I’m not sure why people complain about painted furniture. Painted furniture has been around for hundreds of years, to each his own. I personally love both painted and stained furniture. I’ve got both in my home. You have a good eye and your furniture always sells. You’re doing something right. Keep up with the amazing transformations. As always, God bless.
Nothing wrong with paint except on mid century. Paint away on whatever you like... But caution, it does often devalue a piece if it is antique. However, trash to treasure always impresses me. Especially painting items left in the street.
Because some people like to respect the original, when it's considered a piece of art. It'd be like painting over a monet with a cheap DIY. Also, I suppose for the same reason that one doesn't drink wine traight out of the bottle. For the money that she pays for those pieces though, I doubt any of it is of real value or made out of rare wood. Personally, I really like what she did with that buffet.
ALTHOUGH I AM A PURIST AND IT WOULD LOOK GREAT RESTORED THE PAINTED VERSION IS JUST AS NICE BUT THE MAIN OBJECTIVE IS A WONDERFUL VINTAGE USA MADE PIECE OF FURNITURE IS SAVED FROM THE LANDFILL AND WILL BE ENJOYED FOR YEARS TO COME LOVE YOUR SHOW
This is an amazing make over. I have this piece and the whole bedroom set. It was my parents’ and it is 63 years old. It was made in the US by the White Furniture Company and was very expensive. You really cannot duplicate the quality of their furniture and refinishing is a wonderful way to modernize quality pieces. My set is the original fruit wood finish and I had it refreshed to the same color about 23 years ago. The decorator who helped me said to never get rid of the set as it could never be duplicated because of the workmanship and quality.
I love it. I'm all about bringing solid wood pieces into the 21st century. It's what this generation likes and you just can't buy well crafted, solid wood pieces in your basic furniture stores anymore. We currently live in a throwaway society and the younger generation gravitate towards particle woods. I'll take quality and turn it into something beautiful for any generation. Great job!!
Loved this one and more to the point, your consideration to the future owners who just may want to restore to them (in their time continuums ), a beautiful antique. And once again my favourite colour -Sunday Tea. Thanks and stay safe Kara, from rural Queensland
I LOVE the color of the gel stain! The color of the piece is beautiful as well. I wonder what the whole piece would like with just the gel stain? Always love your videos and your teaching!
I liked what you did with the knobs. I like it when you work on the clunky 80's stuff. You always seem to do those justice. But I feel that anyone working on mid century pieces has to know what they are doing as most are now antiques. Good luck, have fun, and make lots of money.
I agree that many times it is not necessary to paint, however, this turned out beautifully. Great job😊 I may have stained the outline of the doors, too. You gave me an idea of how i may want to refreash my three furniture pieces so they all match😊❤
LL, the hardware seemed to have a disconnect. You left off that top drawer back escutcheon. I would add it back personally, so those wouldn't look like bad replacements. VERY minor detail, and great job as usual. Props for thinning out your stain, you can always add, but hard to subtract. 150 is kind of a lot, but that is very good furniture. Emphasize that fact when selling; "very high quality". It kinda looked like Pecan wood, IDK. New, that was top shelf furniture.
Yep I was thinking pecan also. Very nice piece. Had a makers mark but not familiar with it. I have it listed for a high price..but it’s so pretty I think it’s worth holding out for!
I have a piece exactly like this, but it was purchased as a dresser and it’s got the highboy thing on the back with shelves in a mirror. I don’t think it’s going to sell and it’s pure form and I would love to paint it like you are.
I think it looks great. I’m 65 and a retired decorative painter. I started out doing hand painted furniture and it snowballed into doing faux finishes and murals in peoples homes. Certainly a fabulous antique shouldn’t be painted in my opinion- if it ain’t broke , don’t fix it. But by the same token, some pieces really lend themselves to painting especially if they’re too distressed, gouged or in need of repair. They are still salvageable. Some pieces are just “Meh” and a pop of color literally makes them pop into a show stopping piece. Paint is not your enemy. I put it on my face in the form of makeup and believe me- I look so much better!😂 Jeep up what your doing. Early Americans and many European cultures have been painting furniture for ages- and it’s beautiful.❤
Well, I loved the rich Carmely color of the piece, and the burled wood detail around the drawers before the flip, and it was sad for me to watch that disappear.. that being said, I really like your choice in colors, although I think I would have gone with a slightly warmer shade for the body. I love the light gel stain you used on the drawers, but I didn't like the painted doors with the drawers. I think I may have liked them a little better in the same stain as the drawers. I loved that you reused the original handles, and left the extra ornamentation off on the top drawers, just using the knobs, it looks more sleek, but, I think I would have liked that to be done on the doors as well, so that there was a little more continuity.... Overall, although I had a few disagreements with design choices, the piece turned out beautifully!
So modern looking love this . What sand grid do you use in between coats of top coat .. I haven’t used a sprayer yet . Also I live in a cold weather state and have no choice to do my work indoors . I often. Worry about what to use on a piece of furniture that bleeds that fumes aren’t so strong . Thanks again great re -do absolutely love these colors alot
Oh how I wish you were available!! I have hutch, chairs and table that need love. They are a dark oak and the table top finish has gone soft. I can probably buy new pieces as I am sure cost to refinish, paint, would be more than new pieces. Your work is lovely. Do you have to use a hazardous waste dump for the stripped varnish, paint brushes etc.? Just curious. Again, love the work you do.
this turned out so beautifully, and thank you for sharing your inspiration!! what a lovely piece! and to all the knackers out there dis'g painted furniture, hope they're asking themselves what THEY did today to starve a landfill. yeah, everyone's a critic, but enough already. wonderful channel--keep it coming, kara! 💗
Beautiful. When you do the vinegar bath, do you mix vinegar with water and if so how many part of water and how many part of vinegar? Thanks in advance
Love it!! ❤ I have a large, MCM Sewing Machine Cabinet - looks like a Sideboard when closed up, with 4 drawers and a large door with brass keyhole and original key. It needs lota love. I wanna paint it and put brass caps on the legs, but my family says no, keep it in that orange-y stain, hmm 🤔 ?¿?¿?
I have a dining room table that needs the top to be refinished. I sanded the top to bare wood. Do I have to do the same with the legs? Or can I just touch up the scuffs with the stain? The plan is to stain the piece to original color a dark Jacobean.
I really enjoy watching you redo furniture. it is something that i have always wanted to try but am still a bit nervous. do you mind sharing a couple of things? First, how big of an air compressor do you need to use your sprayer? my husband has this gigantic one but it is in his garage in the corner. I think i might want to find something for myself that i can move around. also, can you share your fb marketplace link? I would love to follow you on there. Thanks so much for sharing and inspiring... Donna
I guess I could be called a traditionalist. I'm not a fan of dual colored furniture. One for all or not at all. I'd like to see the drawers the same color as the buffet top and sides. Or maybe the buffet top and sides matching the drawers. You put a lot of hard work into this project and it's clear you are experienced. I applaud your vision. Someone will love this item in their dining room.
I personally have no issue what so ever painting furniture. I restrict it to out dated or ugly damaged pieces myself. The finishes are to many to mention. Often its up cycling and saving furniture from land fill. This tired old thing you have just literally saved is another beautiful example.

