      I’ve always wore some vintage for the last 40 years since I was a teen. My friends were dressing punk rock and I was dressing 50’s housewife at 18. I still love vintage clothes and now have a vintage trailer from the 50’s

    That is a stunning skirt. I would pay a lot of money for it. All it’s missing is large pockets!

    • @Fairgard
      @Fairgard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I've done a video on inserting large pockets into it!!!! It was a momentary lapse in judgement but I did remember eventually

    I absolutely LOVE this skirt! The fabric! The pleats! The waistband! Ugh so pretty. A little tip, use 2 buttons for a thick waistband and sew your button holes vertically. Great job 👍 I will subside.

    I did one year of embroidery every day for about eight hours a day during lockdown...1 year... and I loved it and it was very relaxing but I gave my hand tendinitis. Now I’m learning to sew, I do like hand stitching but it does cause me pain.

    My cat likes to help me with my sewing projects as well, but once she claims the ironing board, anything I leave on the ironing board is now hers, and she'll not give them up without a fight.

    • @Fairgard
      @Fairgard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This sounds familiar 😂

    • @honigmaus5568
      @honigmaus5568 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same here. The ironing board is her favorite spot and anyone disturbing her highness will get the paw XD She also claims the fabric and likes to destroy the patterns (it's obviously the greatest paper to rip apart)

    • @Fairgard
      @Fairgard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@honigmaus5568 I find if I put a tea towel folded in half on the table next to the fabric, he will sit on that instead because it's a square and more appealing to him. Try it, it's saved many white projects from black cat fur

  • @SweetChaos01

    You're clearly not a failure, you're brilliant! Look at this amazing skirt that you were able to sew with no pattern! You really shouldn't say things about yourself like "because I'm not smart" or the like. I know people often just say things off-hand, just joking around, but you really have such an amazing talent that other people would love to have and are obviously very smart! I've spent years working to overcome negative self talk, so I always notice it! Anyway, lovely skirt and creative problem solving with the gap at the top. It looks really good on you. Keep it up!

  • @TheAgeofFabulous
    @TheAgeofFabulous 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the skirt!!! Totes gorge and your solution with bar and hook is what I would’ve suggested to get the fitted. I agree with the button hole stitch being a satisfying stitch - when I do embroidery, I get really chuffed when they call for a French knot, those are my favorite.

    Your skirt came out beautifully! But please don't put yourself down when you make mistakes!! Seeing you call yourself brainless was kinda sad for me, because I actually really like and appreciate when youtubers show their mistakes and how they problem-solve. It makes me feel like I'm not alone when I screw up sewing! And it can be really useful when/if I encounter the same problem to recall what other people did to fix it!! Anyway, please be kind to yourself!!

    It occurs to me that the waist band would have puckered/pulled less if you put two buttons on the band itself. Had I been the one to make this skirt I would have just put a safety pin through the button hole either side of the button once it is sitting correctly. That or make the waist band button a fake one and just use hook and eye closures there.
    You did well with this skirt though. It looks really pretty.

      Tips for bulki fabric:
      -Iron, Iron, Iron.
      -Use a jeans needle. They are thougher and perce easier the tissus.
      -Go more slowly, your machine is hard working.
      -Cut on layiers where you can.
      -Use a longuer stiches.
      -Look on tour machine guide witch thickness she can take.

      The horizontal buttonholes work better for big buttons. The trick is to align the shaft of the button not with the center of the buttonhole but with the end closest to the edge of the skirt. And a skirt hook-and-bar is better for the waistband.
      Your skirt looks gorgeous nonetheless!

    you probably won't see this, but I have about the same sewing machine as you and mine hates me? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, but the thread keeps bunching up and then it blocks and never sews more than a few stitches... do you have any tips? (for now I'm just handsewing everything, which I love, but it is a lot more work)
