to run to his dad after being terrified says a lot also 😢
@Jackdanni yeah the father sounds like he is a tough love kind of dad. I felt like he intentionally put his son in the middle of the water and for the boy to figure out how to come back. Good point on the kid not running to his dad. Very good point. I didn’t even think about that. He stayed with the elderly man in the chair. God I hope he’s in prison and the boys mom is alive and a lot better and she divorces the dad. Ugh
I have to agree I don't see that kid anywhere in a shot with his dad when he shows up. When he first was found he said he needed to get with his daddy. I don't think he was missing his daddy and wanting to see him. he only wanted what he expected from a "daddy" . In this circumstance? To a 6 year old who's suffering from hypothermia daddy means the boat, because that's where daddy is and that's where warmth and safety is... not necessarily Daddy. But that's who he was with when he was safe and then for some reason his dad forgets his son in the water and then (doesn't report him missing? from what I understand) . I understand that people have stressful lives and things that go on their brain brains that can make them forget about really really important things. I've never understood parents to forget they have children in the car and they die in a car seat. But you can see the reaction when they realize what they've done especially when they got a bunch of kids out and then forgot one. It has to be an awful thing to live with whether it's your child or not. I think that kid spent a lot of time wondering why his dad wasn't calling out to him before pulling anchor and sailing off. I don't know if the boat had a motor but you're generally not standing next to it. Which gives you how much less plausible explanation that you didn't realize he wasn't on board if you're on a smaller boat where you can see 360°around you and see the entirety of the boat and notice that your son is missing because you remember him jumping in the water. I'm sorry this isn't someone with small children who knows the dangers of water even if you don't drown. I think the kid is busy processing on whatever level a 6-year-old can that his dad I'd rather drink Jack Daniels or thinking about how easy life would be without a son around. A lot a lot of enforcement are wandering about with looks on their faces that especially after meeting Dad and hearing him talk? That's some amazing self-righteousness mixed with shit parenting like " fine... don't get on the boat when I tell you, you can swim back" He seems a little irritated by the whole situation even thanking the guy he can't help but be snarky. I would definitely have CPS interview that kid and then talk to the dad and see what stories match up.. There's not a lot of gratitude in that entire room once Dad shows up. Now I'm going to have to look into this story because I want to know
The boy will grow up not knowing what it's like to have a dad who raised him with love. We can only hope that this boy ends up living with a loving and caring family because his dad is a joke.

Just based on the clip and what the dad says, the dad sounds psychopathic. No concerned care or panicked worry for the boy, just "I told him to swim to shore." Concerned parents would be livid, if not completely out of their minds, when their child is missing. This dad just walks up and acts like it's a normal Tuesday.
@@specialtwice4975 That’s what I thought as well, the dad has psychopathic tendencies. Completely inappropriate reactions that do not match the gravity of the situation. He mentioned it was not the first time (cause it happened before), and that it will probably happen again (saying to the rescuer that they’ll see each other again). I don’t know if he’s trying to teach his son how to swim or what his motives are, but that kid is not safe around his “dad.”
What the hell is wrong with this “father”? I hope he’s investigated. Telling a six year old to swim to shore in a river is ridiculous! Thank goodness that kayaker came along.
This is the symptom of a sociopath. For his father to do this to his son is unforgivable. Ted Bundy did this to a girl and derived joy watching her terror as the girl swam believing she was going to die. She made it to shore but that’s a form of torture which is terrifying.
Thank God the rescuer was in the right place. The father is a piece of work. Seems he couldn’t care less. Father claims it happened before. Once should’ve been enough, twice seems like endangering the life of a child.
I don't even leave my 6 year alone for breakfast. Let alone in the freaking water. I kinda get the vibe that by the "Happens a lot" implication this may be a 'punishment technique' from the father - It makes me want to throw up.
Sperm donor…no parent would do this. He doesn’t want his child. This brave little guy deserves better. He is 6years old for God’s sake someone needs to intervene and advocate for him.
It was pretty cool how the old guy on the porch reacted, no asking any questions or being suspicious, or asking for a full repeat of what the hero was telling him, he just assessed the situation and immediately helped and gave full respect to the kid. Not everyone would react like that.

I'm a retired elementary school counselor. I've made CPS calls with them getting involved on less charges then that. I've even had to call the local police along with CPS for a child on less then that with the parent, usually father, arrested on less charges. If the police didn't remove that little boy from his father that day especially after hearing his apathy in his voice concerning his son & what happened along with visually seeing that neither the parent or the child ran up to each other. That's a very strong indication that something is afoot already concerning abuse. A normal reaction from the parent would have been to run up to their child, hug them tightly, & start crying due to fear of drowning & death. A normal reaction of the child would have been to run up to the parent if fast enough & to immediately start wailing as soon as he saw his parent(s) & hugging them tightly. This scenario is all wrong!!
All true. What got me is when the father said "this has happened before". This should never happen....You never leave a child alone in the water unattended, especially cold water in a wide river!! In a situation like this, one strike and you are out.

