Artimus Pyle keeps the beat throughout the entire song. He is a great drummer, but sometimes overlooked because everybody in the band was so damn good.

The fact their live performance is almost if not as good as studio version is a testament to their skill.

True but the audio quality detracts from this particular performance. I wish it was better for them.

In my opinion this is better than the studio in some ways. The energy is sky high. It’s awesome.

@@therealxunil2 Agreed with your take on the ENERGY. If that crowd could have been hooked up to a storage battery, Oakland would STILL be using the amperage to power the city lights! You know what's about to happen once you see that brunette gal who's wearing aviator sun glasses start clapping her hands over her head. Oh yeah, and when you see the roll of toilet paper get thrown in the crowd. Those hippie chicks are now grandmas! That'll really put things in perspective, eh?!

GOATS...Legends of rock and guitars..❤️ Sadly their plane crashed killing the lead singer and some back up singers and disabling several band members.😒

      @stevedahlberg8680 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I was a huge fan and I was in 9th grade when the plane crash happened. My girlfriend and I were so into them along with several other bands of course. But the news of it was simply devastating. Everyone felt so crushed. Back then people consumed movies or at least knew movies when they came out at Movie theaters. Also drive-ins. Before the movie gets going, they didn't have all the ads like they do today but simply a little cartoon animation to push you to go to the concession stand and buy some popcorn and hot dogs and soda, but they did usually have several previews of coming attractions just like today. There is a while after the plane crash, they managed to put together quickly about an eight or nine minute or maybe it was 12 minutes short documentary about the band and the plane crash and then I think it concluded with a live version of Freebird or something or at least parts of it. And they would play that in the movie theaters across the country instead of previews of coming attractions. That's how big of an impact it had on an awful lot of us.
It was so sad. The band was done. There have been various incarnations of the band after that with few to none of the original members and it's not the real Lynyrd Skynyrd by any stretch. I guess it's good that they do it but it's really nothing more than just a tribute band. Luckily, Lynyrd Skynyrd left us with a huge catalog to enjoy and be impressed by. And they influenced countless other bands.

@@stevedahlberg8680 Sadly, besides Ronnie, the lead singer and one of the other lead guitarists, Steven Gaines and his sister Cassie Gaines were killed. Others that died were the assistant band manager, the pilot and co-pilot.
Artimus Pyle, the drummer was seriously injured, but survived a long with many other band members and entourage.

    If I leave here tomorrow
    Would you still remember me?
For I must be traveling on now
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see
But if I stay here with you, girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
    Oh, oh, oh, oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird, you cannot change
    Lord knows, I can't change
Bye-bye baby, it's been sweet love, yeah, yeah
Though this feelin' I can't change
But please don't take it so badly
'Cause Lord knows, I'm to blame
But if I stay here with you, girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
    Oh, oh, oh, oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird, you cannot change
    Lord knows, I can't change
Lord help me, I can't change
    Lord, I can't change
Won't you fly high, free bird, yeah
    Thanks guys

Did you see that final clip in the video? Back in the days when you could pass a joints back and forth in the audience, laugh.
The other thing so striking about this old footage, and I grew up during this period and went to a lot of concerts and played in bands and stuff, is that you don't see any cell phones amongst all that insanely huge crowd of people. Nothing, that one lady was clutching a wallet or something. That's it. They didn't exist yet and they wouldn't exist for so many more years after this. People were less distracted at shows. On the other hand, there isn't a ton of footage floating around like there is of anything notable nowadays because we have our cameras with us everywhere we go. Totally different time back then. But boy did they know how to rock. And they also have some really powerful ballads as well. You should listen to some of their Studio cuts. They have several albums and tons and tons of hits. The musicianship is just out of this world but they were also innovators and creative.
They Call Me The Breeze is another rowdy fan favorite. The studio version is awesome but I'm sure there are some great live versions out there as well.
