Finally finished this. And it was amazing. I could tell about the impressive narration, but on thing that impressed me is how to put that much information in a video. I have started my own videos about the Kuei-jin, and I have to split in several videos because in my first attempt I talked one hour and a half and I still didn't cover all. To do such a extensive explanation, even things I did not plan to explain like the Wan Xian, in 22 minutes, seems magic to me.
Thank you for such a lovely comment! Yeah, there is a LOT of information about the Kuei-Jin that has yet be explored that I left out, so I wouldn’t overwhelm the listener. Good luck on your own videos!
The Kuei Jin are just so strange when compared to Cainites. It's like a whole different setting in of itself! Just goes to show that the world isnt as small as some might think.
This is *AMAZING!!!* I love the roleplaying in this video and I love that you covered this topic, seeing as not many VtM fans cover it. I really hope that White Would makes a setting/module for the VtM TTRPG where we can play AS a Kuei-Jin!

Having just scoured the book to find that answer, KoTE is rather vague on that, with a table on p41 implying that they indeed have been reversed. However, I do remember searching this and yet somehow still made that mistake. When I do a more advanced Kuei-Jin episode, I will be sure correct that error. Thanks!
I think it's never stated officially that yin is masculine and yang feminine in KotE. It's true that the Scarlet Empress, the Penangallan and other characters associated with Yang are female. I believe that is the interaction of a license over the Taoist religion by which Yin represents death and Yang life, and our own cultural association of life with the feminine (in Taoism life is the combination that would originate when the male yang and female yin are combined).
KoTE is rather vague on that, with a table on p41 implying that they indeed have been reversed. But you are right in that it is never stated, which I find a tad odd.
This is why no one should underestimate the knowledge that Nosferatu can bring to the table. Very insightful information to the neonates of all sects. Each video keeps getting better and better, keep up the good work!😁 But now I'm wondering if there is any information on the danger to all kindred independent of their sect, Garu and changing breeds, they are still roaming near the cities that we call our territory..
Love this video, though I was curious as to what the Kuei-Jin are when they've reached their peak. I believe there's a term for it starting with a "Ar" I was wondering what benefits/abilities and overall meaning of the final stage of the Kuei-Jins progress.
@@LoreByNightVtM Sounds great, they're very interesting. It's a shame many people don't like KoTe due to the obvious problems within it. I look forward to those videos. Keep up the good work.
These Kuei-Jin sound somewhat similar to the Chinese hopping zombie: Jiangshi. Jiangshi were utterly terrifying monsters in chinese folklore, being a strange combination of Ghost, Zombie and Vampire, with one acception: the Jiangshi did not drink blood, but grabbed their prey by the head and inhaled their prey's soul from their mouths. They were stiff, a result of rigor mortis, and could only hop with arms outstretched as a result of the rotted stiffness; assisting when catching their prey quickly. Or even, to float like possessed statues, hissing in the night. Fire and sunlight were their bane, obviously, but they also have two weaknesses unique to themselves: First, strangely, is sticky rice. They are weakened by it, and eating it prevents the soul from being consumed. Second would be a talisman. Using the sorcery of the tines, a properly constructed Takisman could either seal them in torpor, or put them under the applier's control.
@@LoreByNightVtM whitewolf.fandom.com/wiki/Triat Basically in the cosmology of the werewolves and shapeshifters, there's three three supremely powerful spirits that embody the universal concepts of creation, stasis and entropy. The Wyld, The Weaver and The Wyrm. So the Wyrm was corrupted from its original purpose and now in turn corrupts nature. The reason the shapeshifters hate vampires is because they smell of wyrmtaint. Hell the werewolves legend for Caine describe him as the bloody man, a human who was devoured by the Wyrm but survived by drinking its Eldritch blood and becoming a Godlike creature of corruption in return.
So Kue Jin as being named from one that hop around with a paper seal on the forehead? Sorry, just that whenever I hear Chinese vampire, which didn’t help with its popularity from comedy horror genre based on them.
I find it interesting that they have 2 souls that could be interpreted as such; the hun is the vampire humanity and wraith psyche and the po is the vampire beast and wraith shadow. Seeing as how the Kuei-Jin are somewhat of a combination between vampire and wraith
Very interesting but after reading so much on them I still find their clan to be incredibly racist and I wish there was a way to integrate them rather than erasing them completely. They should be more than just "the Asian vampires".
Never liked the orientalist vibes I get from the Kuei Jin. I would prefer actual Kindred with different cultural practices and disciplines not obvious stereotypes like karma and chi.
I agree. Though you can't lock vampire to just the eurocentric version as if that's the only version that exists in any folk lore. Every culture perceives things of the same thing differently. Beckett writes: _It has been known that each burden of the curse that have been given across the globe from these deity like figures, before their rest from their works, would be like many stories of such deities who says "I've been known by many names" implies a possibility that vampires, both from east to west, would come from an origin of one source. And when the blood becomes too weak to carry the burdens of the curse then that source shall return._ But, that is from a pompous scholar who is a filthy Gangrel who might have unknowingly, even with all his cynicism, been the lynchpin to his own noddist prophecy no less. I agree with you that the karma and chi should be removed. Eat blood, bone, flesh or soul but not god damned chi. That insults so many cultures and not what their folk lore monster/vampires feed upon. The god damned west....your kinds should just be called a god damned "waste". Truly.
For real like in many of the none western countries vtm just kind of doesn't really care about doing those countries vampire stories and myths as clans, and that can be cool but it can also led to speical asian vampires that are literally doing a yellow peril

I can't help but winder if the scarlet queen and ebon dragon are Eastern interpretations of The Wyld and The Wyrm of the cosmic triat of the garau
I don’t know what the Wyld and Wyrm are, but I guess they are opposites and probably do pinch things from each other

Can a westerner who lived in hong kong rise up as kuei jin? Like an asian can be embraced into a Cainite?
I say it's possible, be it more uncommon
Regarding the Kuei-jin, I would say that it seems to be more dependant on the geographical location than the ethnic group of the individual.