That child should never again spend time alone with the one man on earth whose most meaningful job and deepest responsibility is to PROTECT HIS CHILD. I sure would like to know what the local court thinks about this dope and his child neglect/negligence. The police officer striding onto that porch did not look pleased to be called to a potential case of child endangerment by leaving a little kid IN A COLD RIVER. And dad saying he had told the child to "swim to shore" was just pathetic. At age six and disoriented, which shore is the safe shore where useless dad is? Bet dad never thought of that. I've watched the original video, and the father is definitely out of it one way or another. This is the first time I've seen a follow up from the rescuer filming, but I would love to know if the child is okay now.
"We've been in this situation before... Remember, swim slowly to shore"..... Good Lord, I hope the authorities didn't leave it at that! Disgusting excuse for a father, remember swim slowly to shore a 6 year old hasn't got a choice but to swim slowly in a river with currents that will pull him in any direction. Was this father a record breaking ocean swimmer at 6 years old ?
So, this isn't a one-time thing, obviously! Any real father would have been paddling back furiously to get to his son, not just coldly tell him he should swim for shore. What kind of person does that to a little kid? He didn't even seem to hug him like he was worried! Had that been my kid being rescued, I would have been hugging him like there's no tomorrow!!
Cps never does their job right! Haven't you noticed? They're too busy going after parents who need some extra help but are good parents and meanwhile ignoring those who are true monsters, taking kids away and then putting them in foster homes that sometimes are bad and never checking in on the kids, giving kids back to awful parents where they typically end up dead. Seems to be the pattern with cps. They need to do better.
How do you lose your kid overboard…. But then leave him behind? My heart’s breaking for this kid. No child should EVER feel abandoned by their parent. And here he was terrified feeling abandoned.

That's some amazing self-righteousness mixed with shit parenting like " fine... don't get on the boat when I tell you, you can swim back"
He seems a little irritated by the whole situation even thanking the guy he can't help but be snarky.

Those are great points, something is definitely not right at home.
All true. What got me is when the father said "this has happened before". This should never happen....You never leave a child alone in the water unattended, especially cold water in a wide river!! In a situation like this, one strike and you are out.
The dad looks like Donald Trump to me
Yes former ER Nurse here... well stated!! CPS needed post haste!! That child could have easily died from hypothermia!!! That Father is only biological... not a real Father.. I hope that little boy has a chance in life!! 🌹
So true. None of the parent or child seemed happy to see each other after that ordeal. Wild.
Thank god for the man that saved him 🙏 real hero a good man
#1. Thank you for rescuing this young man. You are a Hero!
The Father should be arrested and charged.