Love this transformation..Country Chic paint is fabulous

I agree. They act like "wood" is sacred. A lot of times the wood in question is very cheap grade and looks way more elegant when panted.
Love the transformations and the painted surfaces, I have both in my home as well.

Check your caps lock button, dear.
The folks on these DIY sites amaze me. I could never see through houses and furniture pieces and see treasures.
Love this piece. Just the right balance of painted and stained surface.
It's beautiful, and stylish. Great job!
Thank you so much!
Great transformation. You always do such a wonderful job bringing each piece back to life!
Thank you so much! I appreciate you tuning in! Hope to see you next time!
Spoiler alert😂❤
Loved all of it. Gorgeous. You retained the character and even gave it more, I think. Well done!
Amen
Love it. Love it . Love the look of " wash " .
You breathed new life into that old piece of furniture! It turned out so beautiful! Keep doing what you do. You can't please everyone.

Wow!! A whole set of this beautiful furniture! Amazing! Yes! It does have the White stamp on the inside! Thanks for sharing!
I like it. I might have done the drawers in the same finish as the rest of the piece but it looks really nice as a final product.
Beautifully done, but I agree, would like it better with the drawers done in the same color.

When you take the handles/hardware off on furniture, do you take the hinges off too?
This project turned out really well! If I had room in my home and my budget, I would have tried to buy it. Oh well.

Hi, what’s in the vinegar bath? Have you got a video on this process? Cheers
Just vinegar. Cook on low for about an hour with the hardware and then scrape off the junk! Thanks for watching!
@@LemonstoLemonadeFurniture Hey, thanks for the reply 😊

Could someone please tell me what type of wood/stain this was before it was refinished?
What is your simple green cleaner you used
Just simple green from Amazon undiluted so the container goes a long way. I should have it linked in comments
