According to Wikipedia State of California owns the land talking about selling it eventually when civilization gets there build tract homes there. I think it will be a while before they make it that far. Tract homes are selling for 300k and up in Indio which I never thought would ever be more than a farm town. California's thirst for single family homes seems to be endless. Those tract homes sold in matter of weeks California's can't afford to live any closer to the coast.

We were considering staying there for about a month, but opted for a mountain in Utah instead. But one of these days we'll explore there.
