I rode the Tideman Road footpath Tuesday, its a bit of a mess. Given the length of time this footpath is going to be a shared path a pre project upgrade would have been a smart move!
Not at all - we just want the detours to be safe and professional. The same standard that we expect when we drive. Would you be happy if detours this bad were setup for a year or so on a freeway and you had to stop and get out of your car to try and work out where to go? I thought not.
Something else you want to consider - do you want to be stuck behind a cyclist doing 25kmh across this bridge? No - especially when the only reason the cyclist is there in front of you is because of appalling signage which has failed to point them to the correct route. It's in your best interests as a driver for the traffic controllers to setup clear, safe detours for other road users. Use your brain.
I've been in regular contact with WestCycle, and they've been trying to get these videos in front of managers at Main Roads who are senior enough to get something done about it. I've worked in several large bureaucracies (govt and private) and I know how hard it can be to find the right people who can make things happen. You need to find the people who have the authority to make changes and who also have the will to make those changes. There's an enormous amount of inertia and resistance to change in government departments, and the desire to avoid blame or deny the existence of problems is often greater than the desire to acknowledge and then fix problems. These videos present them with a problem though - they are undeniable evidence that a problem exists and that they aren't doing anything about it. Do any of those managers want to front a coronial inquiry or Work Safe investigation and explain why they took no action once they were made aware that a major safety risk exists?
It illustrates a terrible Safety Culture. I worry that this shows that the safety culture across the entire bridge project is rotten - and that's how people end up in hospital or dead.
There is a heap of work being one at Mullaloo beach if you want to give us north dwellers some love 😊
Yeah, was up there last month. Had a great breakfast at Swell cafe. Definitely worth another visit.
@@baybugcanadabaybicycleuser915 they have fenced a lot of the paths off and dug them up.

Yep - that would have been proper project planning.
WA Bike month in Freo is October. Maybe the City of Freo or mayor should think about how participants safely get into the bike friendly city precinct!
Damm, Fremantle roads look like a mess like Sydney roads. All over the place 😅
typical cyclist that wants the world turned upside down just for them

Have you raised the issues with WestCycle? They've been advocating for better path detours for a while.

Mainroads just dont care. They closed about a third of the psp from joondalup to perth for years
