    My theory: she became egg-bound and hemorrhaged when she finally passed them.Maybe she had an abscess, a cyst, or perhaps the eggs were too large and when she managed to pass them she unfortunately couldn't stop the bleeding. The prob is us keepers are finding out the hard way about these issues and have to figure this out ourselves first-hand. Maybe do a necropsy if you can? Either way if you figure it out then please keep us updated and fingers crossed this doesn't happen again

    First of all, I am so sorry for your loss and I do believe that I know why this happened, and for the people who are saying it was the maggots, no it isn't the maggots, maggots are just a byproduct of decomposition they were probably in there after the spider died or right about as the spider was about to die. It is highly likely that as the tarantula layed the phantom egg sac the phantom egg sac was too large for the tarantula's abdomen and wounded it's abdomen. For vertebrates this wouldn't be a problem, but tarantulas are spiders (invertebrates) meaning that they are insects and are unique since they have hemocyanin (a copper compound) instead of hemoglobin and lack the factors that are needed for blood clotting, therefore a single wound can be deadly for a tarantula since they can bleed out because of a single wound and I believe that is what happened. Tarantula blood turns pale blue when it meets oxygen therefore the red stuff isn't actually tarantula blood but is actually the digestive track of the tarantula.
    So to recap, the tarantula layed the phantom egg sac and her abdomen got damaged during it, she died of blood loss and a few flies that were small enough went into the enclosure and layed eggs on the decaying egg sack and tarantula causing those maggots.
    Hope this helps.

    Rest in peace. Maybe the eggs started rotting, attracting flys who laid their eggs on the tarantulas eggs. It also looks like the moisture in her cave was building up, maybe that has something to do with it ....

  • @The-Wolf-Knight
    @The-Wolf-Knight ปีที่แล้ว +95

    If I had to guess she laid eggs and those eggs started to rot and decay which the smell of it probably attracted a parasitic fly of some sort and it then laid eggs on her and those eggs borrowed into her and the larva bursted out as a result...... I say keep one or two of those larva and wait till they reach adulthood to see exactly what they are just to be sure
    Edit: that is what I usually did when I was into bug collecting as a kid... When one of my insects died for no reason what so ever because their enclosure where perfect for them and I see larva in there when there should be none I take a few of those larva and feed them in a separate enclosure and wait till they grow up to see what they exactly are and how to stop them in the future for harming any more of my insects

  • @Dogtroll

    Spiders have blue blood as their blood is based around copper instead of iron like mammals do. So that red stuff is not the spiders blood.
    In any case you will have to strip down that enclosure and clean it out. So you will have more clues then. I know the frustration that comes with having pets die despite your best efforts. Animals don’t read textbooks and always surprise you even though you think you’ve done everything. My best guess is that the phantom egg sac took too much out of her. Sorry for your loss mate. ❤