100%
This happened two years ago, and the father was never charged.
Wtf?????? Where’s the news story. I hope they didn’t release him back to that monster
I didn't cry about this video --- I YELLED! You sir are a real hero for rescuing that little boy. Absolute hero! And whoever called the police is a hero. That so-called father is a lousy piece of work! Either he encouraged the boy to jump in the water or her tossed him in and then left ON PURPOSE. Was it to "teach" the boy a lesson? That child should never again spend time alone with the one man on earth whose most meaningful job and deepest responsibility is to PROTECT HIS CHILD. I sure would like to know what the local court thinks about this dope and his child neglect/negligence. The police officer striding onto that porch did not look pleased to be called to a potential case of child endangerment by leaving a little kid IN A COLD RIVER. And dad saying he had told the child to "swim to shore" was just pathetic. At age six and disoriented, which shore is the safe shore where useless dad is? Bet dad never thought of that. Mom, that lousy man is a danger to this and any other children you had with him. Keep that in mind in the future. I pray that this video makes it into evidence at court where dad WILL be convicted of a crime against this kid. I know that jury members will imagine what would have happened if that boater had not responded and saved that child. Jurors will do the right thing IF the prosecutor will bring charges. G.od Bless both this hero and this child.
Yes, he can stage a video to make himself look like a hero, like the guy who parachuted out of his own airplane and crashed into a mountain
@williamcope2652. Would you just stop. It wasn’t staged. It happened in 2022 outside Duluth MN on the St. Louis River. Police investigated & there’s an official report.
@@williamcope2652 You just can't stop yourself, can you Mr. Copeland? I'm surprised you didn't take another opportunity to blame the mother...again.
@@williamcope2652He could I suppose. But I'm sure any idiot can see how far he was from the shore, so staging won't work. Except for 1 idiot who thinks it's staged.
Cold, current, water, panic-they all can kill.
This dad is trying to slide by without consequences, didn’t care enough about his own kid to admit disorientation or loss or bring him out of the water himself.
To the man that rescued that boy and saved his life:
Thank you brother, you handled that situation with equal parts of calm and confidence..
You are a hero indeed 🔥
What are the odds a kayaker comes across this kid? Had this man not gone kayaking that day that child likely would not have made it. Thank God.
I mean he could’ve at least pulled him in lol?
I believe God put this sweet, compassionate man there to save this child that day. Thank you sir, you are this child’s hero. ❤
If the father is comfortable showing such little concern for his son's welfare whilst out in public, what do you think he's like towards him behind closed doors? A very suspect 'father' and definitely one that should be under scrutiny from child services etc.
Sir, I wish I could shake your hand and thank you for saving this boy and being the kind of man we need in our society. Strong, brave and compassionate. God bless.
Bless you 🙏🏼❤️
Thank God you were there and saved this child. His father should be arrested for child abuse!
AGREE 💯%!
Then had da audacity to say I'll probably see u again!! Wtf
More like attempted murder not the first times it’s happened and definitely not the last
@@andreab9526Exactly
It sounded as if the dad deliberately stranded his child hoping he’d drown. This is frightening.
That’s exactly what I thought, the scarier thing is what will he try next 😳
Sadly I thought the same. What little I saw of him reminded me of a tweaker. Someone needs to see if he "up'd" the insurance policy on his child. Sick individual. I fear for that boy.
What I was thinking! Maybe divorce or something.
No. He was trying to teach his kid self reliance and sadly took it too far.
@@a.randolph8112 I think it's insane that people try and teach children self reliance in any way even close to this. He needs to worry more about teaching himself about what it means to be a parent. It is healthy for a child to be reliant on their parent, especially in the middle of a freezing river.
I can't imagine leaving my son in the middle of a river and leaving..
This father needs to be held accountable by justice.
Abd this black man is a hero for saving the kid, we need more people like him
Can NOT BELIEVE THE DAD'S TOTAL DETACHMENT / CARELESNESS SHOWN TO THIS LITTLE BOY! HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPORTED, IF NOT FOR NOW, BUT ALSO, FOR FUTURE CONCERNS!! HE WAS A BRAVE LITTLE GUY, AND THANK YOU, DIR FOR YOU CARE AND KINDNESS! GOD BLESS!❤
This child fell off the boat, the father was trying to turn boat safely around to get his son. He told his son to swim towards the shore where it was shallower. This kayaker saw what happened. Grabbed the boy a 100yd from shore. Boy wanted to be brought back to his Dad. You can hear him asking to be brought to the Dad. This man refused and basically kidnapped the child and took him somewhere else down the shore line, while the Dad was frantically looking for his son. Child was 300yds from the shore. His Dad told him to swim to shore because it was shallower. He did not want the propeller to hit his son. This kayaker is a liar and made a bad situation worse! Absolutely sickening. Bottomline is the child is alive because his Dad had him in a life jacket. Kayaker was a creep. Probably took everything in him not to punch the man who took his son a 100yds from the shore
@constancedenchy9801 You really sound ridiculous. This man saved that young boy’s life. Even though he had a life jacket on. The boy’s dad even said that it has happened before and even seemed so nonchalant about it. The little boy was terrified and very cold. This man had the compassion and strength to help this child. And you’re calling this man, who helped him to shore a creep. The person who is a creep, is the boy’s dad. I hope CPS checked in on this little boy.
@@constancedenchy9801Did you have fun contorting yourself into a pretzel to excuse the careless father's negligence while blaming the good samaritan who more than likely saved this young boy's life?

With the context of the video I think it was out of fear, like his dad is going to be pissed off.
@@kikivon3501omg 😢never thought of it that way!
His reaction was so nonchalant, you might be right like he purposely did that when they were maybe clashing to “teach him a lesson” then told reasonable adults that he coulda just swam to shore… I hope this child grows up emotionally stable

Just OMG. I can't believe he wasn't arrested. You did a great job helping him.
And this is why kids carry on being abused. Because the police don’t even arrest for attempted murder or abandonment of a child - clearly on camera too
"We've been in this situation before" makes it sound intentional and says it all. That poor, sweet boy. I pray he doesn't end up "missing" and in the news. Some people are unreal and should have never had children.

@@manohara7073 Ever _use_ a small, one-person kayak? They are infamously unstable. There would have been two people in the drink, and it would have taken considerably longer to get the cold, weakening kid ashore, and the kid would have had reason to panic. The kayaker talked the kid and told him the plan and the kid agreed that he could hang on all the way to shore.
Kudos to the great person that saved this kid!

Yes...DRUNK!
even drunk, my parents would not act that way. i've seen them drunk and I was in a slightly dangerous position (not life threatening, just would have got a few bumps/bruises/scraps and they snapped into action
I've watched the original video, and the father is definitely out of it one way or another. In the full video, when he arrives and starts talking so carelessly, there's a moment when one of the first responders snaps his head up in shock and just has to walk away. This is the first time I've seen a follow up from the rescuer filming, but I would love to know if the child is okay now.

"We've been in this situation before... Remember, swim slowly to shore"..... Good Lord, I hope the authorities didn't leave it at that! CPS needs to get involved, to also visit his home environment to make sure everything is okay there, and to check on any siblings or other vulnerable family members. This "Dad" is a piece of work!
Fucking asshole for doing this to a child 😢
The kid didn't remember his own age at first, let that sink in.
What a true hero, that man in the kayak 👏 thank you. Not sure about the future of the boy with his father😢
"We've been in this situation before." ... WHAT???!!!!! Please tell me there's an update that either the father's in jail or the the child has been placed in a better home... or both. INSANE!
